THE CHANNEL METER PANEL Step 1 Connect the 5 pin XLR USB cable part no AMIX119 A from the female XLR on the rear of the Console to the male XLR on the rear of the Meter Panel CONNECTING THE MAIN METER PANEL Step 1 Step 2 CONFIGURATION Connect the 5 pin XLR USB cable part no AMIX119 A from the female XLR on the rear of the Console to the male XLR on the rear of the Meter Panel Connect the two 3 pin female XLRs on the rear of the Meter Panel to a balanced analogue line level source The inputs feed the two analogue meters If the Meter Panels have been purchased separately from the Console the Console must be configured to establish communication with the Meter Panels via USB Follow these steps to configure the Meter Panel 1 Connect the Meter Panel prior to turning on the Console 2 Turn on the Console During start up Windows will detect the new Meter Panel hardware Install the USB drivers as described below 3 Run the console configuration utility Cons con to add the Meter Panel to the Console configuration 4 Finally run the FMC calibration utility to calibrate the Meter Panel LCDs USB Installation The USB driver for the Meter Panel must be installed the first time it is connected to the system Step 1 Step 2 Cons con Ensure the Meter Panels are connected to the Console and that the Console is running During boot up the Windows Found New Hardware dialog box will appear Click the B
5. mounting channel at the top of the console above the panels The meter units are fitted with an adjustable angle bracket at the rear of the unit This bracket allows the meter to be mounted in one of three viewing angles One simple cable connection between the Console and Channel Meter Panel using the five pin XLR cable supplied is also required The Main Meter unit includes two extra balanced audio inputs for the analogue meters Tools Required e 1x 2 pozi drive screw driver MECHANICAL INSTALLATION Step 1 Carefully unpack the DREAM Console Meter Panel Each channel meter unit is associated with a particular fader panel The units are numbered from 1 to 4 Unit number 1 must be located above the left hand fader panel The units are installed from 1 to 4 left to right The Main Meter unit is normally located above the editor and selection panels Step 2 Select the viewing angle by removing the angle bracket at the rear of the unit or by reversing the bracket if necessary Step 3 Carefully locate the front extrusion on the underside of the meter unit into the universal mounting channel on the top of the con sole Make sure the extrusion latches into the channel to prevent the meter unit from moving No bracket Low bracket High bracket Angle bracket at rear reverses for tilt adjustment Extrusion at front secures meter unit Figure 1 Meter Mounting Fittings INTRODUCTION 2 3 CONNECTING

ONTENTS NOTES l 2 Chapter 1 Introduction INTRODUCTION The DREAM Console Main Meter and Channel Meter Panels provide high resolu tion signal level metering for the Fairlight DREAM Console The DREAM Console is part of a new family of products from Fairlight which marries together QDC processing with an ergonomic physical control surface in a combination that has a significant impact on productivity and efficiency The DREAM Console offers a flexible solution to a range of audio production and post production tasks ABOUT THIS MANUAL The DREAM Console Meter Panels Installation Manual provides the information necessary to install and operate the meter panels with a DREAM Console This manual should be used in conjunction with the DREAM Console Installation and User Manual to obtain complete instruction in the use and installation of the com plete system This manual is designed to familiarize sound editors and engineers with the facilities provided by the DREAM Console Meter Panels The terminology and concepts used in this manual assume a reasonable knowledge regarding audio principles and studio procedures USING THE CONSOLE MAIN METER PANEL The DMP2 Main Meter Panel includes eight 55mm multi segment bargraph LED signal level meters plus eight LED meter legend windows The DMP2 also includes two high quality analogue VU level meters which may be connected to external an alogue sources The Main Meter Panel displays the si
9. gnal level of each element ofthe Main bus The name of each element is displayed in the LCD window below each bargraph The number of active bargraphs is determined by the user defined format of the Main bus For example if the Main bus format is stereo only LEFT and RIGHT bus el ement meters are displayed If the Main bus format is 7 1 all eight elements are dis played These are LEFT INNER LEFT CENTRE INNER RIGHT RIGHT LEFT SURROUND RIGHT SURROUND BOOM The Console Main Meter Panel displays peak program level Peak Hold Reset Signal levels in excess of OdB full scale are indicated by a fixed orange peak hold dis play To reset the peak hold display press the Meter Sets key in the Fader Sets sec tion of the DREAM Channel Select Panel USING THE CONSOLE CHANNEL METER PANEL The DMPI Channel Meter Panel includes twelve 55mm multi segment bargraph LED signal level meters The Channel Meter Panel displavs the signal level of the feeds associated with the faders in the current fader set Each meter is associated with a single fader panel Meters display feed levels only Ifa bus or link group is included in a fader set those meters will show no signal Use the fader set kevs to displav the feeds vou wish to meter The Console Channel Meter Panel displavs peak program level INTRODUCTION NOTES 2 2 Chapter 2 Installation INTRODUCTION The DREAM Meter Panels are designed to be mounted directly on to the universal
