CAMERA a R CARD CAMERA CA Press the flash button 5 The setting changes with each press of the button The symbol of the selected flash mode appears on the screen amp disappears after 4 seconds 101 Recording with Flash 1 Press the PHOTO button halfway e amp appears in green In CAMERA mode the flash can be used in record pause mode when STILL REC is set to CHFINE or CHNORMAL 2 Press the PHOTO button fully The flash fires t O Do not fire the flash close to people s eyes I O Do not fire the flash at persons while they are driving O Do not fire the flash with the flash bulb covered with your hand O The practical range of the flash is approx 3 3 to 6 6 ft 1 to 2 m The range A depends upon the recording condition O The range of the flash decreases in continuous shooting mode O In normal and high speed continuous shooting mode images are captured at 2 frames second when using the flash O A pre flash is fired to obtain the subject s exposure data to adjust the main flash to the optimal intensity flash exposure compensation O For the red eye reduction mode to be effective the subject needs to look at the assist lamp OPTURA40 or flash OPTURA30 The degree of reduction depends upon the distance and on each individual O The flash will not fire in the following cases

When you press the EXP button in auto or red eye reduction auto mode When recording movies on a tape When STILL I REC is set to OFF in CAMERA mode When a shutter speed of 1 2000 is set in CAMERA mode However if flash on is selected the shutter speed becomes set to 1 1000 and the flash fires When the multi image screen is selected During auto exposure bracketing When an abnormality occurs during charging O We recommend not using the flash when the optional Wide converter or Tele converter is attached Their shadows appear on the screen O The flash mode cannot be selected when exposure is locked or after the first still image in Stitch Assist mode O The red eye reduction mode cannot be used in stitch assist mode 102 About the AF Assist Lamp When recording still images with flash the AF assist lamp white LED lights up responding to the brightness of the subject to enable the camcorder to focus more accurately The AF assist lamp lights up when you focus manually while the PHOTO button is pressed halfway and turns off after a short time The camcorder may not be able to focus even though the AF assist lamp is lighting The AF assist lamp lights up brightly Consider turning off the AF assist lamp in public places such as in restaurants or theaters Turn off the AF assist lamp in places where flash photography is prohibited Using the Optional VFL 1 Video Flash Li
