5. 37 MP EN TX SR803_En book Page 38 Friday August 26 2005 9 26 AM Connecting Your Components Continued Connecting the Power Cords of Other Components The AV receiver has AC outlets on its rear panel that can be used to connect the power cords of other components that you intend to use with the AV receiver These com ponents can then be left turned on so that they turn on and off as and when the AV receiver is turned on and set to Standby LO AC OUTLETS AC 230 240V 50Hz SWITCHED TOTAL 100W MAX European and some American model Asian models Caution e Make sure that the total capacity of the components that you connect to the AC OUTLETS does not exceed the stated capacity e g TOTAL 120 W Note Onkyo components connected via fR1 should be con nected directly to a wall outlet not an AC OUTLET on the AV receiver The number of AC OUTLETS socket type and total capacity depends on the country in which you pur chased the AV receiver Connecting the RS232 Port American and Australian models do not have this port This port is for connecting the AV receiver to home auto mation equipment and external controllers Connecting the Power Cord Before connecting the power cord connect all your speakers and AV components e Connect the AV receiver s power cord to a suitable wall

14. ll need to tune into an AM radio station and adjust the position of the AM antenna to achieve the best possible reception Keep the antenna as far away as possible from your AV receiver TV speaker cables and power cords If you cannot achieve good reception with the supplied indoor AM loop antenna try using it with a commer cially available outdoor AM antenna see page 23 e o mal MP EN TX SR803_En book Page 23 Friday August 26 2005 9 26 AM Connecting Antenna Continued Connecting an Outdoor FM Antenna If you cannot achieve good reception with the supplied indoor FM antenna try a commercially available out door FM antenna instead l FM 75Q Notes Outdoor FM antennas work best outside but usable results can sometimes be obtained when installed in an attic or loft For best results install the outdoor FM antenna well away from tall buildings preferably with a clear line of sight to your local FM transmitter e Outdoor antenna should be located away from possi ble noise sources such as neon signs busy roads etc e For safety reasons outdoor antenna should be situated well away from power lines and other high voltage equipment e Outdoor antenna must be grounded in accordance with local regulations to prevent electrical shock haz ards E Using a TV FM Antenna Splitter It s best not to use the same antenna for both FM and TV reception
15. t work e Make sure the source material is Dolby Digital page 68 The multichannel DVD input doesn t work e Check the multichannel DVD input connections page 28 To select the multichannel DVD input press the MULTI CH input selector button e Check the audio output settings on your DVD player About DTS signals e When playing DTS program material using the pause fast forward or fast reverse function on your player may produce a short audible noise This is not a mal function e When DTS program material ends and the DTS bit stream stops the AV receiver remains in DTS listen ing mode and the DTS indicator remains on This is to prevent noise when you use the pause fast forward or fast reverse function on your player If you switch your player from DTS to PCM because the AV receiver does not switch formats immediately you may not hear any sound in which case you should stop your player for about 3 seconds and then resume playback e With some CD players you won t be able to playback DTS material properly even though your player is con nected to a digital input on the AV receiver This is usually because the DTS bitstream has been processed e g output level sampling rate or frequency response changed and the AV receiver doesn t recog nize it as a genuine DTS signal In such cases you may hear noise Video There s no picture e Make sure that all video connecting plugs are pushed in all
