To identify small parts see page 6 Assembly requires the following tools the included hex key Lo one adjustable wrench one Phillips screwdriver E scissors F needlenose pliers gt To avoid damaging parts do not use power tools for assembly Cardboard 3 Identify the Left Upright 88 which is marked with a Left sticker Have a second person hold the Left Upright near the Base 91 See the inset drawing Tie the wire tie in the Left Upright 88 securely around the Upright Wire 77 about 8 in 20 cm down from the end Then pull the other end of the wire tie until the Upright Wire is routed completely through the Left Upright Note The Upright Wire should bend so that the connectors are pointing down ward Hold the Left Upright 88 against the Base 91 Be careful not to pinch the Upright Wire 77 or the Ground Wire 90 Insert two 3 8 x 2 3 4 Patch Screws 7 and two 3 8 x 1 1 4 Patch Screws 8 with two 3 8 Star Washers 13 into the Left Upright Partially tighten the 3 8 x 2 3 4 Patch Screws 7 and the 3 8 x 1 1 4 Patch Screws 8 until the heads of the Patch Screws touch the Left Upright 88 do not fully tighten the Patch Screws yet Note It may be helpful to use the Short Hex Key 110 on the Bolt shown Attach the Right Upright not shown in the same way Note There are no wires on the right side Wire Tie 5 Identify the Left and Right Base C
3. 3 mm If necessary loosen the 8 x 3 4 Tek Screw 80 b If the walking belt is overtightened treadmill perfor move the Reed Switch slightly and then retighten mance may decrease and the walking belt may be the Screw Reattach the Motor Hood not shown come damaged Remove the key and UNPLUG and run the treadmill for a few minutes to check for THE POWER CORD Using the hex key turn both a correct speed reading idler roller screws counterclockwise 1 4 of a turn When the walking belt is properly tightened you should be able to lift each edge of the walking belt 2 to 3 in 5 to 7 cm off the walking platform Be careful to keep the walking belt centered Then plug in the power cord insert the key and run the treadmill for a few minutes Repeat until the walk ing belt is properly tightened SYMPTOM The incline of the treadmill does not change correctly a Hold down the Stop button and the Speed increase button insert the key into the console and then re lease the Stop button and the Speed increase but ton Press the Stop button and then press the Idler Roller Screws Incline increase or decrease button The treadmill will automatically rise to the maximum incline level and then return to the minimum level This will recal C If the walking belt still slows when walked on see the front cover of this manual SYMPTOM The walking belt is off center or slips when walked on a If the walking belt is off center first remove

C or below 14 F 10 Do not excessively bend or stretch the sensor unit when using or storing the chest pulse sensor Clean the sensor unit using a damp cloth never use alcohol abrasives or chemicals The chest strap may be hand washed and air dried TROUBLESHOOTING The instructions on the following pages explain how the chest pulse sensor is used with the con sole If the chest pulse sensor does not function properly try the steps below Make sure that you are wearing the chest pulse sen sor as described at the left Note If the chest pulse sensor does not function when positioned as de scribed move it slightly lower or higher on your chest Use saline solution such as saliva or contact lens solution to wet the two electrode areas on the sensor unit If heart rate readings do not appear until you begin perspiring rewet the electrode areas As you walk or run on the treadmill position your self near the center of the walking belt For the console to display heart rate readings the user must be within arm s length of the console The chest pulse sensor is designed to work with people who have normal heart rhythms Heart rate reading problems may be caused by medical conditions such as premature ventricular contrac tions pvcs tachycardia bursts and arrhythmia The operation of the chest pulse sensor can be affected by magnetic interference caused by high power lines or other sources If it is su

Start the walking belt To start the walking belt press the Start button the Speed increase button or one of the numbered Quick Speed buttons If you press the Start button or the Speed increase button the walking belt will begin to move at 1 mph As you exercise change the speed of the walking belt as desired by pressing the Speed in crease and decrease buttons Each time you press one of the buttons the speed setting will change by 0 1 mph if you hold down the button the speed setting will change in increments of 0 5 mph Note After you press the button it may take a moment for the walking belt to reach the selected speed setting If you press one of the numbered Quick Speed but tons the walking belt will gradually change speed until it reaches the selected speed setting To se lect a speed setting that includes a decimal such as 3 5 mph press two numbered buttons in suc cession For example to select a speed setting of 3 5 mph press the 3 button and then immediately press the 5 button To stop the walking belt press the Stop button The time will begin to flash in the display To restart the walking belt press the Start button or the Speed increase button Change the incline of the treadmill as desired To change the incline of the treadmill press the Incline increase or decrease button or one of the numbered Quick Incline buttons Each time you press one of the buttons the treadmill will gradu ally adj

