1. Due to an FCC requirement analog signals will no longer be broadcast over the air in the United States after June 12 2009 If you wish to view television signals through an antenna after this date you must have an antenna capable of receiving digital signals Cable television will not be affected The volume is too loud or the television audio makes a crackling sound a If the television audio makes a crackling sound when the volume is turned up the volume is too loud Press the Volume increase or decrease button on the remote control until the volume level is 80 percent Once the volume reaches 80 percent adjust the volume by pressing the Volume but tons on the console only The volume cannot be turned up a If the volume cannot be turned up the volume may have been adjusted with the remote control Press the Volume increase or decrease button on the remote control until the volume level is 80 percent Once the volume reaches 80 percent adjust the volume by pressing the Volume buttons on the console only If there is no sound coming from the television make sure that the television audio is not muted If there is no sound coming from the television make sure that the audio wire is not plugged into the audio jack on the console PROBLEM The television needs to be cleaned SOLUTION a UNPLUG THE POWER CORD To clean the television wipe the television and screen using a soft cloth with a small amount of soft d

4. position your self near the center of the walking belt For the console to display heart rate readings the user must be within arm s length of the console The chest pulse sensor is designed to work with people who have normal heart rhythms Heart rate reading problems may be caused by medical conditions such as premature ventricular contrac tions tachycardia bursts and arrhythmia The operation of the chest pulse sensor can be affected by magnetic interference caused by high power lines or other sources If it is suspected that this is a problem try relocating the treadmill 14 OPERATION AND ADJUSTMENT THE PRE LUBRICATED WALKING BELT Your treadmill features a walking belt coated with high performance lubricant IMPORTANT Never apply sil icone spray or other substances to the walking belt or the walking platform Such substances will deteriorate the walking belt and cause excessive wear HOW TO PLUG IN THE POWER CORD DANGER Improper connection of the equipment grounding conductor can result in an increased risk of electric shock Check with a qualified electrician or service man if you are in doubt as to whether the product is properly grounded Do not modify the plug provided with the product if it will not fit the outlet have a proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician Your treadmill like any other type of sophisticated electronic equipment can be seriously damaged by sudden
5. rate The FreeMotion Fitness Test measures your fit ness level on a scale of 1 to 10 The FreeMotion Fitness Test ends after either 28 minutes or when you reach a certain heart rate 1 Put on the chest pulse sensor To use a fitness test you must wear the chest pulse sensor or use the handgrip pulse sensor Note For best results you should wear the chest pulse sensor 2 Insert the key into the console See step 1 on page 17 3 Select a fitness test workout To select a fitness test workout press the Fitness Tests button repeatedly until the name of the de sired fitness test appears in the display Press the Enter button to select the desired work out Select your age and then your weight using the Increase and Decrease buttons next to the Enter button Press the Enter button after each selection You need to enter your age and weight only once per exercise session Note To use the Ebbeling Fitness Test you must also enter your gender 4 Press the Start Stop button to start the workout A moment after you press the Start Stop button the treadmill will automatically adjust to the first 22 speed and incline settings of the fitness test Begin walking on the treadmill Note For the most accu rate results do not hold the handrails during a fit ness test workout During the workout the speed and incline of the treadmill will periodically change The speed set ting or the incline setting will appear in the
6. the name the maximum incline setting the maxi mum speed setting and the duration of the work out The display will also show a profile of the speed settings of the workout Press the Enter button to select the desired work out Select your age your weight and the workout duration using the Increase and Decrease buttons next to the Enter button Press the Enter button after each selection You need to enter your age and weight only once per exercise session Note To use the Interval workouts you must also enter your minimum and maximum speed settings using the Precision Quick Touch Speed buttons or the Speed increase and decrease buttons 3 Press the Start Stop button to start the workout A moment after you press the Start Stop button the treadmill will automatically adjust to the first speed and incline settings of the workout Hold the handrails and begin walking Each workout is divided into segments One speed setting and one incline setting are programmed for each segment Note The same speed and or incline setting may be programmed for consecutive seg ments During the workout the profile will show your progress The flashing segment of the profile repre sents the current segment of the workout The height of the flashing segment indi cates the speed setting for the current segment At the end of each segment a series of tones will sound and the next segment of the profile will begin to flash If a new spee

