1. y as RIGHT SIDE Cushioned Walking Platform for maximum exercise comfort No water bottle is included ASSEMBLY To hire an authorized service technician to assemble the treadmill call toll free 1 800 445 2480 Assembly requires two persons Set the treadmill in a cleared area and remove all packing materials Do not dispose of the packing materials until assembly is completed Note The underside of the treadmill walking belt is coated with high performance lubricant During shipping a small amount of lubricant may be transferred to the top of the walking belt or the shipping carton This is a normal condition and does not affect treadmill perfor mance lf there is lubricant on top of the walking belt simply wipe off the lubricant with a soft cloth and a mild non abrasive cleaner Assembly requires the included hex key and your own Phillips screwdriver 3 Use the drawings below to identify the hardware used during assembly Note If a part is not in the parts bag check to see if it has been preattached to one of the parts to be assembled To avoid damaging plastic parts do not use power tools for assembly 3 4 Screw 23 1 Tek Screw 77 4 1 1 4 Tek Screw 49 Cover Screw 52 4 Oh amm mung Pulse Bar Star Endcap Screw Silver Pulse Bar Console Screw 67 3 8 Star ES 79 2 Screw 64 4 Washer 8 4 Washer 65 4 79 64 2 3 4 Upright Bolt 85 2 i 2 1 1
2. 2 Move your right hand to the position shown and hold the treadmill firmly Using your left hand pull the latch knob to the left and hold it Raise the frame until the latch pin is aligned with the hole in the center of the cushion Slowly re lease the latch knob Make sure that the latch pin is fully inserted in the hole in the center of the cushion To protect the floor or carpet from damage place a mat under the treadmill Keep the treadmill out of direct sun light Do not leave the treadmill in the storage position in temperatures above 85 F 30 C HOW TO MOVE THE TREADMILL Before moving the treadmill convert the treadmill to the storage position as described above Make sure that the latch pin is fully inserted in the hole in the center of the cushion 1 Hold the upper ends of the handrails Place one foot against one of the wheels 2 Tilt the treadmill backward until it rolls freely on the front wheels Carefully move the treadmill to the desired location To reduce the risk of injury use extreme caution while moving the treadmill Do not move the treadmill over an uneven surface 3 Place one foot against one of the wheels and carefully lower the treadmill until it is resting in the storage position 19 HOW TO LOWER THE TREADMILL FOR USE 1 Hold the upper end of the treadmill with your right hand Pull the latch knob to the left and hold it Pivot the frame down ward until the
3. for kilome ters will appear in the Speed display Press the Quick Speed increase button to change the unit of measurement When the desired unit of measure ment is selected remove the key Note For sim plicity all instructions in this section refer to miles 14 To review specific information press the Display button repeatedly until the displays show the infor mation that you are most interested in viewing Measure your heart rate if desired Before using the handgrip pulse sensor remove the sheets of clear plastic from the metal contacts In addition make sure that your hands are clean To measure your heart rate stand on the foot rails and hold the metal contacts avoid moving your hands When your pulse is detected the Incline Pulse display will show one or two dashes and then your heart rate will be shown For the most accurate heart rate reading continue to hold the contacts for about 15 seconds Contacts Turn on the fan if desired The fan features low and high speed settings Press the fan button repeatedly to select a fan speed or to turn off the fan Note If the fan is on when the walking belt is stopped the fan will turn off automatically after a few minutes When you are finished exercising remove the key from the console Step onto the foot rails press the Stop button and adjust the incline of the treadmill to the lowest setting The incline must be at the lowest set

During the pro gram the profile SEZ will show your x progress The flashing segment of the profile rep resents the cur rent segment of the program The height of the flashing segment indicates the speed setting for the current segment At the end of each segment a se ries of tones will sound and the next segment of the profile will begin to flash If a different speed and in cline setting is programmed for the next segment the speed or incline setting will flash in the display to alert you Current Segment 17 The program will continue in this way until the last segment of the profile flashes in the Current Segment column and the last segment ends The walking belt will then slow to a stop If desired you can redefine the program while using it To change the speed or incline setting for the current segment simply press the Power Incline Quick Speed or numbered speed buttons When the current segment ends the new setting will be saved in memory To increase the length of the program first wait until the program is completed Then press the Start button and program speed and incline settings for as many additional segments as desired When you have added as many segments as desired press the Stop button twice To de crease the length of the program press the Stop button twice at any time before the program is com pleted To stop the program at any time press the Stop button The tim

