18. 1884 sales industrial purification co uk www industrial purification co uk Filter Operation When the control system is powered up the inlet and outlet valves V1 and V2 are open and the backwash drain and backwash inlet V3 and V4 are closed The filter is now on line for filtration The process water is delivered into VALVE 1 via a system pump or specific filter mounted pump the water feed is split so that flow goes via both the tangential inlet and the vortex stabiliser The water is filtered by the media and exits the system via VALVE 2 and on to process the manual valve on the outlet controls the filter throughput The filter continues on line filtration until such time as backwash is initiated this is generally by means of a pressure differential switch supplied as part of the control panel a timer adjustable within the system software or via an optional manual backwash push button optional extra Once backwash is triggered by either of the above Valve 1 and Valve 2 close the filter is no longer producing any process water and this will remain so until the backwash cycle is complete On multiple filter system process flow is maintained during the backwash cycle The media bed is allowed to settle this is called the dwell time and last around 1 1 5 minutes This is to allow the media suspended above the bed to settle out before commencing the backwash After the media has settled the backwash sequence begins Valves 3 op