Do not leave the treadmill in the storage position in temperatures above 85 F 30 C 27 TROUBLESHOOTING Most treadmill problems can be solved by following the simple steps below Find the symptom that applies and follow the steps listed If further assis tance is needed see the front cover of this manual SYMPTOM The power does not turn on a Make sure that the power cord is plugged into a surge suppressor and that the surge suppressor is plugged into a properly grounded outlet see page 17 Use only a single outlet surge suppressor that meets all of the specifications described on page 17 IMPORTANT The treadmill is not compati ble with GFCI equipped outlets and may not be compatible with AFCl equipped outlets b Afterthe power cord has been plugged in make sure that the key is inserted into the console c Check the power switch located on the treadmill frame near the power cord If the switch protrudes as shown the switch has tripped To reset the power switch wait for five minutes and then press the switch back in Tripped SYMPTOM The power turns off during use a Check the power switch see the drawing above If the switch has tripped wait for five minutes and then press the switch back in b Make sure that the power cord is plugged in If the power cord is plugged in unplug it wait for five minutes and then plug it back in Remove the key from the console and then reinsert it If t
7. the sensor unit Sensor Unit Next wrap the chest pulse sensor around your chest and attach the other end of the chest strap to the sensor unit Adjust the length of the chest strap if neces sary The chest pulse sensor should be under your clothes tight against your skin and as high under the pectoral muscles or breasts as is comfortable Make sure that the logo on the sensor unit is facing forward and is right side up Pull the sensor unit away from your body a few inches and locate the two electrode areas on the inner side the electrode areas are covered by shallow ridges Using saline solution such as saliva or contact lens so lution wet both electrode areas Return the sensor unit to a position against your chest CARE AND MAINTENANCE Thoroughly dry the chest pulse sensor after each use The chest pulse sensor is activated when the electrode areas are wetted and the chest pulse sen sor is put on the chest pulse sensor shuts off when it is removed and the electrode areas are dried If the chest pulse sensor is not dried after each use it 16 may remain activated longer than necessary drain ing the battery prematurely Store the chest pulse sensor in a warm dry place Do not store the chest pulse sensor in a plastic bag or other container that may trap moisture Do not expose the chest pulse sensor to direct sunlight for extended periods of time do not expose it to temperatures above 122 F 50

12. on each side Do not place the treadmill on any surface that blocks air open ings To protect the floor or carpet from dam age place a mat under the treadmill Do not operate the treadmill where aerosol products are used or where oxygen is being administered Keep children under age 12 and pets away from the treadmill at all times The treadmill should be used only by persons weighing 350 Ibs 159 kg or less Never allow more than one person on the treadmill at a time Wear appropriate exercise clothes when using the treadmill Do not wear loose clothes that could become caught in the treadmill Athletic support clothes are recommended for both men and women Always wear ath letic shoes Never use the treadmill with bare feet wearing only stockings or in sandals When connecting the power cord see page 17 plug the power cord into a surge sup pressor not included and plug the surge suppressor into a grounded circuit capable of 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 carrying 15 or more amps No other appliance should be on the same circuit Do not use an extension cord Use only a single outlet surge suppressor that meets all of the specifications described on page 17 To purchase a surge suppressor see your local HEALTHRIDER dealer or call the telephone number on the front cover of this manual and order part number 146148 or see your local electronics store Failure to use a properly function