8. 155 145 145 138 130 125 120 115 140 130 125 115 Y 125 118 110 103 10 105 95 90 20 30 40 50 60 70 80 To find the proper intensity level find your age at the bottom of the chart ages are rounded off to the near est ten years The three numbers listed above your age define your training zone The lowest number 16 the heart rate for fat burning the middle number 1 the heart rate for maximum fat burning and the highest number 1 the heart rate for aerobic exercise 41 Burning Fat To burn fat effectively you must exer cise at a low intensity level for a sustained period of time During the first few minutes of exercise your body uses carbohydrate calories tor energy Only after the first few minutes of exercise does your body begin to use stored fat calories for energy your goal is to burn fat adjust the intensity of your exercise until your heart rate is near the lowest number in your training zone For maximum fat burning exercise with your heart rate near the middle number in your training zone Aerobic Exercise If your goal is to strengthen your cardiovascular system you must perform aerobic exer cise which is activity that requires large amounts of oxygen for prolonged periods of time For aerobic ex ercise adjust the intensity of your exercise until your heart rate is near the highest number in your training zone WORKOUT GUIDELINES Warming Up Start with 5 to 10 minutes o
9. 75 ohm terminal on the treadmill frame near the power cord 75 Ohm Terminal 13 HOW TO USE THE CHEST PULSE SENSOR HOW TO PUT ON THE CHEST PULSE SENSOR The chest pulse sensor consists of two components the chest strap and the sensor unit Sensor Unit Insert the tab on one end of the chest strap into the hole in one end of the sensor unit as shown in the inset drawing above The tab should be flush with the front of the sensor unit Next wrap the chest pulse sensor around your chest and attach the other end of the chest strap to the sensor unit Adjust the length of the chest strap if neces sary The chest pulse sensor should be under your clothes tight against your skin and as high under the pectoral muscles or breasts as is comfortable Make sure that the logo on the sensor unit is facing forward and is right side up Pull the sensor unit away from your body a few inches and locate the two electrode areas on the inner side the electrode areas are covered by shallow ridges Using saline solution such as saliva or contact lens so lution wet both electrode areas Return the sensor unit to a position against your chest CARE AND MAINTENANCE Thoroughly the chest pulse sensor after each use The chest pulse sensor is activated when the electrode areas are wetted and the chest pulse sen sor is put

CALS HOUR MANUAL CONTROL 1 HJ HEART RATE CONTROL RANDOM WORKOUTS CUSTOM WORKOUTS PERSONAL TRAINER WORKOUTS INTERACTIVE TRAINER WORKOUTS cu INCLINE FEATURES OF THE CONSOLE The treadmill console offers an impressive array of features designed to make your workouts more effec tive and enjoyable When you use the manual mode of the console you can change the speed and incline of the treadmill with the touch of a button As you exer cise the console will display continuous exercise feed back You can even measure your heart rate using the handgrip pulse sensor or the chest pulse sensor see page 14 for information about the chest pulse sensor In addition the console features fourteen personal trainer workouts Each preset workout automatically controls the speed and incline of the treadmill as it guides you through an effective exercise session The console also offers twelve interactive trainer work outs that allow you to customize your workout The in teractive trainer workouts include three heart rate workouts that control the speed and incline of the treadmill to keep your heart rate near the target heart rate setti

Walking Platform Remove the twelve 3 8 x 1 5 8 Bolts 5 and the 3 8 Locknuts 34 Slide the Rear and Front Platform Brackets 47 48 off the Walking Platform 44 Slide the Rear and Front Platform Brackets 47 48 onto the new Walking Platform 44 Follow steps 1 6 in reverse order you are replacing the Walking Belt 46 use the new Walking Belt Turn the 5 16 x 2 1 2 Bolts 7 see step 5 clockwise four times only Go to step 7 34 7 The tension of the Walking Belt 46 now needs to be ad justed Center the Walking Belt if necessary see page 38 Then step onto the foot rails insert the key into the con sole and press the Start button Hold the handrails and gently press one foot against the moving Walking Belt If the Walking Belt stops moving remove the key from the con sole unplug the power cord and turn the two 5 16 x 2 1 2 Bolts 7 clockwise one time Continue to test the ten sion of the Walking Belt until the Walking Belt no longer slips Make sure to keep the Walking Belt centered If the Idler Roller 63 stops moving do not further tighten the Bolts please see the back cover of this manual 35 SIX MONTH PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE RECORD Photocopy this form and use it to record the preventive maintenance performed on the treadmill Each copy of the form can be used for six months 26 weeks When maintenance is performed write the date in the appropriate spaces Make sure to perform
12. auto 4 3 or wide image as the display format Note The auto display format is only available when viewing ATSC digital television Press the Pict button repeatedly to select standard dy namic soft or personal as the image mode Press the Audio button repeatedly to select standard music movie or personal as the audio mode HOW TO REPLACE THE BATTERIES IN THE REMOTE CONTROL To replace the batteries first locate the battery cover on the back of the remote control Push down lightly on the bat tery cover with your thumb and slide off the battery cover Next remove the old batteries from the remote control and insert two new AAA batteries Make sure to in sert the batteries as shown in the drawing Then slide the battery cover onto the remote control 27 HOW TO ADJUST THE TELEVISION SETTINGS You must use your remote control to adjust television settings Press the Menu button to enter the main menu or to return to a previous menu Press the Exit button to exit a menu Press the Channel CH in crease and decrease buttons to navigate up and down in a menu and the Volume VOL increase and de crease buttons on your remote control to navigate right and left 1 Press the Menu button to enter the main menu To select one of the icons across the top of the screen press the Volume increase Contrast and decrease but tons on your remote control until the de sired icon appears larger tha
13. display to alert you before each change IMPORTANT The Speed and Incline buttons will not function during a fitness test workout Note If you press the Start Stop button during the fitness test the fitness test will end When the workout ends the walking belt will slow to a stop and your fitness level or VO2 max will ap pear in the display If your pulse is not detected during the workout the words CHECK HEART RATE MONITOR will ap pear in the display and the speed of the treadmill may automatically decrease If your pulse is still not detected the fitness test will be aborted See page 14 for information about the chest pulse sensor Select a display mode and monitor your progress with the display See step 4 on page 20 Note The fitness tests will display your fitness level instead of your exercise intensity in METs The console may display a W when you are warming up or a C when you are cooling down Turn on the fan if desired See step 7 on page 19 When you are finished exercising remove the key from the console See step 8 on page 19 HOW USE A HEART RATE WORKOUT 1 4 CAUTION If you have heart prob lems or if you are over 60 years of age and have been inactive do not use the pulse work outs If you are taking medication regularly consult your physician to find out whether the medication will affect your exercise heart rate Put on the chest pulse sensor To use a fitness tes

