REMOVE BATTERIES WHEN THE CAMERA IS NOT TO BE USED FOR AN EX TENDED PERIOD OF TIME LOADING FILM Fig 4 6 Pull down the back cover release latch 12 and swing open the back cover Insert the 35mm film cassette into the film chamber 11 Do not force it in If the cassette does not fit easily turn the rewind shaft 14 slightly so that it engages with the film cassette spool Put the film leader over the take up drum so the tip of the leader aligns with the arrow mark at the top and bottom of the drum 19 and close the back cover Open the lens cover by sliding the lens cover button 3 towards the arrow Depress the shutter release button 1 The film will advance automatically Repeat until the figure 1 appears in the film counter window 9 The film is now in position for the first picture FILM SPEED SETTING Fig 7 This camera accepts films with speeds ISO 100 200 400 1000 Slide the film speed setting lever 5 to the speed of the film in use FILM DRIVE CONFIRMATION Fig 8 The film drive confirmation window 8 has a disc inside which will rotate to show you that film is loaded and advancing properly However please remember that the film inside the new film cassette may be loaded somewhat loosely and the disc may not rotate until the slack has been taken up The disc should begin to rotate after a few exposures COMPOSE YOUR PICTURE Fig 9 Look through the viewfinder 17 and compose your pi
3. cture Keep at least 1 2 meters about 4 ft from your subject and have the sun behind you Hold the camera firmly with both hands to prevent camera shake FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY Fig 10 12 When you take indoor pictures or outdoor pictures in poor lighting conditions the low light warning lamp 16 will glow when shutter button is depressed half way in this case set the flash switch 6 to ON When the flash is charged enough to take a picture the flash ready light 15 wil glow The main subject should be within the following range from the camera approx 1 2 to 4 meters AUTOMATIC REWIND amp UNLOADING CAMERA Fig 13 14 15 When you finish the last exposure of the film and when the motor does not function when the shutter button is depressed push the rewind button 10 towards the arrow and even when the counter returns to S keep the rewind button pushed for a few more seconds NOTE Rewind button must be kept pushed while rewinding When the film has been rewound into its film cassette open the back cover and take out the film cassette and send it for processing without delay The film counter automatically reverts to the starting point marked S 11 FLASH IN FOCUS SYSTEM Most popular cameras are of the fixed focus type which is relatively simple to use but close subjects and far distances will be out of focus The zone focus system eliminates this drawback but in many cases the user
4. mis handles the camera by taking a far distance subject with the lens set at near distance or vice versa The FLASH IN FOCUS SYSTEM incorporates the good features of both systems and it eliminates the drawbacks Now with the FLASH IN FOCUS SYSTEM for normal photography subjects from 1 2 meters about 4 ft to infinity are in sharp focus and for near distances which are limited to flash photography it automatically moves the focus point so that subjects from 1 2 meter to 4 meters are in focus The focus point is changed inter nally by a very unique optical system WARNING To avoid any risk of electrical shock do not attempt to take the camera apart Because we continually strive to improve our products we may change specifications without notice 13 WARRANTY POLICY All Pentax cameras purchased through authorized bona fide photographic distribution channels are guaranteed against defects of material or workmanship for a period of twelve months from date of purchase Service will be rendered and defective parts will be replaced without cost to you within that period provided the equipment has not been abused altered or operated contrary to instruction Because the tolerances quality and design compatibility of lenses other than Pentax lenses are beyond our control damage caused by use of such lenses will not be covered by this warranty policy The manufacturer or its authorized representatives shall not be liable for any
5. repair or alterations except those made with its written consent and shall not be liable for damages from delay or loss of use or from other indirect or consequential damages of any kind whether caused by defective material or workmanship or otherwise and it is expressly agreed that the liability of the manufacturer or its representatives under all guarantees or warranties whether expressed or implied is strictly limited to the replacement of parts as hereinbefore provided 23 Procedure During 12 month Warranty Period Any Pentax which proves defective during the 12 month warranty period should be returned to the dealer from whom you purchased the equipment or to the manufacturer If there is no representative of the manufacturer in your country send the equipment to the manufacturer with postage prepaid In this case it will take a considerable length of time before the equipment can be returned to you owing to the complicated customs procedures required in Japan in importing and re exporting photographic equipment If the equipment is covered by warranty repairs will be made and parts replaced free of charge and the equipment will be returned to you upon completion of servicing If the equipment is not covered by warranty regular charges of the manufacturer or of its representatives will apply Shipping charges are to be borne by the owner If your Pentax was purchased outside of the country where you wish to have serviced during
6. the warranty period regular handling and servicing fees may be charged by the manufacturer s representatives in that country Notwithstanding this your Pentax returned to the manufacturer will be serviced free of charge according to this procedure and warranty policy In any case however shipping charges and customs clearance fees are to be borne by the sender To prove the date of your purchase when required please keep the receipts or bills covering the purchase of your equipment for at least a year Before sending your equipment for servicing please make sure that you are sending it to the manufacturer s authorized representatives or their accredited repair shops unless you are sending it directly to the manufacturer Always obtain a quotation of the service charge and only after you accept the quoted service charge instruct the service station to proceed with the servicing This warranty policy does not apply to Pentax products purchased in the U S A U K or Canada The focal warranty policies available from Pentax distributors in those countries supersede this warranty policy 24