IMPORTANT The console features a display demo mode designed to be used if the treadmill is dis played in a store If the displays light as soon as you plug in the power cord and switch the circuit breaker to the reset position the demo mode is turned on To turn off the demo mode hold down the Stop button for a few seconds If the displays remain lit see THE INFORMATION MODE on page 18 to turn off the demo mode Next stand on the foot rails of the treadmill Find the clip attached to the key see the drawing on page 12 and slide the clip onto the waistband of your clothes Then insert the key into the console After a moment the displays will light IMPORTANT In an emergency situation the key can be pulled from the console causing the walking belt to slow to a stop Test the clip by carefully taking a few steps backward if the key is not pulled from the console adjust the posi tion of the clip HOW TO USE THE MANUAL MODE 1 Insert the key into the console See HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER above 2 Select the manual mode When you insert the key the manual mode will be selected If you have se lected a pro gram reselect the manual mode by pressing a Programs button E a Pa a m Track repeatedly until a track appears in the center of the display Start the walking belt To start the walking belt press the Start button the Quick Speed in crease button or one of the spe

The matrix When the manual mode is selected the matrix will show a 1 4 mile track As you walk or run the indica tors around the track will light in succession until the entire track is lit The track will then disappear and the indicators will again begin to light in suc cession The Calories Distance display This display will show the approxi mate number of calories you have burned and the distance that you have walked or run during your workout The display will change from one measurement to the other every few seconds DISTANCE The Incline Pulse dis play This display will show the incline level of the treadmill and your heart rate when you use the handgrip pulse sen sor In L o Lah INCLINE The Time Pace display This display will show the elapsed time and your pace pace is measured in minutes per mile Note When a per sonal trainer quick program is selected the display will show the time remaining in the program in stead of the elapsed time The display will change from one measurement to the other every few sec onds The Speed display This display will show the speed of the walking belt in miles or kilometers per hour Note The console can display speed and dis tance in either miles or kilometers To determine which unit of measure ment is selected hold down the Stop button while inserting the key into the console An E for miles or an
8. gap between the Magnet and the Reed 11 ji Switch is about 1 8 in 3 mm If necessary loosen ni gt the Screw 11 move the Reed Switch slightly and then retighten the Screw Reattach the Hood and run Top the treadmill for a few minutes to check for a correct View speed reading PROBLEM The console displays remain lit when you remove the key from the console SOLUTION a The console features a display demo mode designed to be used if the treadmill is displayed in a store If the displays remain lit when you remove the key the demo mode is turned on To turn off the demo mode hold down the Stop button for a few seconds If the displays are still lit see THE INFORMATION MODE on page 18 to turn off the demo mode PROBLEM The walking belt slows when walked on SOLUTION a Use only a single outlet surge suppressor that meets all the specifications described on page 11 b If the walking belt is overtightened treadmill perfor mance may decrease and the walking belt may be come damaged Remove the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD Using the hex key turn both rear roller bolts counterclockwise 1 4 of a turn When the walking belt is properly tightened you should be able to lift each edge of the walking belt 2 to 3 in 5 to 8 cm above the walking platform Be careful to keep the walking belt centered Then plug in the power cord insert the key and run the treadmill for a few minutes Repeat until the walking belt is properl
