MAY 2008 FIRST PRINTING QUICK REFERENCE GUIDE TAURUS X LITHO IN USA ED VN 9F9J 19G217 AA Be E INTEGRATED KEYHEAD TRANSMITTER KT AND REMOTE ENTRY SYSTEM Your vehicle comes equipped with two programmed Integrated Keyhead Transmitters IKTs which are both a programmed ignition key and a remote keyless entry transmitter Handle the IKT carefully when starting the car to avoid accidentally pressing any of the remote entry buttons Press once to unlock the driver s door The interior lamps will illuminate Press twice to unlock all the doors Press 4 once to lock all the doors The turn lamps will flash Press amp twice to confirm all the doors and trunk are closed The doors will lock again the horn will chirp and the turn lamps will flash once if all the doors and trunk are closed Note If any door or the trunk is not closed the horn will chirp twice and the lamps will not flash Press GJ to activate the panic alarm The horn will sound and the turn lamps will flash Press C again or turn the ignition on to deactivate the panic alarm Press 4 1 to unlock the trunk Car finder Press twice within three seconds The horn will chirp and the turn lamps will flash It is recommended to use this method to locate your vehicle rather than using the panic alarm Note Ensure that you keep the adhesive security labels in a safe place for future reference Replacement
2. features and devices when it is safe to do so l l SEVEN EIGHT TAURUS X INSTRUMENT PANELAND NT ERIOR Features ONE HEADLAMPS AND FOG LAMPS Turn the control one position to the right P to turn on the parking lamps instrument panel lamps license plate lamps and tail lamps Turn the control to the second position on the right 2 to turn on the headlamps Turn the control one position to the left to activate the autolamp feature if equipped which automatically turns the exterior lamps on and off based on available daylight Pull the control towards you to activate the fog lamps if equipped The fog lamps will not operate when the control is turned off or when the high beams are on TWO PANEL DIMMER Use this control to adjust the brightness of the instrument panel and all applicable switches in the vehicle during headlamp and parking lamp operation Move the control to the full upright position past the detent to turn on the interior lamps THREE ADJUSTABLE PEDALS ae equipren Press the top of the control to move the pedals further away from you or press the bottom of the control to move the pedals closer to you The pedals should only be adjusted when the vehicle is stopped and in Park P FOUR HOOD RELEASE To open the hood pull the hood release handle under the bottom of the instrument panel near the steering column Go to the front of the vehicle and release the auxiliary latch located under th

ADJUSTING 2ND ROW BUCKET AND BENCH SEATS Lift the side handle to adjust the seat back Using the same control will fold the seat back flat Lifting the control if equipped located underneath the seat cushion will adjust the seat forward or backward lM ACCESSING THE 3RD ROW SEATS Ensure that the 2nd row seat adjustable head restraints if equipped are in the full down position and that no objects such as books purses or briefcases are E on the floor in front of the 2nd row seats before folding them down Place the front row seat in a forward position to allow the 2nd row seat to be fully tumbled Lift the handle once to fold the seat back flat Lift the same handle a second time to tumble the seat forward to allow access to the 3rd row seat E STOWING THE 3RD ROW BENCH OR SPLIT BENCH SEAT IN TUB Move the adjustable head restraint if equipped fully down Ensure that the stowage tub is clear of objects From the rear of the vehicle fold t m7 the seat back by pulling and m holding the number 1 strap while pushing the seat back forward Release the strap after the seat back starts rotating forward Release the cushion latches by pulling the number 2 strap while pulling on the long strap located on the seat back to rotate the seat all the way into the tub in the floor AUDIO SYSTEM LOAD To load a CD into the system press LOAD When prompted select the desired slot 1 6 usi

S ENTRY KEYPAD To unlock the driver s door enter your five digit factory code To unlock all doors enter your five digit factory code and within five seconds press 3 4 To lock all vehicle doors simply press 7 8 and 9 0 at the same time you do not need to enter your factory code first Refer to your Owner s Guide for more information E MOON ROOF ar EquipPeD Your vehicle may be equipped with a moon roof which has an automatic one touch express opening and closing feature To open the moon roof press the SLIDE control Pull the SLIDE control to close To stop motion at any time during the one touch operation press the control a second time To vent the moon roof press the TILT control The moon roof has a built in shade which can be manually opened or closed when the glass panel is closed M SYNC ar equiprep Your vehicle may be equipped with SYNC a hands free communications and entertainment system with special phone and media features For more information please refer to the SYNC Supplement or to the SYNC section in the Navigation Supplement Please also feel free to visit www SyncMyRide com ADDITIONAL FEATURES conn M REVERSE SENSING SYSTEM IF EQUIPPED Your vehicle may be equipped with a reverse sensing system which can warn you if there is an object behind the vehicle which you may be unable to see The system will sound a warning tone that increases in frequency as the object gets c
