184. ugh cleaning If you encounter a problem in operating your shotgun tight action when working the forearm firstly clean it thoroughly to see whether this solves the problem before requesting assistance from the Winchester firearms service centre closest to you our Winchester service facility or a qualified gunsmith 1 Putthe safety catch in the on position Open the action and inspect the chamber and the magazine to make sure that there are no shells in them Keep the muzzle pointing in a safe direction 2 Remove the barrel as explained in the Dismantling paragraph 3 Inspect the bore at both ends for any lead and plastic residue that may often remain in barrel bores and which comes from the wads used in modern shells Lead and plastic residue appears in the form of lengthways streaks and is usually more predominant close to the muzzle and just in front of the chamber A normal quantity of either of these two types of residue is normal and not serious in itself 4 If you think that there is too much lead or plastic residue it can be removed by brushing the bore with a brass brush First soak the brush or spray the bore with powder solvent Brush until clean To avoid any bristles being torn off push the brush right through the barrel every time before pulling it back 5 When all the lead and plastic residue has been removed pass a piece of clean dry patch of flannel through the bore Follow this with a final piece of lightly o

189. y without damaging the hole 7 Once the pin has been removed lift the trigger group out of the receiver by lifting it upwards and pulling it backwards Figure 13 REMOVING THE BOLT ASSEMBLY 1 Remove the barrel and the trigger group as explained above but do not replace the magazine cap 2 With the bolt assembly attached to the slide arm slide both units forwards and take them out from the front of the receiver Note that you may feel a slight resistance when the bolt assembly passes the ejection port This is caused by the ejector spring If you feel any resistance work the unit past with the greatest care REMOVING THE FIRING PIN 1 Remove the bolt assembly from the gun as explained above 2 Turn the bolt assembly over flat side on top and push the back of the firing pin forwards with your forefinger Holding the firing pin in this position lift the front of the slide arm up with your other hand and move it slightly forwards 3 Raise the slide arm to disengage the curved tongue on the slide arm from the groove in the firing pin This will detach the slide arm from the bolt assembly 4 The firing pin is held under pressure by a spring it will jump out of the bolt assembly when released by your forefinger Pay attention to the pin when removing the firing pin and spring As far as cleaning is concerned no further dismantling operation is either recommended or necessary Do not dismantle your SXP beyond the point shown in the ill