9. minimum surge dissipation of 450 joules The surge suppressor must be electrically rated for 120 volts AC and 15 amps There must be a moni toring light on the surge suppressor to indicate whether it is functioning properly Failure to use a properly functioning surge suppressor could result in damage to the control system of the treadmill If the control system is damaged the walking belt may change speed accelerate or stop unexpect edly which may result in a fall and serious injury This product must be grounded If it should malfunc tion or break down grounding provides a path of least resistance for electric current reducing the risk of elec 11 tric shock This product is equipped with a cord having an equipment grounding conductor and a grounding plug Plug the power cord into a surge suppressor and plug the surge suppressor into an appropriate outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances Important The treadmill is not compatible with GFCI equipped outlets This product is for use on a nominal 120 volt circuit and has a grounding plug that looks like the plug illus trated in drawing 1 below A temporary adapter that looks like the adapter illustrated in drawing 2 may be used to connect the surge suppressor to a 2 pole receptacle as shown in drawing 2 if a properly grounded outlet is not available Grounded Outlet Box Grounded Outlet Grounding Plug Grounded O
10. segments that you have programmed will then be saved in memory When you are finished exercising remove the key from the console See step 8 on page 14 HOW TO USE YOUR OWN QUICK PROGRAM 1 Insert the key into the console See HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER on page 13 Select a custom quick programs To select a custom quick programs press one of the two Create Your Own Quick Programs buttons A few seconds after you select a custom quick pro gram the maximum incline setting and the maxi mum speed setting of the program will flash in the display for a few seconds The display will then show how long the program will last A profile of the speed settings of the program will scroll across the matrix If you press the button a second time the program will return to the manual mode Note If only three segments of the profile scroll across the matrix see HOW TO CREATE YOUR OWN QUICK PROGRAM on page 16 Press the Start button or the Quick Speed in crease button to start the program A moment after you press the button the treadmill will automatically adjust to the first speed and in cline settings that you programmed previously Hold the handrails and begin walking Each of the custom quick programs is divided into several one minute segments One speed setting and one incline setting are programmed for each segment Note The same speed setting and or in cline setting may be programmed for consecutive segments
11. 4 Bolt 63 4 1 Make sure that the power cord is unplugged With the help of a second person carefully tip the treadmill onto its left side as shown Partially fold the Frame 26 so that the treadmill is more stable Do not fully fold the Frame until the treadmill is completely assembled Identify the Right Upright 76 which has a RIGHT sticker Hold the Right Upright near the Base 81 Insert the Upright Wire 75 into the Right Upright until the Upright Wire is extending from the upper end of the Right Upright Note Make sure that the Upright Wire is extending from the side of the post as shown in the inset drawing Remove the tie from the Upright Wire Attach the Right Upright 76 to the Base 81 with a 2 3 4 Upright Bolt 85 a 1 Upright Bolt 84 and two 3 8 Star Washers 83 Do not tighten the Upright Bolts yet 2 Slide a Front Endcap 80 onto the Base 81 Partially tighten an Endcap Screw 79 into the Front Endcap and the Base Slide a Wheel Housing 86 onto the Base 81 Attach the Wheel Housing with a 1 Tek Screw 77 a Base Pad 89 and a 1 1 4 Tek Screw 49 as shown Attach an additional Base Pad 89 to the Base 81 with a 1 Tek Screw 77 3 With the help of a second person carefully tip the treadmill onto its right side as shown Partially fold the Frame 26 so the treadmill is more stable Do not fully fold the Frame until th

Screws 52 into the Left Handrail Cover and the Left Upright 70 be careful not to overtighten the Cover Screws Attach the Right Handrail Cover 74 in the same way 11 12 Lower the Uprights 70 76 as shown Start the two indicated Console Screws 67 into the Left and Right Uprights 70 76 and the con sole assembly If necessary pull back on the console assembly slightly to align the holes in the Uprights with those on the console assem bly Start the other two Console Screws be fore tightening all four Console Screws do not overtighten the Console Screws See the inset drawing Push the Uprights 70 76 sideways so that the treadmill Frame 26 is centered between the Uprights Firmly tighten the Upright Bolts 84 85 on each side of the treadmill With the help of a second person carefully raise the Left Upright 70 and the Right Upright 76 to a vertical position View From Above N A ba 13 Make sure that all parts are properly tightened before you use the treadmill If there are sheets of clear plastic on the treadmill decals remove the plastic To protect the floor or carpet place a mat under the tread mill Note Extra hardware may be included Keep the included hex key in a secure place the large hex key is used to adjust the walking belt see page 22 10 OPERATION AND ADJUSTMENT THE PRE LUBRICATED WALKING BELT Your treadmill features a wal