6. andle Your vehicle is equipped with a special Grade Assist feature which is automatically activated when overdrive is turned off Grade assist helps to provide optimal gear selection and additional engine braking on hilly terrain To return to overdrive simply press the transmission control switch again M HEATED SEATS ae equiprep Press the heated seat button repeatedly to cycle through available settings of high heat 2 lights low heat 1 light and off no lights WM REAR HEATED SEATS ar equirren The heated seat control is located on the back of the front console To operate the heated seats push the right side for maximum heat and the left side for minimum heat Push again to deactivate E SECOND ROW AUTOFOLD SEAT IF EQUIPPED Press the control once to fold the seat back down and then tumble the seat forward for access to the 3rd row Note The power feature is operational when the vehicle is in Park P and the liftgate has been open for less than 10 minutes E FOLDING DOWN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEATBACK The front passenger seat back can be folded down to allow room fora long load Ensure that the seat is in the rearmost position and the head restraint is fully down prior to pulling ge the strap located on the back of the seatback Without releasing the strap push the seatback forward Move the seat as far forward as possible E SEATING E
7. e front center of the hood Use the prop rod to support the raised hood FIVE SPEED CONTROL To set the speed control press and release ON Accelerate to the desired speed Press and release the SET control Take your foot off the accelerator pedal The speed control indicator light will illuminate in the cluster To set a higher speed press and hold SET until the desired speed is reached or briefly press SET to increase the speed by small amounts To set a lower speed press and hold SET until the desired speed is reached or briefly press SET to decrease the speed by small amounts Press RSM to return to the previously set speed To turn speed control off depress the brake pedal or press OFF or CNCL Cancel SIX TILT STEERING COLUMN To adjust the steering wheel push the adjustment lever down to unlock the steering column While the lever is down tilt the steering column to your desired position While holding the steering column in place pull the lever up to its original position to lock the steering column Do not adjust while driving SEVEN STEERING WHEEL AUDIO CONTROLS Audio Steering Wheel Controls The appearance and functionality of your vehicle s steering wheel controls may vary according to your option package Refer to your Owner s Guide for a complete description of all possible options Press VOL to decrease increase the volume Press SEEK to access the previous next strong station
8. justments Satellite Radio Menu When SATELLITE RADIO MENU appears in the display if satellite radio is active press OK to enter the menu Then press A V to cycle through CATEGORY SAVE SONG DELETE SONG DELETE ALL SONGS or ENABLE DISABLE ALERTS For a full description of these features please refer to your Owner s Guide CLIMATE CONTROL Driver and I8 Passenger Side Temperature Press the blue side of the control to decrease or the red side of the control to increase the temperature setting for the driver or passenger side of the vehicle When the passenger side temperature controls are pressed dual zone will be activated where the driver and passenger can set their individual climate settings Automatic Operation Press AUTO to engage automatic temperature control Set the desired temperature The system will then automatically determine fan speed airflow location A C on or off as well as using outside or recirculated air to heat or cool the vehicle to reach the desired temperature Rear Defrost 8 GY Press to activate the rear window defroster and clear the rear window of thin ice and fog Press again to deactivate Defrost Press to distribute outside air through the windshield defroster and demister vents and to clear thin ice and fog from the windshield Air Flow Direction Control Press repeatedly to select desired airflow direction 4 A C Press to activate or deactivate air conditioning Recirculated
9. loser and will sound continuously when the object is less than 10 inches away Please refer to your Owner s Guide for more information E ADVANCETRAC Your vehicle is equipped with the AdvanceTrac stability enhancement system This system consists of Traction control which helps avoid wheel spin and loss of traction and Electronic SEE Stability Control which helps avoid skids or lateral slides These features work together to help you to maintain stability and steerability of your vehicle during a variety of road conditions The system defaults to on and the control will illuminate when turned off Refer to your Owner Guide for more information E AUXILIARY INPUT JACK The Auxiliary Input Jack allows you to plug and play auxiliary audio devices including MP3 players Press AUX repeatedly on your audio system until LINE IN appears in the display then plug in your auxilary audio device For more information please consult your Owner s Guide E USB PORT ar equipren SYNC equipped vehicles have a USB port inside the center console which allows you to plug in your media playing devices among other options For more information refer to the SYNC Supplement or the SYNC section of the Navigation Supplement E OVERDRIVE CONTROL CANCEL WITH GRADE ASSIST Drive with the vehicle in D Overdrive for the best fuel economy You can deactivate overdrive by pressing the transmission control switch on the side of the shift h

