Inserting the plug will disconnect the loud speakers Microphone socket MIC MIXING For a microphone with 3 5 mm plug To avoid disturbing noises reduce the volume before connection you can reproduce your voice amplified through the loudspeakers Set MODE selector to you can mix your voice with CD radio or cassette Set the MODE selector to CD RADIO or TAPE In the CD or RADIO mode you can record it all on the cas sette deck Adjust the sound with the controls VOL UME BASS TREBLE and DYNAMIC BASS BOOST If a howling sound occurs keep the microphone away from the loudspeak ers or reduce the volume Disconnect the microphone when not in use Loudspeaker terminals SPEAKERS See fig 3 for connecting the supplied loud speakers or others having an impedance of 4 Ohms Connect the coloured or marked wire to the red terminal To attach the loudspeakers see fig 4 Move knob to take off the loudspeakers see fig 5 Note The supplied loudspeakers are different for AZ9435 English 10 RADIO RADIO RADIO RECEPTION Switch on the set using the POWER button POWER lights up Set the MODE selector to RADIO Adjust the sound with the controls VOL UME BASS TREBLE and DYNAMIC BASS BOOST Select the wave band using the BAND selector LW not on all versions For FM pull out the telescopic aerial To improve FM reception incline and turn the aerial

Reduce its length if the FM signal is too strong very close to a trans mitter For AM MW and LW Medium and Long Wave the set is provided with a built in aerial so there is no need to use the telescopic aerial The aerial can be directed by turning the whole set Tune to a radio station using the TUNING knob When FM STEREO lights up you are receiving a FM stereo transmitter A dis turbing noise due to a weak FM stereo signal can be suppressed by setting the BAND selector to FM mono FM STEREO will then go out and you will hear and record the FM programme in mono Always switch off the set after use with the POWER button POWER will then go out COMPACT DISC COMPACT DISC PLAYING A DISC Switch on the set using the POWER but ton POWER lights up Set the MODE selector to CD Press OPEN CLOSE to open the CD cover Insert the CD printed side facing up fig 6 Close the cover The CD player starts and scans the contents list of the CD After that the total playing time and the number of tracks appear on the display and the CD player stops Playback will start by pressing PLAY P gt As soon as playback starts the display shows the track number and the elapsed playing time of that title Adjust the sound with the controls VOL UME BASS TREBLE and DYNAMIC BASS BOOST For brief interruptions press PAUSE The word PAUSE then appears To con tinue playback press PAUSE again To stop

12. enever convenient use mains sup ply ifyou want to conserve battery life e Open the battery compartment fig 2 e Insert as indicated eight preferably Alkaline batteries type R20 UMi or D cells fig 2 Note Instead of normal batteries you can also insert Gates rechargeable power sticks 4 x size 2D They require no separate recharger but are recharged automatically in this set whenever connected to a wall out let Use only Gates power sticks Normal rechargeable D cells are not recharged in this set e The battery supply is switched off when the set is connected to the mains When changing over to battery supply pull out the plug from the MAINS socket fig 2 e Remove the batteries if exhausted or if they will not be used again for a long period AC mains supply e Check if the mains voltage as shown on the type plate on the base of the set corresponds to your local mains supply If it does not consult your dealer or serv ice organisation If the set is equipped with a VOLTAGE selector fig 2 set this selector to the local mains voltage e Connect the mains lead to the MAINS socket fig 2 and the wall socket The mains supply is now switched on e To disconnect the set from the mains completely withdraw the mains plug from the wall socket A e e _ CONNECTIONS CONNECTIONS Stereo headphone socket PHONES For stereo headphones with 3 5 mm plug
13. g bearings which must not be oiled or greased Fingerprints dust and dirt on the appara tus can be removed using a soft clean and slightly damp leather cloth Do not use any cleaning agents since they may affect and harm the cabinet Keep the set batteries CDs and cas settes away from rain moisture sand and excessive heat e g near heating equipment or in cars parked in the sun CD player The lens amp fig 7 should never be touched or cleaned The lens may steam up when the set is taken from a cold into a warm environ ment Playing a CD is not possible then Do not clean the lens but let the set acclimatize for a while Always pick up the CD by the edge and put it back in its box immediately after use clean breath on the CD and wipe it off in a straight line from centre to edge fig 8 using a soft lint free cloth Clean ing agents may harm the CD Cassette deck To ensure a good recording and playback quality clean the parts indicated in fig 11 after every 50 hours of operation or on average once a month e Open the cassette holder by pressing EJECT 8 e Use a cotton bud slightly moistened with alcohol or a special head cleaning fluid e Press PLAY gt and clean the rubber pressure roller fig 11 e Then press PAUSE II and clean the magnetic heads 8 and the capstan After cleaning press STOP W Cleaning of the magnetic heads
