3. mind this arti W cle sent to me years ago seems most appropriate Our church was saddened to learn this week of the death of one of our most valued members Someone Else Someone s passing creates a vacancy that will be difficult to fill Else has been with us for many years and for every one of those years Someone did far more than a normal person s share of the work Whenever there was a job to do a class to teach or a meeting to attend one name was on everyone s list Let Someone Else do it Whenever leadership was mentioned this wonderful person was looked to for inspiration as well as results Someone Else can work with that group It was common knowledge that Someone Else was among the most liberal givers in our church Whenever there was a financial need everyone just assumed Someone Else would make up the difference Someone Else was a wonderful per son Sometimes appearing superhuman Were the truth known everybody expected too much of Some one Else Now Someone Else is gone We wonder what we are going to do Someone Else left a wonder ful example to follow but who is going to follow it Who is going to do the things Someone Else did When you are asked to help this year remember we can t depend on Someone Else anymore Anonymous In your prayers please remember the sick and deceased of our parish family All parishioners are invited to join in a celebration for Father Cedric Wilso

Website www nativityburke org Twenty Third Sunday in Ordinary Time September 8 2013 Dear Friends Last week Father Bill shared the following story with the staff I was so moved I asked him to share it with you in this week s column It showed me the power of collective prayer and that each one of us CAN make a difference in life OOO K K K K K K EK KE EK K K K E K K K K K EK EK K K EK EK K K K EK EK K K K EK K K K K K K K K K K K K K K K K K K KK K K KK K K K K K K A story familiar to most Christians Jesus walking on the water is found in the Gospel of Matthew Chapter 14 Recall that in spite of the frightening storm conditions Peter said Lord if it is you tell me to come to you on the water The story focuses on Peter stepping out bravely on the water then losing his faith and beginning to sink Jesus says to him Oh you of little faith My friend Harry is an Orthodox Deacon a fellow Chaplain in the Fairfax Fire and Rescue Department and an EMT volunteer and recently shared a part of his homily on this Gospel story He asked the congregation to think for just a moment about the other Eleven in the boat They cowered in fear during this experience and did nothing to help not even reaching out to save Peter as he began to sink And then Deacon Harry shared this true story This happened at a Protestant Church here in the Burke West Springfield District on a Sunday morning in the past month A member of the choir t