13. the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD If the walking belt has shifted to the left use the hex key to turn the left idler roller screw clockwise 1 2 of a turn if the walking belt has shifted to the right turn the left idler roller screw counterclock wise 1 2 of a turn Be careful not to overtighten the walking belt Then plug in the power cord insert the key and run the treadmill for a few minutes Repeat until the walking belt is centered If the walking belt slips when walked on first re move the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD Using the hex key turn both idler roller screws clockwise 1 4 of a turn When the walking belt is correctly tightened you should be able to lift each edge of the walking belt 2 to 3 in 5 to 7 cm off the walking platform Be careful to keep the walk ing belt centered Then plug in the power cord in sert the key and carefully walk on the treadmill for a few minutes Repeat until the walking belt is properly tightened SYMPTOM The console display has lines running through it SOLUTION a If lines appear in the console display 30 see THE INFORMATION MODE on page 25 and adjust the contrast level of the display EXERCISE GUIDELINES A WARNING Before beginning this or any exercise program consult your physi cian This is especially important for persons over age 35 or persons with pre existing health problems The pulse sensor is not a medical device Various factors may aff
14. the duration of the workout the distance you will walk or run the approximate number of calories you will burn the name of the workout and the maximum speed and incline settings If you se lect a competition workout the display will count down to the beginning of the race Note Each iFit Live button can also run two demo workouts To use the demo workouts remove the iFit Live module from the console and press one of the iFit Live buttons Start the workout See step 3 on page 22 During some workouts the voice of a personal trainer will guide you through your workout You can select a setting for your personal trainer see THE INFORMATION MODE on page 25 To stop the workout at any time press the Stop button The time will begin to flash in the display To resume the workout press the Start button or the Speed increase button The walking belt will begin to move at the speed setting for the first seg ment of the workout When the next segment of the workout begins the treadmill will automatically ad just to the speed and incline settings for the next segment 6 Follow your progress with the displays See step 5 on page 20 The My Trail tab will show a map of the trail you are walking or running or it will show a track and the number of laps you are completing During a competition workout the Competition tab will show your progress in the race As you race the top line in the matrix will show how much of the race

17. ar the power cord Press the power switch into the reset position IMPORTANT The console features a display demo mode designed to be used if the treadmill is dis played in a store If the displays light as soon as you plug in the power cord and press the power switch into the reset position the demo mode is turned on To turn off the demo mode hold down the Stop button for a few seconds If the displays remain lit see THE INFORMATION MODE on page 25 to turn off the demo mode Next stand on the foot rails of the tread mill Find the clip at tached to the key and slide the clip onto the waistband of your clothes Then insert the key into the console After a moment the displays will light IM PORTANT In an emergency the key can be pulled from the console causing the walking belt to slow to a stop Test the clip by carefully taking a few steps backward if the key is not pulled from the console adjust the position of the clip Note The console can display speed and distance in either miles or kilometers To find which unit of mea surement is selected see THE INFORMATION MODE on page 25 For simplicity all instructions in this man ual refer to miles 19 HOW TO USE THE MANUAL MODE Insert the key into the console See HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER at the left Select the manual mode If the manual mode is not selected press the Manual button on the console
18. art the workout Press the Start button or the Speed increase button to start the workout A moment after you press the button the treadmill will automatically adjust to the first speed and incline settings of the workout Hold the handrails and begin walking Each workout is divided into segments One speed setting and one incline setting are programmed for each segment Note The same speed setting and or incline setting may be programmed for con secutive segments During the workout the profiles on the speed and incline tabs will show your Current Segment 22 progress The flashing segment of the profile repre sents the current segment of the workout The height of the flashing segment indicates the speed or incline setting for the current segment At the end of each segment a series of tones will sound and the next segment of the profile will begin to flash If a different speed and or incline setting is programmed for the next segment the new speed and or incline settings will appear in the display for a few seconds and the treadmill will automatically adjust to the new speed and or incline setting The workout will continue in this way until the last segment of the profile flashes in the display and the last segment ends The walking belt will then slow to a stop Note The calorie goal is an estimate of the number of calories that you will burn during the workout The actual number of calories that you bur

