1. MEMORY TUNING MODE You can store a combination of up to 40 of your favorite AM FM radio stations as presets 1 Tune into the AM FM station that you want to store as a preset 2 MEMORY Press the MEMORY button The preset number flashes x V TUNING 4 4PRESET gt MEMORY x NI i ch ds 77 While the preset number is flash ing about 8 seconds use the PRESET lt 4 p buttons to select a preset from 1 through 40 Press the MEMORY button again to store the station or channel The station or channel is stored and the preset number stops flashing Repeat this procedure for all of your favorite AM FM radio stations E Selecting Presets 1 TUNING 4 4PRESET gt To select a preset use the PRE SET lt 4 p gt buttons or the remote controller s CH but ton E Deleting Presets 1 2 MEMORY TUNING MODE E Select the preset that you want to delete See the previous section While holding down the MEM ORY button press the TUNING MODE button The preset is deleted and its number disappears from the display 43 44 Listening to the Radio Continued Using RDS European Models Only RDS only works with European models and only in areas where RDS broadcasts are available When tuned into an RDS station

Using the Speaker Terminal Tool The supplied speaker terminal tool makes it easy to tighten and loosen the speaker terminals If you are using banana plugs to ensure optimum sound quality tighten the speaker terminal before inserting the banana plug In Europe using banana plugs to connect speakers to an audio amplifier is prohibited ye 5 cs i Connecting Your Speakers Continued Connecting Speaker Set A 7 Strip 5 8 15 mm of insu 5 8 15 mm lation from the ends of the FAT speaker cables and twist the bare wires tightly as shown 2 Unscrew the terminal Fully insert the bare wire making sure that it s touching the threaded shaft in the center Screw the terminal tight AY rd CES amp Connecting a Powered Subwoofer Using a suitable cable connect the AV receiver s SUB WOOFER PRE OUT to the input on your powered sub woofer If your subwoofer is unpowered and you re using an external amplifier connect the SUBWOOFER PRE OUT to it s input Note Make sure the plugs are pushed in all the way The following illustration shows which speaker should be connected to each pair of terminals If you re using only one surround back speaker connect it to the left L SURROUND BACK SPEAKERS terminals aaa Connec

15. the RDS indicator appears RDS indicator E What is RDS RDS stands for Radio Data System and is a method of transmitting data in FM radio signals It was developed by the European Broadcasting Union EBU and is avail able in most European countries Many FM stations use it these days In addition to displaying text information RDS can also help you find radio stations by type e g news sport rock etc The AV receiver supports four types of RDS informa tion PS Program Service When tuned to an RDS station that s broadcasting PS information the station s name will be displayed Press ing the DISPLAY button will display the frequency for 3 seconds RT Radio Text When tuned to an RDS station that s broadcasting text information the text will be shown on the display see page 45 PTY Program Type This allows you to search for RDS radio stations by type see page 45 TP Traffic Program This allows you to search for RDS radio stations that broadcast traffic information see page 45 Notes e In some cases the text characters displayed on the AV receiver may not be identical to those broadcast by the radio station Also unexpected characters may be dis played when unsupported characters are received This is not a malfunction e If the signal from an RDS station is weak RDS data may be displayed intermittently or not at all
