1. TROU SHOOTING Most treadmill problems can be solved by following the steps below Find the symptom that applies and follow the steps listed If you need further assistance please see the front cover of this manual PROBLEM The power does not turn on SOLUTION a Make sure that the power cord is plugged into a surge suppressor and that the surge suppressor is plugged into a properly grounded outlet see page 12 Use only a single outlet surge suppres sor that meets all of the specifications described on page 12 Important The treadmill is not com patible with GFCl equipped outlets b After the power cord has been plugged in make sure that the key is inserted into the console c Check the reset off circuit breaker located on the treadmill frame near the power cord If the switch protrudes as shown the circuit breaker has tripped To reset the circuit breaker wait for five minutes and then press the switch back in Tripped PROBLEM The power turns off during use SOLUTION a Check the reset off circuit breaker see the drawing above If the circuit breaker has tripped wait for five minutes and then press the switch back in b Make sure that the power cord is plugged in If the power cord is plugged in unplug it wait for five minutes and then plug it back in c Remove the key from the console Rein
2. l gt POWER INCLINE 3 I QUICK SPEED e Note If there is a sheet of clear plastic on the face of the console remove it FEATURES OF THE CONSOLE The treadmill console offers an impressive array of features designed to make your workouts more effec tive When the manual mode of the console is selected the speed and incline of the treadmill can be changed with the touch of a button As you exercise the console will display continuous exercise feedback You can even measure your heart rate using the built in handgrip pulse sensor or the optional chest pulse sensor see page 19 In addition the console features four preset programs Each program automatically controls the speed and in cline of the treadmill as it guides you through an effec tive workout The console also features four calorie pro grams that automatically control the speed and incline of the treadmill to help you burn unwanted pounds dur ing your workouts To use the manual mode of the console follow the steps beginning on page 14 To use a preset program see page 16 To use a calorie program see page 17 13 HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER Plug in the power cord see page 12 Locate the reset off circuit breaker near the power cord Make sure that the circuit breaker is in the reset position Reset Position attached to the key see the drawing on page 13 and slid

4. mode See page 19 and turn off the demo mode When you are finished using the treadmill switch the reset off circuit breaker to the off position and unplug the power cord 17 HOW TO USE A CALORIE PROGRAM E Insert the key into the console See HOW TO TURN ON THE POW 14 A Enter your weight See step 2 on page 14 Note Always enter your weight before using a calorie program the speed and incline settings of the program will depend on the weight setting that you enter ER on page E Select a calorie program To select a calorie pro gram press the P1 P2 P3 or P4 button After each calorie Ea A i A AL CE EE PO PROGRAM program is selected the maximum speed setting of the program and the maximum incline setting of the program will flash in the display for a few seconds The display will also show how long the program will last The ma trix in the lower part of the display will show the first seven speed settings of the program Press the Start button to start the program A moment after the button is pressed the tread mill will automatically adjust to the first speed and incline settings of the program Hold the handrails and begin walking Each program is divided into 30 35 40 or 45 one minute segments One speed setting and one incline setting are programmed for each segment Note The same speed setting and or incline setting may be programmed for two or more consecutiv

6. place a mat under the treadmill Keep the treadmill out of direct sun light Do not leave the treadmill in the storage position in temperatures above 85 Fahrenheit HOW TO MOVE THE TREADMILL Before moving the treadmill convert the treadmill to the storage position as described above Make sure that the latch pin is fully inserted in the hole in the center of the cushion 1 Hold the upper ends of the handrails Place one foot against one of the wheels Tilt the treadmill backward until it rolls freely on the front wheels Carefully move the treadmill to the desired location To reduce the risk of injury use extreme caution while moving the treadmill Do not move the treadmill over an uneven surface Place one foot against one of the wheels and carefully lower the treadmill until it is resting in the storage position 20 HOW TO LOWER THE TREADMILL FOR USE 1 Hold the upper end of the treadmill with your right hand Pull the latch knob to the left and hold it Pivot the frame down ward until the catch is past the latch pin Latch Pin 2 Hold the metal frame firmly with both hands and lower it to the floor CAUTION To decrease the possibility of injury do not lower the frame by gripping only the plastic foot rails Do not drop the frame to the floor Make sure to bend your legs and keep your back straight 21

