7. arm water or replace it with a new one A dry filter must be put back into cleaner Do not operate cleaner without sec ondary filter in place Belt replacement The belt in your power nozzle drives the agitator It has been designed specifi cally for use in this cleaner and is impor tant for effective operation What to buy There are other belts manufactured that are similar in shape and size but are not designed for the HOOVER power noz zle Such belts do not operate the agi tator correctly and may create stress which could damage your power noz zle Use only a genuine HOOVER belt No 38528 011 when a belt replacement is necessary When to replace The belt located under the nozzle cover should be checked from time to time to be sure it is in good condition Remove nozzle cover as shown below Replace belt if it is stretched cut or broken Clearing blockages Low suction or pick up may be due to blockages in the system Refer to the following steps to check for blockages continuing with each step until the block age is found 1 Turn cleaner off and disconnect from electrical outlet then disconnect power nozzle plug and wands from hand grip 2 Plug cleaner in turn on and 30 cock hose end for suction Remove any blockages 3 Remove power nozzle from wands and attach wands to hose Check for suction and remove any blockages How to replace Disconnect cleaner from electri
8. cal outlet and disconnect power nozzle from cleaner Turn nozzle over and unscrew the 4 recessed Phillips head screws Note Do not remove the 3 screws in the triangle formation as these hold the motor in place Continued gt 7 Return nozzle to original position lift off nozzle cover If belt is not broken pull it off the motor pulley A Lift up end of agitator Remove old belt from agitator and replace with new belt B Lettering on belt must be visible Stretch belt back and attach to motor pulley A Hold opposite end of agitator in place Push belt end forward rotating end plate C until it slides into place Turn agita tor making sure it rotates freely How to replace The agitator may be replaced with either a single or double row of brushes Single row of brushes Hoover part No 48414 051 Double row of brushes Hoover part No 48414 049 1 Remove nozzle cover agitator and belt as shown in How to replace belt 2 Discard old agitator 3 Place new agitator as shown in figures 35 37 of How to replace belt Position nozzle cover on front lip of nozzle base Press cover into place Turn nozzle over and replace screws Headlight replacement Available on some models How to replace Disconnect cleaner from electrical outlet The headlight located in the top of the power nozzle operates when the clean er is turned on When replacing the bulb use o

12. mance it is imper ative that you use only genuine HOOVER throw away bags distributed by The Hoover Company HOOVER bags can be identified by these trademarks Hoover To clean stairs Clean stairs by placing cleaner on 230 as shown Clean stairs from bottom to top How to replace Disconnect cleaner from electrical outlet Rotate hose to the side lift bag lid latch and open bag lid 25 Carefully pull out used bag Form new bag into a box like shape Slide bag collar firmly into holder Push rear edge of bag into bag cavity below seal A Clear bag opening B by pushing the pierced paper through opening toward bag interior Close bag lid Re attaching bag lid The bag lid and hinges are designed with a break away fea ture If the lid is pushed open too far it will come off It can be easily re attached by aligning the hinges with the appropriate slots in the cleaner as shown 4 Make sure power nozzle plug is disconnected from hand grip Then check for blockage in nozzle con nector A While holding nozzle push nozzle con nector down to lowest position Look into nozzle connector and remove any blockages Secondary filter How to clean Disconnect cleaner from electrical outlet The secondary filter located behind the grill in the bag com partment protects the motor from dirt particles If filter becomes dirty pull off grill and lift out filter Wash filter in w
13. nly Hoover part No 27317 307 which is a fused bulb 1 Remove the nozzle cover as shown in How to replace belt The agitator When to replace Disconnect from electrical outlet When agitator brushes are worn the agita tor should be replaced To check condition of brushes move edge of card across agitator opening while turning agitator To maintain cleaning effectiveness replace agitator if brushes do not touch edge of card 2 Push old bulb into socket and twist to remove Push new bulb into socket and twist into place 3 Replace nozzle cover Lubrication The motor is equipped with bearings which have been lubricated for the life of the motor The addition of lubricant could cause damage Therefore do not add lubricant to either motor bearing The agitator is equipped with two ball bearings that should be lubricated period ically by a Hoover Factory Service Center or an Authorized Hoover Warranty Service Dealer Depot Service To obtain approved HOOVER service and genuine HOOVER parts locate the nearest Hoover Factory Service Center or Authorized Hoover Warranty Service Dealer Depot by e checking the Yellow Pages under Vacuum Cleaners Household OR e checking the list of Factory Service Centers provided with this cleaner OR e calling 1 800 944 9200 for an automated referral of authorized service outlet locations U S only OR e checking the Service section of the Hoo

16. sible Latch A will automatically fasten To disconnect hose first remove hose cord plug from receptacle while pulling out on latch Then depress buttons shown in Fig 3 by arrows on hose con nector and pull up Note The flexible hose contains elec trical wires for connection to the power nozzle and should not be used if damaged The wires should not be seen through the outer skin Attach power nozzle and extension wands To attach hose to extension wand turn plastic latch ring on hand grip until outer slot lines up with inner slot Push hand grip down onto wand so that button projection fits into slot Turn latch ring to lock into place For cleaners with plastic wands the second wand tools and power nozzle are attached in this manner Reverse procedure to remove wand tool or nozzle For cleaners with metal wands attach second wand or tool by pushing the button projection C on one into the spring latch D of the first wand Connect nozzle to second wand in the same manner To release press down on center of latch and remove nozzle Push plug on power nozzle cord completely into cord receptacle underneath hand grip Always disconnect cleaner from elec trical outlet before attaching or removing power nozzle plug To reduce the risk of electric shock this appliance has a polarized plug one blade is wider than the other This plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one way If the plug
