FIG 4 2 HEAD ALIGNMENT TEST Detailed Operation 4 4 DC5 User s Manual 4 2 9 Clean printhead This routine cleans the printhead If the transfer of the ribbon has degraded then this cleaning procedure will clean the printhead automatically Also the printhead is periodically cleaned while printing Do not use this cleaning routine too often as it can prematurely wear down the printhead surface This procedure cleans any build up from the heat resistant layer which is coated on the backside of the ribbon Press the Clean head button to start the cleaning procedure 4 2 10 Dot Overlap The dot overlap paramter is used to activate or deactivate the dot overlap When the DC5 sx prints the next pass of an image the last dot on the edge of the previous pass is reprinted Dot overlap can be set to on half or off It is advised to set dot overlap to ON When printing with a mask see 6 3 6 set it to HALF If this parameter is set to off then small gaps between printing bands may appear Press the dot overlap button then set it off half or on Press to confirm or to cancel 4 2 11 Color offset The color offset sub menu is used to set the color offset feature While printing the DC5 sx shifts each color plane 8 dots standard This is to blend the printed strips together more gradually The figure below

7. x to accept an instruction or a change in current selected parameter to initiate an internal test gt Status line E The bottom line gives extra information on the way the printer is connected to the computer If it is connected through the Ethernet connection then the IP address is shown When the printer is online pressing in the region of the status line is a shortcut to the communication menu When in menu mode the status line shows which menu the machine is in Basic Operation 2 2 DC5 User s Manual 2 1 2 Settings The Settings button gives access to the main menu Pressing this button will cause the cutter to go offline and suspend all operations in progress The main menu contains all parameter settings submenus and access to tests and calibration routines The chosen tool will influence the displayed settings Parameter Settings are recognized by the name of the parameter and the value Press the parameter to change the value Density 12000 Sub menus are recognized by the group name followed by three points Submenus group certain parameters Access to some of the submenus will be determined by plotting language or tool type Printer Menu Tests amp calibrations routines are recognized by the name of the test followed by a small start button These offer access to the different internal tests and calibration routines The calibration routines are used to adjust and fine tune the cutter for the chose
8. 1 1 Unpacking the DC5 sx NOTE Save the shipping box and any other packaging items in case the printer needs to be shipped Do not ship the printer without first completely repacking it in its original packaging A document explaining how to repackage it is available A WARNING For safety reasons no fewer than two people should be involved in unpacking the printer Before unpacking make sure to have at least 4 meter of space at one side of the box because the printer will be rolled down a ramp Remove the straps and open the flaps of the box take out the 4 foam blocks Then remove the box from the pallet this must be done in a room that is at least 2 5 meter high Remove the protective bag then cut all the straps and cable ties Next set aside the accessories box FIG 1 1 DC5 sx ON SHIPPING PALLET Setup 1 1 DC5 User s Manual The printer is secured to the base at each side with a bracket Remove the 4 nuts 17 mm located at each side Next lift the brackets up and out by pulling the bottom part backwards under the DC5 sx and then remove them FIG 1 2 UNPACKING DC5 sx STAGE 2 Remove the two foam blocks from underneath the stand Do this using the two ramps which are screwed to the pallet Slide the ramp under the stand closest to the end with the foam suspension blocks A Lift the DC5 sx from each side just high enough so the foam blocks can be pulled out from underneath the DC5 sx

If it is not loaded straight it will align it automatically unless OptiTrac is set to white background FIG 1 14 LOADING ROLL AT THE FRONT OF THE DC5 sx The pinch rollers will now come down and the media is properly loaded The machine will remain paused until the front cover is closed After closing the front cover the DC5 sx will measure the media width If the media width has changed then the printer will prompt the user to check if the right pinch roller is set correct Setup 1 17 DC5 User s Manual 1 6 2 Using media take up rollers The DC5 sx is equipped with an automatic motorized roll take up system The take up rollers are only active if the DC5 sx is printing If a printed image is to be contour cut the take up rollers MUST be disabled To use the take up rollers follow procedure below Using an empty media core insert media core holders into each end and attach a piece of scrap vinyl to the core with adhesive tape minimum 1 meter long Place this core and vinyl on the DC5 sx as shown in the picture FIG 1 15 PREPARING TAKE UP ROLL Attach the scrap media to the edge of the vinyl Allow for some slack so the DC5 sx can align and park the media if necessary If the take up rollers are enabled and if the DC5 sx is printing then the media will be rolled up FIG 1 16 USING THE TAKE UP ROLL Setup 1 18 DC5 User s Manual 1 6 3 Unloading the media First detach the media from the take

The drivers were successfully installed on this computer If a device came with pour software you can now connect it to this computer If your device came with instructions please read them first Driver Name Status yV Summa SUMMADC3 U Ready to use y Summa SUMMAUSB U Ready to use Bac Cancel FIG 6 2 USB DRIVERS INSTALLATION Software 6 2 DC5 User s Manual 6 1 2 Installing printer tools Following useful tools can be installed with this program 1 Plug in for CorelDraw from version 12 on and Adobe lllustrator from version CS on for WinPlot and Color Control The plug in for Corel install an extra toolbar Clicking on an icon in this toolbar automatically exports the current drawing into the program indicated in the toolbar The plug in for Illustrator creates an extra menu under the file menu called summa From there the current design can be exported into Color Control or WinPlot 2 Palette for spot color definitions in CorelDraw from revision 10 on and Adobe Illustrator from version 10 on The palette includes also two special colors CONTOUR and FLEXCUT With these spot colors the print and cut data can be separated All objects in the design which have as color CONTOUR or FLEXCUT will not be printed by Color Control but cut out after first printing the other data 3 ICC profiles The use of ICC profiles is explained in a separate document that can be found on the i
