3. a Enter system setup see page 96 select Network Controller and then change the setting to Off b Connect the network cable to the add in network adapter s connectors Do not connect the network cable to the integrated connector on the back panel Install any drivers required for the card as described in the card documentation Removing a PCI Express Card 1 2 3 or 8 Follow the procedures in Before You Begin on page 47 If necessary disconnect any cables connected to the card If your card includes a retention mechanism remove the top of the retention mechanism by pressing the tab and pulling up on the top Remove the securing screw from the card bracket Gently pull back the securing tab grasp the card by its top corners and then ease it out of its connector If you are removing the card permanently install a filler bracket in the empty card slot opening If you need a filler bracket contact Dell see page 105 NOTE Installing filler brackets over empty card slot openings is necessary to maintain FCC certification of the computer The brackets also keep dust and dirt out of your computer NOTICE To connect a network cable first plug the cable into the network device and then plug it into the computer Close the computer cover reconnect the computer and devices to electrical outlets and then turn them on Remove the card s driver from the operating system Removing and Installing Parts 9
4. 50 Removing and Installing Parts Back View 22 Not present on 11 all computers 10 Removing and Installing Parts 51 www dell com support dell com parallel connector Connect a parallel device such as a printer to the parallel connector If you have a USB printer plug it into a USB connector diagnostic lights 4 Use the lights to help you troubleshoot a computer problem based on the diagnostic code For more information see Diagnostic Lights on page 37 mouse connector Plug a standard mouse into the green mouse connector Turn off the computer and any attached devices before you connect a mouse to the computer If you have a USB mouse plug it into a USB connector surround connector Use the black surround connector to attach multichannel capable speakers On computers with a sound card use the connector on the card line in connector network adapter connector Use the blue line in connector to attach a record playback device such as a cassette player CD player or VCR On computers with a sound card use the connector on the card To attach your computer to a network or broadband device connect one end of a network cable to either a network jack or your network or broadband device Connect the other end of the network cable to the network adapter connector on your computer A click indicates that the network cable has been securely attached NOTE Do not plug a telephon