15. aker has tripped wait for five minutes and then press the switch back in b Make sure that the power cord is plugged in If the power cord is plugged in unplug it wait for five minutes and then plug it back in c Remove the key from the console Reinsert the key into the console d If the treadmill still will not run see the front cover of this manual PROBLEM The incline of the treadmill does not change correctly SOLUTION a With the key in the console press one of the Incline buttons While the incline is changing re move the key After a few seconds re insert the key The treadmill will automatically rise to the maximum incline level and then return to the minimum level This will recalibrate the incline system PROBLEM The display of the console does not function properly SOLUTION a Remove the key from the console and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD With the help of a second person carefully tip the Uprights 70 76 down as shown Remove the three Screws 11 and two 3 4 Screws 23 Note A Phillips screwdriver with a shaft at least 5 in 13 cm long is required 21 With the help of a second person carefully raise the Uprights 70 76 as shown Carefully pivot the Hood 28 off Locate the Reed Switch 39 and the Magnet 6 on the left side of the Pulley 7 Turn the Pulley until the Magnet is aligned with the Reed Switch Make sure 1 8 in that the

17. catch is past the latch pin Latch Pin 2 Hold the metal frame firmly with both hands and lower it to the floor CAUTION To decrease the possibility of injury do not lower the frame by gripping only the plastic foot rails Do not drop the frame to the floor Make sure to bend your legs and keep your back straight 20 TROUBLESHOOTING Most treadmill problems can be solved by following the steps below Find the symptom that applies and follow the steps listed If you need further assistance please see the front cover of this manual PROBLEM The power does not turn on SOLUTION a Make sure that the power cord is plugged into a surge suppressor and that the surge suppressor is plugged into a properly grounded outlet see page 11 Use only a single outlet surge suppres sor that meets all of the specifications described on page 11 Important The treadmill is not com patible with GFCI equipped outlets b After the power cord has been plugged in make sure that the key is inserted into the console c Check the reset off circuit breaker located on the treadmill frame near the power cord If the switch protrudes as shown the circuit breaker has tripped To reset the circuit breaker wait for five minutes and then press the switch back in Tripped PROBLEM The power turns off during use SOLUTION a Check the reset off circuit breaker see the drawing above If the circuit bre
18. console will display continuous exercise feedback You can even measure your heart rate using the built in handgrip pulse sensor In addition the console features twelve preset pro grams Each program automatically controls the speed and incline of the treadmill as it guides you through an effective workout You can even create your own cus 12 tom workout programs and save them in memory for future use To use the manual mode of the console follow the steps beginning on page 13 To use a personal trainer quick program follow the steps beginning on page 15 To create your own quick program see page 16 To use your own quick program see page 17 Note If there is a sheet of clear plastic on the face of the console remove the plastic To prevent dam age to the walking platform wear clean athletic shoes while using the treadmill The first time you use the treadmill observe the alignment of the walking belt and center the walking belt if neces sary see page 23 HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER IMPORTANT If the treadmill has been exposed to cold temperatures allow it to warm to room tem perature before turning on the power If you do not do this the console displays or other electrical components may become damaged Plug in the power cord see page 11 Next lo cate the reset off circuit breaker on the treadmill frame near the power cord Switch the circuit breaker to the reset po sition Reset S
19. ds Adjust the speed in small increments to avoid sudden jumps in speed The pulse sensor is not a medical device Various factors including the user s move ment may affect the accuracy of heart rate readings The pulse sensor is intended only as an exercise aid in determining heart rate trends in general 20 21 22 23 Never leave the treadmill unattended while it is running Always remove the key unplug the power cord and switch the reset off cir cuit breaker to the off position when the treadmill is not in use See the drawing on page 5 for the location of the circuit breaker Do not attempt to raise lower or move the treadmill until it is properly assembled See ASSEMBLY on page 6 and HOW TO FOLD AND MOVE THE TREADMILL on page 19 You must be able to safely lift 45 Ibs 20 kg to raise lower or move the treadmill When folding or moving the treadmill make sure that the storage latch is fully closed Never insert any object into any opening on the treadmill 24 25 26 Inspect and properly tighten all parts of the treadmill regularly DANGER Always unplug the power cord immediately after use before cleaning the treadmill and before performing the mainte nance and adjustment procedures described in this manual Never remove the motor hood un less instructed to do so by an authorized ser vice representative Servicing other than the procedures in this manual should be performed