Uprights with those on the console assem bly Start the other two Console Screws be fore tightening all four do not overtighten the Console Screws See the inset drawing Push the Uprights 70 76 sideways so that the treadmill Frame 26 is centered between the Uprights Firmly tighten the Upright Bolts 84 85 on each side of the treadmill With the help of a second person carefully raise the Left Upright 70 and the Right Upright 76 to a vertical position Console Assembly Start First Side View 70 76 13 Make sure that all parts are properly tightened before you use the treadmill If there are sheets of clear plastic on the treadmill decals remove the plastic To protect the floor or carpet place a mat under the tread mill Note Extra hardware may be included Keep the included hex key in a secure place the large hex key is used to adjust the walking belt see page 23 10 If you purchase the optional chest pulse sensor see page 19 follow the steps below to install the receiver included with the chest pulse sensor 1 Remove the key from the console and unplug the power cord Remove the 3 4 Screw 23 and the Access Door 100 from the back of the Console Base 98 2 Connect the wire on the receiver A to the indi cated wire extending from the Console Base 98 Hold the receiver so the small cylinder is ori ented as shown and is facing the Con
10. rate if desired Note If you use the handgrip pulse sensor and the op tional chest pulse sensor at the same time the console will not display your heart rate accurately Before using the handgrip pulse sensor remove the clear plastic film from the metal contacts In addition make sure that your hands are clean Contacts To measure your heart rate stand on the foot rails and hold the metal contacts on the handrail avoid moving your hands When your pulse is detected the heart symbol in the right side of the display will appear one or two dashes will appear and then your heart rate will be shown For the most accurate heart rate reading con tinue to hold the contacts for about 15 sec onds El Turn on the fan if desired To turn on the fan at low speed press the Cool Breeze Fan button To turn on the fan at high speed press the button a second time To turn off the fan press the button a third time Note If the fan is left on when the walking belt is stopped the fan will automatically turn off after a few minutes When you are finished exercising remove the key from the console Step onto the foot rails press the Stop button and adjust the incline of the treadmill to the lowest setting The incline must be at the lowest setting when the treadmill is folded to the storage posi tion or the treadmill will be damaged Next re move the key from the console and put it in a se

12. 55 145 140 130 125 15 Y 103 Y 145 138 130 125 118 110 125 120 115 110 105 95 90 e 20 30 40 50 60 70 80 To find the proper heart rate for you first find your age near the bottom of the chart ages are rounded off to the nearest ten years Next find the three numbers above your age The three numbers define your train ing zone The lower two numbers are recommended heart rates for fat burning the higher number is the recommended heart rate for aerobic exercise Fat Burning To burn fat effectively you must exercise at a relatively low intensity level for a sustained period of time During the first few minutes of exercise your body uses easily accessible carbohyorate calories for en 24 ergy Only after the first few minutes does your body begin to use stored a calories for energy If your goal is to burn fat adjust the speed and incline of the tread mill until your heart rate is near the lowest number in your training zone For maximum fat burning adjust the speed and incline of the treadmill until your heart rate is near the middle number in your training zone Aerobic Exercise If your goal is to strengthen your cardiovascular sys tem your exercise must be aerobic Aerobic exercise is activity that requires large amounts of oxygen for prolonged periods of time This increases the demand on the heart to pump blood to the muscles and on the lungs to oxygenate the blood For aerobic exe

Base Pad 89 with a 1 1 4 Tek Screw 108 as shown Attach an additional Base Pad 89 to the Base 81 with a 1 Tek Screws 77 5 With the help of a second person carefully raise the Left Upright 70 and the Right Upright not shown to a vertical position Remove the knob from the pin Make sure that he collar and the spring are on the pin Note If here are two collars place one on each side of he spring Then insert the pin into the Latch Housing 71 and tighten the knob onto the pin See steps 2 and 4 Fully tighten the two Endcap Screws 79 6 Slide a Handrail 62 onto the post on the Left Upright 70 Finger tighten two 1 1 4 Bolts 63 into the Handrail and the post do not fully tighten the Bolts yet Attach the other Handrail 62 to the Right Upright 76 in the same way 7 Make sure that the Upright Wire 75 is posi tioned at the side of the post on the Right Upright 76 as shown Set the Pulse Bar 66 on the Left and Right Uprights 70 76 Attach the Pulse Bar with four Silver Pulse Bar Screws 64 and four Pulse Bar Star Washers 65 Start all four Silver Pulse Bar Screws before firmly tightening them Firmly tighten the four 1 1 4 Bolts 63 8 While a second person holds the console as sembly near the Pulse Bar 66 connect the Ground Wire 107 on the Pulse Bar to the ground wire from the consol