18. voltage changes in your home s power Voltage surges spikes and noise interference can result from weather conditions or from other appliances being turned on or off To decrease the possibility of your treadmill being damaged always use a surge suppressor with your treadmill see drawing 1 at the right To purchase a surge suppressor see the back cover of this manual and order part number 146148 or see your local electronics store Use only a single outlet surge suppressor that is UL 1449 listed as a transient voltage surge sup pressor TVSS The surge suppressor must have a UL suppressed voltage rating of 400 volts or less and a minimum surge dissipation of 450 joules The surge suppressor must be electrically rated for 120 volts AC and 15 amps There must be a moni toring light on the surge suppressor to indicate whether it is functioning properly Failure to use a properly functioning surge suppressor could result in damage to the control system of the treadmill If the control system is damaged the walking belt may slow accelerate or stop unexpectedly which may result in a fall and serious injury This product must be grounded If it should malfunc tion or break down grounding provides a path of least resistance for electric current to reduce the risk of elec tric shock This product is equipped with a cord having an equipment grounding conductor and a grounding plug Plug the power cord into a surge suppressor an

Note The console will display speed and distance in either miles or kilometers For simplicity all instruc tions in this section refer to miles 17 HOW TO USE THE MANUAL MODE 1 Insert the key into the console See HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER at the left The incline will automatically rise the maximum in cline level and then return to the minimum incline level Select the manual mode Each time the key is inserted the manual mode will be selected If you have selected a workout press any of the workout buttons repeatedly until zeros ap pear in the display DISTANCE Start the walking belt and adjust the speed To start the walking belt press the Start Stop but ton or the Speed increase button If you press the Start Stop button or the Speed in crease button the walking belt will begin to move at 1 mph As you exercise change the speed of the walking belt as desired by pressing the Speed increase and decrease buttons Each time you press a button the speed setting will change by 0 1 mph if you hold down the button the speed setting will change in increments of 0 5 mph If you press one of the numbered Precision Quick Touch Speed buttons the walking belt will gradu ally change speed until it reaches the selected speed setting To select a speed setting that in cludes a decimal such as 3 5 mph press two numbered buttons in succession For example to select a speed setting of 3 5 mph pr
22. a fan speed or to turn off the fan Note If the fan is on when the walking belt stops the fan will automatically turn off after a few minutes When you are finished exercising remove the key from the console Step onto the foot rails press the Start Stop button remove the key from the console and put it se cure place The incline will automatically rise the maximum incline level and then return to the mini mum incline level When you are finished using the treadmill switch the reset off circuit breaker to the off position and unplug the power cord IMPORTANT If you do not do this the treadmill s electrical compo nents may wear prematurely 19 HOW USE A PERSONAL TRAINER WORKOUT 1 2 Insert the key into the console See step 1 on page 17 Select one of the personal trainer workouts To select a per sonal trainer work out press the Interval Workouts button the Terrain Workouts button or the Random Workouts button repeatedly until the name of the desired workout appears in the dis play Interval workouts use speed settings to pro vide a personalized workout Terrain workouts use speed and incline settings to simulate an actual walking experience Random workouts use preset speed and incline settings Note To use a Walk Run workout see page 21 L cc 1 111 INCLINE 35 0 PROGRAM TIME MAH SPEED 30 00 When workout is selected the display will show

57. page 28 To use the maintenance mode see page 30 To use the stereo sound system see page 30 HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER IMPORTANT If the treadmill has been exposed to cold temperatures allow it to warm to room tem perature before turning on the power If you do not do this you may damage the console displays or other electrical components Plug in the power cord see page 15 Next locate the reset off cir cuit breaker on the treadmill frame near the power cord Make sure that the circuit breaker 15 in the reset position Next stand on the foot rails of the treadmill Locate the clip at tached to the key see the drawing at the right and slide the clip securely onto the waistband of your clothes Then insert the key into the console After a moment the displays will light IMPORTANT In an emergency situation the key can be pulled from the console causing the walking belt to slow to a stop Test the clip by carefully taking a few steps backward if the key 15 not pulled from the console adjust the position of the clip IMPORTANT If there is a sheet of clear plastic on the face of the console remove the plastic To pre vent damage to the walking platform wear clean athletic shoes while using the treadmill The first time the treadmill is used observe the alignment of the walking belt and center the walking belt if necessary see page 38