20. e the flexibility of your muscles and will help prevent post exercise problems EXERCISE FREQUENCY To maintain or improve your condition complete three workouts each week with at least one day of rest be tween workouts After a few months you may com plete up to five workouts each week if desired The key to success is to make exercise a regular and enjoyable part of your everyday life SUGGESTED STRETCHES The correct form for several basic stretches is shown at the right Move slowly as you stretch never bounce 1 Toe Touch Stretch Stand with your knees bent slightly and slowly bend forward from your hips Allow your back and shoulders to relax as you reach down toward your toes as far as possible Hold for 15 counts then relax Repeat 3 times Stretches Hamstrings back of knees and back 2 Hamstring Stretch Sit with one leg extended Bring the sole of the opposite foot toward you and rest it against the inner thigh of your extended leg Reach toward your toes as far as possible Hold for 15 counts then relax Repeat 3 times for each leg Stretches Hamstrings lower back and groin 3 Calf Achilles Stretch With one leg in front of the other reach forward and place your hands against a wall Keep your back leg straight and your back foot flat on the floor Bend your front leg lean forward and move your hips toward the wall Hold for 15 counts then relax Repeat 3 times for each leg To cause further stretching of
21. e treadmill is completely assembled Hold the Left Upright 70 against the Base 81 Then thread a 2 3 4 Upright Bolt 85 and a 1 Upright Bolt 84 with 3 8 Star Washers 83 into the Base 81 and the bottom of the Left Upright Do not tighten the Upright Bolts yet 4 Slide a Front Endcap 80 onto the Base 81 Partially tighten an Endcap Screw 79 into the Front Endcap and the Base Slide a Wheel Housing 86 onto the Base 81 Attach the Wheel Housing with a 1 Tek Screw 77 a Base Pad 89 and a 1 1 4 Tek Screw 49 as shown Attach an additional Base Pad 89 to the Base 81 with a 1 Tek Screw 77 5 With the help of a second person carefully raise the Left Upright 70 and the Right Upright not shown to a vertical position Remove the knob from the pin Make sure that the collar and the spring are on the pin Note If there are two collars place one on each side of the spring Then insert the pin into the Latch Housing 71 and tighten the knob onto the pin See steps 2 and 4 Fully tighten the two Endcap Screws 79 6 Slide a Handrail 62 onto the post on the Left Upright 70 Finger tighten two 1 1 4 Bolts 63 into the Handrail and the post do not fully tighten the Bolts yet Attach the other Handrail 62 to the Right Upright 76 in the same way 7 Make sure that the Upright Wire 75 is posi tioned at the side of the post on the Rig
22. e will begin to flash in the display To restart the program press the Start button or the Speed increase button The walking belt will begin to move at 1 mph When the next segment of the program begins the treadmill will automatically ad just to the speed and incline settings for the next segment Follow your progress with the matrix and the displays See step 5 on page 13 Measure your heart rate if desired See step 6 on page 14 Turn on the fan if desired See step 7 on page 14 When you are finished exercising remove the key from the console See step 8 on page 14 THE INFORMATION MODE The console features an information mode that keeps track of the total number of miles that the walking belt has moved and the total number of hours that the treadmill has been operated The information mode also allows you to select miles or kilometers as the unit of measurement and to turn on and turn off the display demo mode To select the information mode hold down the Stop button while inserting the key into the console When the information mode is selected the following informa tion will be shown The Calories Distance dis play will show the total num ber of miles or kilometers that the walking belt has moved The Time Pace display will show the total number of hours that the treadmill has been used 18 An E for English miles or an for metric kilometers will appear in the Quick Speed dis

