NPACKING The machine is properly packaged and is shipped completely in a crate for safe transportation When unpacking carefully inspect the crate and ensure that nothing has been damaged during transit Open the crate and check that the machine is in good condition WARNING CX501 is a very heavy machine do not over exert yourself For safe moving method use fork truck or get the help of an assistant or friend PROPER GROUNDING Grounding provides a path of least resistance for electric current to reduce the risk of electric shock CX501 is equipped with a 120 volt single phase motor which features a 3 conductor cord and a 3 prong grounded plug to fit a grounded type receptacle Make sure the cord is plugged into a properly installed and grounded power outlet To prevent electrical hazards have a qualified electrician ensure that the line is properly wired This appliance is for use on a normal 120 volt circuit and is factory equipped with a specific electric cord and plug to permit connection to a proper electric circuit Make sure that the appliance is connected to an outlet having the same configuration as the plug If an adaptor plug is used it must be attached to the metal screw of the receptacle 120 Volt Grounded Outlet Gr unding Pin Figure 1 120 Volts Outlet for CX501 WARNING Improper connection of the equipment grounding conductor can result in a risk of electric shock Check with a qua
6. chine or the machine vibrates excessively stop the machine immediately and disconnect from the power source and troubleshoot to determine the problem with your machine See page 13 for Troubleshooting READ THE MANUAL Before starting the sander make sure that you have read and understood the manual and you are familiar with the functions and safety features on this machine Failure to do so may cause serious personal injury WORK PIECE INSPECTION CX501 is designed to sand wood ONLY Do not use this machine to sand metals glass or stone etc Before sanding make sure to inspect the work piece for nails staples small pieces of stone or metal and any other foreign objects sanding the work piece with this kind of objects can tear the sanding paper For a safe cutting method always inspect your work piece carefully before cut and wear eye protection some woods with excessive finish or glue load up the sand paper and reduce its usefulness Use an abrasive cleaner to clean the sanding paper Abrasive Cleaners Model 15154 Model 15158 MAINTENANCE 1 Clean the machine daily after use 2 When the machine is not in use turn the switch off and remove the switch key 3 A build up of dust in the motor can cause motor damage Periodic cleaning of the motor is not only recommended but also mandatory for normal sander performance 4 Keep the machine and attachments clean 5 All bear

8. ed as follows 1 Make sure the arrowheads marked on the back of the sanding belt point to the direction indicator attached on the belt guard 2 Place and center the new belt on both the rollers 3 Tighten the belt tension by shifting the belt tension control lever downwards 4 Install the tilt scale the table and the belt guard back BELT TRACKING ADJUSTMENT Belt tracking means where the belt rides on the rollers The belt should always be centered on both the rollers To adjust the sanding belt tracking 1 Turn the sander on for 2 or 3 seconds and see if the belt wanders to the left or right the sanding belt is not riding the rollers on a centered path adjustment is necessary 2 Turn off the sander and disconnect the cord from the power source 3 Loosen the fix nut shown in figure 8 Fix Nut Remove the small bell cover for sanding longer workpiece Please mount It alter use Belt Tracking Adjustment Nut Figure 8 Belt Tracking adjustment 4 Check if the sanding belt is tracking forward or backward Turn the adjustment nut shown in figure 8 counter clockwise to move the belt forward Turn the adjustment nut clockwise to move the belt backwards 5 Connect the machine to the power source and turn it on Observe the blade tracking on the rollers the blade is tracking in the center the adjustment is properly done the belt is still not tracking in the cen

10. lified electrician if you are in doubt as to whether the outlet is properly grounded It is strongly recommended not to use extension cords with your CX501 Always try to position your machine close to the power source so that you do not need to use extension cords In case if you really find it necessary to use an extension cord make sure the extension cord does not exceed 50 feet in length and the cord is 14 gauge to prevent motor damage Your CX501 is equipped with a cord having 3 prongs which fits a 3 prong grounding receptacle as shown in figure 3 Do not remove the grounding prong to fit it into a 2 pronged outlet Always check with a qualified electrician if you are in doubt ON OFF POWER SWITCH CX501 is equipped with a rocker type power switch which starts and stops the motor and is located on the junction box of the motor The switch features a removable locking key to prevent unauthorized operations When the sander is not in use for a long period of time simply remove the locking key and store it in a safe place To start the sander insert the locking key and shift the switch to the left E Es Figure 2 On Off Switch IMPORTANT To prevent any type of accidental injuries make sure the power switch is in the OFF position before connecting the sander to the power source HORIZONTAL VERTICAL SANDING 1 Loosen the screw securing the sander frame to the motor bracket using a 6 mm hexagonal

12. ter repeat from step 3 to 5 STOP FENCE When the sanding platen is set for horizontal sanding the stop fence should be used to prevent the work piece flying out while sanding Install the stop fence to the sanding platen using the two lock knobs 10 DUST COLLECTION CX501 features two dust ports 2 amp 2 3 8 to connect to a dust collector When connecting to a dust collector use a proper sized hose and make sure all the connections are sealed tightly Figure 9 Dust ports INSTALLING SANDING DISC PAPER CX501 features a 12 sanding disc Remove the disc table by loosening the screws securing it to the sander and remove the old sanding paper For easy sanding disc installation and removal the 12 disc features Velcro pad and accepts sanding papers with Velcro backing When installing the disc simply attach the Velcro backing sand paper to the disc and press it to make sure the sanding paper is properly attached Figure 10 Installing the sand paper IMPORTANT Make sure you have done the tracking adjustment and the belt is centered on both the rollers before you start the sander for a test run See page 10 for details on belt tracking TEST RUN Once you have assembled your machine completely it is then time for a test run to make sure that the machine works properly and is ready for operation During the test run if there is any unusual noise coming from the ma