PLUG THE POWER CORD Using the hex key tum both rear roller bolts clock wise 1 4 of a turn When the walking belt is correctly tightened you should be able to lift each edge of the walking belt 2 to 3 inches above the walking platform Be careful to keep the walking belt centered Then plug in the power cord insert the key and carefully walk on the treadmill for a few minutes Repeat until the walking belt is properly tightened 23 CONDITIONING GUIDELINES AWARNING Before beginning this or any exercise program consult your physi lt cian This is especially important for individu als over the age of 35 or individuals with pre existing health problems ae The pulse sensor is not a medical device Various factors including your movement gt may affect the accuracy of heart rate readings The sensor is intended only as an exercise aid in determining heart rate trends in general The following guidelines will help you to plan your ex ercise program For more detailed exercise informa tion obtain a reputable book or consult your physician EXERCISE INTENSITY Whether your goal is to burn fat or to strengthen your cardiovascular system the key to achieving the desired results is to exercise with the proper intensity The proper intensity level can be found by using your heart rate as a guide The chart below shows recom mended heart rates for fat burning and aerobic exercise 165 1

The chest pulse sensor offers hands free operation and enables you to use the con sole s two heart rate programs To purchase the op tional chest pulse sensor call the toll free tele phone number on the front cover of this manual OW TO FOLD AND MOVE THE TREADMILL HOW TO FOLD THE TREADMILL FOR STORAGE Before folding the treadmill adjust the incline to the lowest position lf this is not done the treadmill may be per manently damaged Next unplug the power cord CAUTION You must be able to safely lift 45 pounds 20 kg to raise lower or move the treadmill 1 Hold the metal frame firmly in the location shown by the arrow at the right CAUTION To decrease the possibility of injury do not lift the frame by the plastic foot rails Make sure to bend your legs and keep your back straight As you raise the frame make sure to lift with your legs rather than with your back Raise the frame about halfway to the vertical position Move your right hand to the position shown and hold the treadmill firmly Using your left hand pull the latch knob to the left and hold it Raise the frame until the latch pin is aligned with the hole in the center of the cushion Slowly re lease the latch knob Make sure that the latch pin is fully inserted in the hole in the center of the cushion To protect the floor or carpet from damage

19. al lows you to select miles or kilometers as the unit of measurement and to turn on and turn off the demo mode To select the information mode hold down the Stop button while inserting the key into the console When the information mode is selected the following informa tion will be shown in the display The left side of the display will show the total number of miles or kilometers that the walking belt has moved and the total number of hours that the treadmill has been used An E for English miles or an M for metric kilo meters will appear in the right side of the display Press the Quick Speed increase button to change the unit of measurement ii T a Miles feb E IMPORTANT If a d appears in the right side of the display the console is in the demo mode This mode is intended to be used only when a treadmill is dis played in a store When the console is in the demo mode the power cord can be plugged in the key can be removed from the console and the indicators in the display will automatically appear in a preset sequence although the buttons on the console will not operate If a d appears when the information mode is selected press the Quick Speed decrease button so the d disappears To exit the information mode remove the key from the console 19 THE OPTIONAL CHEST PU SES ENSOR An optional chest pulse sensor adds even more fea tures to the console

21. e segments The speed setting for the first seg ment will be shown in the flashing Current Segment column of the matrix The incline set tings are not shown in the matrix The speed set tings for the next four segments will be shown in the columns to the right bi E E E Tp j E dt oy Le EE E LI PROGRAM Current Segment When only three seconds remain in the first seg ment of the program both the Current Segment column and the column to the right will flash and a series of tones will sound If the speed and or in cline of the treadmill is about to change the speed setting and or the incline setting will flash in the display to alert you When the first segment is completed a speed settings will move one column to the left The speed setting for the second segment will then be shown in the flashing Current Segment column and the treadmill will automatically adjust to the speed and incline settings for the second seg ment Note If all five of the indicators in the Current Segment column are lit the speed settings may move downward so that only the highest indi cators appear in the matrix If the speed or incline setting for the current seg ment is too high or too low you can manually override the setting by pressing the Speed and Incline buttons Every few times a Speed button is pressed an additional indicator will appear or dis appear in the Current Segment column Important When
22. e assembly N Console Assembly Connect the wire from the console assembly to the Upright Wire 75 Make sure to connect the connectors properly see the inset draw ing The connectors should slide together easily and snap into place If the connectors do not slide together easily and snap into place turn one connector and then try again IF THE CONNECTORS ARE NOT CONNECTED PROPERLY THE CONSOLE MAY BE DAM AGED WHEN THE POWER IS TURNED ON Lay the wires inside the bottom of the Pulse Bar 66 9 Set the console assembly on the Left and Right Uprights 70 76 Be careful not to pinch any wires Attach the console assembly to the Pulse Bar 66 with six 3 4 Screws 23 Start all six Screws before tighten them yet 10 Identify the Left Handrail Cover 68 which has a LEFT sticker on it Slide the Left Handrail 19 Console Cover onto the left Handrail 62 and up against Assembly the console assembly Tighten two Cover Screws 52 into the Left Handrail Cover and the Left Upright 70 be careful not to overtighten the Cover Screws Attach the Right Handrail Cover 74 in the same way 11 12 Lower the Uprights 70 76 as shown Start the two indicated Console Screws 67 into the Left and Right Uprights 70 76 and the con sole assembly If necessary pull back on the console assembly slightly to align the holes in the