31. play Press the Speed in crease button to change the unit of measurement Note The console features a display demo mode de signed to be used if the treadmill is displayed in a store While the demo mode is turned on the console will function normally when you plug in the power cord switch the circuit breaker to the reset position and in sert the key into the console However when you re move the key the displays will remain lit although the buttons will not function If the demo mode is turned on a d will appear in the Pulse Incline display while the information mode is selected To turn on or turn off the demo mode press the Quick Speed decrease button To exit the information mode remove the key from the console HOW TO FOLD AND MOVE THE TREADMILL HOW TO FOLD THE TREADMILL FOR STORAGE Before folding the treadmill adjust the incline to the lowest position If you do not do this you may permanently damage the treadmill Next unplug the power cord CAUTION You must be able to safely lift 45 Ibs 20 kg to raise lower or move the treadmill 1 Hold the metal frame firmly in the location shown by the arrow at the right CAUTION To decrease the possibility of injury do not lift the frame by the plastic foot rails Make sure to bend your legs and keep your back straight As you raise the frame make sure to lift with your legs rather than with your back Raise the frame about halfway to the vertical position

33. speed and in cline settings for the program Hold the handrails and begin walking Each program is divided into 30 one minute seg ments One speed setting and one incline setting are programmed for each segment Note The same speed setting and or incline setting may be programmed for consecutive segments 15 During the program the profile will show your progress see the drawing above The flashing segment of the profile represents the current seg ment of the program The height of the flashing segment indicates the speed setting for the current segment At the end of each segment a series of tones will sound and the next segment of the profile will begin to flash If a different speed and incline setting is programmed for the next segment the speed or incline setting will flash in the display to alert you The program will continue in this way until the last segment of the profile flashes in the display and the last segment ends The walking belt will then slow to a stop If the speed or incline setting for the current seg ment is too high or too low you can manually over ride the setting by pressing the Power Incline Quick Speed or numbered speed buttons Every few times you press a Quick Speed button an ad ditional indicator will light or darken in the Current Segment column If any of the columns to the right of the Current Segment column have the same number of lit indicators as the Current Segment column an addi

35. t adjust the speed and incline of the tread mill until your heart rate is near the lowest number in your training zone For maximum fat burning adjust the speed and incline of the treadmill until your heart rate is near the middle number in your training zone Aerobic Exercise If your goal is to strengthen your cardiovascular sys tem your exercise must be aerobic Aerobic exercise is activity that requires large amounts of oxygen for prolonged periods of time This increases the demand on the heart to pump blood to the muscles and on the lungs to oxygenate the blood For aerobic exercise adjust the speed and incline of the treadmill until your heart rate is near the highest number in your training zone WORKOUT GUIDELINES Each workout should include the following three parts A Warm up Start each workout with 5 to 10 minutes of stretching and light exercise A proper warm up in creases your body temperature heart rate and circula tion in preparation for exercise Training Zone Exercise After warming up increase the intensity of your exercise until your heart rate is in your training zone for 20 to 60 minutes During the first few weeks of your exercise program do not keep your heart rate in your training zone for longer than 20 minutes Breathe regularly and deeply as you exer cise never hold your breath A Cool down Finish each workout with 5 to 10 min utes of stretching to cool down This will increas

40. y tight ened Rear Roller Bolts c If the walking belt still slows when walked on please see the front cover of this manual 22 PROBLEM The walking belt is off center or slips when walked on SOLUTION a If the walking belt is off center first remove the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD If the walking belt has shifted to the left use the hex key to turn the left rear roller bolt clockwise 1 2 of a turn if the walking belt has shifted to the right turn the left bolt counterclockwise 1 2 of a turn Be careful not to overtighten the walking belt Then plug in the power cord insert the key and run the treadmill for a few minutes Repeat until the walking belt is centered b If the walking belt slips when walked on first re move the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD Using the hex key turn both rear roller bolts clock wise 1 4 of a turn When the walking belt is correctly tightened you should be able to lift each edge of the walking belt 2 to 3 in 5 to 8 cm above the walking platform Be careful to keep the walking belt centered Then plug in the power cord insert the key and care fully walk on the treadmill for a few minutes Repeat until the walking belt is properly tightened 23 EXERCISE GUIDELINES AWARNING Before beginning this or any exercise program consult your physi cian This is especially important for individu als over the age of 35 or individuals with pre existing health problems The pu