12. or CD track Press MEDIA repeatedly to scroll through all possible media sources AM F FM1 FM2 CD etc Press MUTE to mute the playing media Press again to return to the playing media SYNC Steering Wheel Controls if equipped Press ay to activate the Voice recognition system Press sa to answer a Call if equipped with SYNC Press and hold to end a call Refer to your SYNC supplement for more information Press OK to confirm menu selections Refer to your SYNC supplement if equipped for more information EIGHT MULTI FUNCTION LEVER Rotate the end of the control up to increase the speed of the wipers and rotate down to decrease the speed of the wipers Briefly press the end of the stalk for a single swipe of the wipers without washer fluid A quick push and hold results in three swipes with washer fluid while a longer push and hold activates the wash pattern for up to five seconds For better visibility your vehicle will automatically turn on your headlights if your windshield wipers and autolamps if equipped are on To operate your rear window wiper turn the rear wiper control to 1 intermittent speed 2 normal speed or off For a rear wash cycle turn the rear wiper control to the 4 position Your rear wiper blades are automatically heated to help reduce any ice build up on your rear windshield THROTTLE CONTROL TRANSMISSION LAMP The throttle control transmission light y illuminates when a powertrain
13. or an AWD fault has been detected Contact your authorized dealer as soon as possible TEN MESSAGE CENTER The message center displays important vehicle information by constantly monitoring vehicle systems You may select display features on the message center for a display of status The system will also notify you of potential vehicle problems with a display of system warnings For more information please consult your Owner s Guide ELEVEN LOW TIRE PRESSURE WARNING Your vehicle is equipped with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System TPMS This indicator light 14 illuminates when your tire pressure is low When the ignition is turned on the light will illuminate for a few seconds to ensure that the bulb is working If the light remains on or begins to flash check the tire pressure If the issue persists have the system inspected by an authorized dealer For more information on this system refer to Tire Pressure Monitoring System in your Owner s Guide WELVE SERVICE ENGINE SOON The service engine soon light J illuminates when the ignition is first turned on to check the bulb If the lamp turns solid or blinks the On Board Diagnostics System has detected a malfunction Drive in a moderate fashion avoid heavy acceleration or deceleration and have your vehicle serviced immediately THIRTEEN ABS WARNING LIGHT The ABS light 3 illuminates briefly when the ignition is turned on If the ABS light remains on or conti

15. reas that are sold with octane ratings less than 87 Your vehicle was not designed to run on E85 fuels that are blended with a maximum of 85 ethanol E ALL WHEEL DRIVE AWD ar equierep Your vehicle may be equipped with All Wheel Drive AWD The AWD system is always active and uses all four wheels to power the vehicle This increases traction enabling you to drive over terrain and road conditions that a conventional two wheel drive vehicle cannot Refer to your Owner s Guide for more information Note If your vehicle is equipped with AWD a spare tire of a different size other than the tire provided should never be used Using a different size could cause the AWD system to stop functioning and default to front wheel drive Your vehicle is not intended for off road use ESSENTIAL Information E TIRE PRESSURE Your tire pressure is properly set at the dealership according to the recommended specifications found on the Safety Compliance Certification Label or Tire Label located on the B Pillar or the edge of the driver s door Check your tire pressure at least once a month and before long trips including spare As an added safety feature your vehicle has been equipped with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System TPMS that illuminates a low tire pressure warning light tl when one or more of your tires is significantly under inflated Improperly inflated tires can affect vehicle handling and can fail suddenly possibly resulting in l
16. s are only available through an authorized dealer E POWER LIFTGATE ar equieren To open the power liftgate push the button on the instrument panel press remote entry transmitter IKT 4 control twice or push the button under the center of the license plate lamp shield For the best performance allow the power system to open the liftgate after pushing the control Manually pushing or pulling the liftgate may activate the systems obstacle detection feature and stop the power system Do not open the liftgate ina garage or other enclosed area with a low ceiling To close the liftgate press and release the control located in the left rear quarter panel or pull down the liftgate a few inches to activate power closing Keep clear of the liftgate when operating the rear switch The liftgate can be reversed with a second press on a control button or remote entry transmitter and can be manually closed at any time Your power liftgate is equipped with an obstacle detection feature If the liftgate detects an obstacle while opening the system will stop and a chime will sound three times If the liftgate detects an obstacle while closing the system will reverse to a full open position and a chime will sound three times Once an obstacle is removed the power liftgate can be operated normally Refer to your Owner s Guide for more information Warning Keep clear of the liftgate when activating the rear switch E KEYLES