26. g belt slows when walked on SOLUTION a Use only a single outlet surge suppressor that meets all the specifications described on page 12 b If the walking belt is overtightened treadmill perfor mance may decrease and the walking belt may be come damaged Remove the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD Using the hex key turn both rear roller bolts counterclockwise 1 4 of a tum When the walking belt is properly tightened you should be able to lift each edge of the walking belt 2 to 3 inches above the walking platform Be careful to keep the walking belt centered Then plug in the power cord insert the key and run the treadmill for a few minutes Repeat until the walking belt is properly tightened Rear Roller Bolts c If the walking belt still slows when walked on please see the front cover of this manual PROBLEM The walking belt is off center or slips when walked on SOLUTION a If the walking belt is off center first remove the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD If the walking belt has shifted to the left use the hex key to tum the left rear roller bolt clockwise 1 2 of a turn if the walking belt has shifted to the right tum the left bolt counterclockwise 1 2 of a turn Be careful not to overtighten the walking belt Then plug in the power cord insert the key and run the treadmill for a few minutes Repeat until the walking belt is centered b If the walking belt slips when walked on first re move the key and UN
27. med for two or more consecutive seg ments The speed setting for the first seg iS ment will be shown in the Current Segment flashing Current Segment column of the matrix in the lower part of the display The incline settings are not shown in 16 the matrix The speed settings for the next four segments will be shown in the columns to the right When only three seconds remain in the first seg ment of the program both the Current Segment column and the column to the right will flash and a series of tones will sound If the speed and or in cline of the treadmill is about to change the speed setting and or the incline setting will flash in the display to alert you When the first segment is completed 4 speed settings will move one column to the left The speed setting for the second segment will then be shown in the flashing Current Segment column and the treadmill will automatically adjust to the speed and incline settings for the second seg ment Note If all five of the indicators in the Current Segment column are lit he speed settings may move downward so that only the highest indi cators appear in the matrix The program will continue in this way until the speed setting for the last segment is shown in the Current Segment column and the last segment ends The walking belt will then slow to a stop If the speed or incline setting for the current segment is too high or too low you can manually o

32. rcise adjust the speed and incline of the treadmill until your heart rate is near the highest number in your training zone WORKOUT GUIDELINES Each workout should include the following three parts A Warm up Start each workout with 5 to 10 minutes of stretching and light exercise A proper warm up in creases your body temperature heart rate and circula tion in preparation for exercise Training Zone Exercise After warming up increase the intensity of your exercise until your heart rate is in your training zone for 20 to 60 minutes During the first few weeks of your exercise program do not keep your heart rate in your training zone for longer than 20 minutes Breathe regularly and deeply as you exer cise never hold your breath A Cool down Finish each workout with 5 to 10 min utes of stretching to cool down This will increase the flexibility of your muscles and will help prevent post exercise problems EXERCISE FREQUENCY To maintain or improve your condition complete three workouts each week with at least one day of rest be tween workouts After a few months you may com plete up to five workouts each week if desired The key to success is to make exercise a regular and enjoyable part of your everyday life SUGGESTED STRETCHES The correct form for several basic stretches is shown at the right Move slowly as you stretch never bounce 1 Toe Touch Stretch Stand with your knees ben
33. sert the key into the console d If the treadmill still will not run see the front cover of this manual PROBLEM The incline of the treadmill does not change correctly SOLUTION a With the key in the console press one of the Incline buttons While the incline is changing re move the key After a few seconds re insert the key The treadmill will automatically rise to the maximum incline level and then retum to the minimum level This will recalibrate the incline system PROBLEM The display of the console does not function properly SOLUTION a Remove the key from the console and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD With the help of a second person carefully tip the Uprights 70 76 down as shown Remove the three Hood Screws 11 and two 3 4 Screws 23 Note A phillips screwdriver with a shaft at least 5 long is required 22 With the help of a second person carefully raise the Uprights 70 76 as shown Carefully pivot the Hood 28 off Locate the Reed Switch 39 and the Magnet 6 on the left side of the Pulley 7 Turn the Pulley until the Magnet is aligned with the Reed Switch Make sure that the gap between the Magnet and the Reed Switch is about 1 8 If necessary loosen the Screw 11 move the Reed Switch slightly and then retighten the Screw Reattach the Hood and run the treadmill for a few minutes to check for a correct speed reading PROBLEM The walkin