20. bs 20 mill may require two people kg to raise lower or move the treadmill 1 Holdthe frame and one of the handrails and place 1 Hold the metal frame firmly in the location shown one foot against a wheel by the arrow below CAUTION Do not hold the frame by the plastic foot rails Bend your legs and keep your back straight 2 Pullback on the handrail until the treadmill will roll 2 Raise the frame until the latch knob locks in the on the wheels and carefully move it to the desired storage position CAUTION Make sure that the location CAUTION Do not move the treadmill latch knob locks without tipping it back do not pull on the frame and do not move the treadmill over an uneven surface 3 Place one foot against a wheel and carefully lower the treadmill Frame HOW TO LOWER THE TREADMILL FOR USE 1 See drawing 2 Hold the upper end of the treadmill frame with your right hand Then pull the latch knob to the left CAUTION Do not turn the latch knob If necessary push the frame forward slightly Pivot the frame downward a few inches and release the latch knob 2 See drawing 1 at the left Hold the metal frame firmly with both hands and lower it to the floor CAUTION Do not hold the frame by the plastic foot rails and do not drop the frame Bend your legs and keep your back straight To protect the floor or carpet place a mat under the treadmill Keep the treadmill out of direct sunlight
21. dy begin to use stored fat calories for energy If your goal is to burn fat adjust the intensity of your exercise until your heart rate is near the lowest number in your training zone For maximum fat burning exercise with your heart rate near the middle number in your training zone Aerobic Exercise If your goal is to strengthen your cardiovascular system you must perform aerobic exer cise which is activity that requires large amounts of oxygen for prolonged periods of time For aerobic ex ercise adjust the intensity of your exercise until your heart rate is near the highest number in your training zone WORKOUT GUIDELINES Warming Up Start with 5 to 10 minutes of stretching and light exercise A warm up increases your body temperature heart rate and circulation in preparation for exercise Training Zone Exercise Exercise for 20 to 30 min utes with your heart rate in your training zone During the first few weeks of your exercise program do not keep your heart rate in your training zone for longer than 20 minutes Breathe regularly and deeply as you exercise never hold your breath Cooling Down Finish with 5 to 10 minutes of stretch ing Stretching increases the flexibility of your muscles and helps to prevent post exercise problems EXERCISE FREQUENCY To maintain or improve your condition complete three workouts each week with at least one day of rest be tween workouts After a few months of regular
22. e fan features several speed settings Press the Fan increase or decrease button to select a fan speed or to turn off the fan Note If the fan is on when the walking belt is stopped the fan will turn off automatically after a few minutes When you are finished exercising remove the key from the console Step onto the foot rails press the Stop button and adjust the incline of the treadmill to zero per cent The incline must be at zero percent or you may damage the treadmill when you fold it to the storage position Next remove the key from the console and put it in a secure place When you are finished using the treadmill press the power switch into the off position and unplug the power cord IMPORTANT If you do not do this the treadmill s electrical components may wear prematurely HOW TO USE AN ONBOARD WORKOUT 1 Insert the key into the console See HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER on page 19 Select an onboard workout To select an onboard workout press the Calorie button the Intensity button the Speed button or the Incline button repeatedly until the desired work out appears in the display When you select an onboard workout the display will show the duration the distance and the name of the workout In addition a profile of the speed settings of the workout will appear in the matrix If you select a calorie workout the approximate num ber of calories you will burn will appear in the name of the workout St
