1. 1 Twist the bottom of the pen to expose the ink cartridge 2 Insert the ink end of the pen into the removal tool on the refill cartridge and peu the cartridge out as shown Note The pen refill can be reordered by contacting the AT Cross Consumer Relations Department at 1 800 510 9660 The part number for the fine point black ink refill is 8669M2 The part number for the broad point black ink refill is 8671M2 Pen Refill To insert a new ink cartridge insert the ink end of the pen into the pen as shown A 0 le ED CO lt lt m groove Parameter Bar Codes The following bar code parameter menus can be used to pro gram the scanner Clear Bar Codes The following bar code clears the bar code data collected and currently stored in the pen Clear Bar Codes Set Defaults This parameter resets the pen to the default values for all parameters Set Defaults Good Decode LED On Time This is the duration the Green LED remains on following a good decode 25sec 5 sec 75 sec default 1 0 sec Volume This parameter is used to change the beeper volume on the pen Alternatively beeper volume can be changed by double clicking the scan button on the pen Quiet Off Low Volume Medium Volume High Volume default Continuous Scan Enable Disable When enabled this parameter allows you to scan multiple bar codes with one press and hold of the scan button When disabled

6. e memory is full and you must either upload your data to the PC or clear the pen s memory before any further bar code data can be collected Inserting the CyberPen in the Cyberwell In order for the CyberPen to upload the collected bar code data to the PC the pen must be properly inserted in the Cyberwell as illustrated Uploading Bar Code Data To upload the collected bar code data to the PC 1 Ensure the PC program is ready to receive data 2 Press the scan button once and immediately insert the pen into the Cyberwell The pen beeps once to indicate a connection has been made with the PC and then stored bar codes can be transferred to your PC How that transfer takes place is application dependent Do not remove the pen from the Cyberwell until the upload is complete If the pen is removed from the well during the upload or if an error occurs during upload three beeps sound to indicate interrupted communication If this occurs ensure the PC is ready to receive data press the scan button once and reinsert the pen in the well to start the upload again Writing with the CyberPen To use the writing instrument hold the tip writing end of the pen and twist the body until the full pen tip is exposed FP T pO J Pen Refill Removal and Insertion The pen refill cartridge comes equipped with a removal tool There is a groove in the removal tool to grab the refill and pull it out To remove the ink cartridge
7. ents pending rev 4 99 Warranty The CyberPen is warranteed against defects in workmanship and materials for a period of 90 days from purchase date provided the pen remains unmodified and is used under normal and proper conditions This warranty is limited to repair or replacement at Symbol s option with rea sonable promptness after being returned to Symbol by a carrier selected and paid for by the cus tomer These provisions do not prolong the original warranty term for any Symbol product which has been repaired or replaced by Symbol This warranty applies to the original owner and does not extend to any product which has been subject to misuse neglect accidental damage unau thorized repair or tampering Preventive maintenance activities are not covered by warranty Welcome to CyberPen Congratulations on your purchase of the CyberPen the most innovative portable data collection device on the market The CyberPen combines the best in superior writing instru ments with the best in easy to use lightweight bar code read ing devices Getting Started with the CyberPen Before you can start using your CyberPen you must first perform some basic set up procedures Unpacking the CyberPen Your CyberPen package should contain the following items e The CyberPen e The Cyberwell e Three silver oxide batteries If any of these pieces are missing please contact your sales representative Service Before you use your pen follo
8. the scan button must be pressed each time to ini tiate a scan Continuous Scan Enabled default Continuous Scan Disabled Regulatory Information This device has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device pursuant to Part 15 of the Federal Communications Commissions Rules and Regulation These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference when the equipment is operated in a commercial environment This equipment generates uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and if not installed and used in accordance with the instruction manual may cause harmful interference to radio communications Operation of this equipment in a residential area is likely to cause harmful interference in which case the user will be required to correct the interference at his own expense However there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation If the equipment does cause harmful interference to radio or television reception which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures Re orient or relocate the receiving antenna e Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver e Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that which the receiver is connected Consult the dealer or an experienced radio TV technician for
9. w the complete procedures for set up If you encounter a problem using your CyberPen with your application system please contact your primary System Application provider first If you believe your Cyber Pen is not functioning properly contact Symbol Technolo gies Inc Customer Support Center at 1 800 653 5350 Batteries The life of the CyberPen s batteries depends strongly on the environment and method in which the pen is used The CyberPen ships with three Rayovac 675G Other batteries approved for use in the CyberPen are the Energizer EPX76 and Panasonic SP76 The use of batteries other than these listed is not recommended Note The CyberPen emits three short beeps to indicate a low battery condition When you hear these three beeps replace the batteries as soon as possible Replacement batteries may be ordered by calling the Radio Shack Fulfillment Center at 1 800 THE SHAC 1 800 843 7422 Inserting Batteries into the CyberPen Before using the CyberPen you must first insert the three sil ver oxide batteries into the pen 1 Holding the clip end of the pen twist the pen end of the pen counterclockwise and separate it from the clip end of the pen a e 2 Insert the batteries one at a time with the positive end up into the clip end of the pen GGO 3 Twist the bottom of the pen back on clockwise Setting Up the Cyberwell Setting up the Cyberwell requires connecting the Cyber
10. well cable to the serial port on the back of your PC 1 Insert the Cyberwell cable into the the COM1 port on the back of your PC If the COM1 port is in use use the COM2 port 2 Tighten the connector s screws to ensure proper con nection Adjusting the Beeper Volume The CyberPen s beeper has four volume levels High Medium Low and Off To change the beeper volume press the scan button twice quickly Upon pressing the scan button twice you should hear a sample of the newly selected vol ume Scanning with the CyberPen Now that your set up is complete you re ready to scan bar codes 1 Hold the pen at an angle as shown in the diagram below with the clear tip facing the bar code to be scanned 2 Depress and hold the scan button 3 Place the scanner tip in the white space on either side of the bar code 4 With the button still depressed move the scanner quickly and smoothly over the bar code from start to finish ending in the white space on the other side of the bar code The motion should be similar to striking a match A successful read of the bar code is indicated by an audible beep and a green LED If you do not hear a beep try scan ning again using a different speed or following a different path through the bar code When the pen is within 10 of being completely full of data the decode beep sounds longer When the pen is com pletely full of data three long beeps sound to let you know th
