3. 1 LCD Contrast Allows adjustment of the LCD contrast DAB and T DMB I Q Operation Mode Modus 3 supports Digital Audio Broadcast DAB derived multimedia broadcast standards by I Q streaming that is playing pre recorded and Q RF digital samples through it s A D converters and RF up converter I Q samples can be 8 or 16 bit at a clock rate of 2 048 Mbit s To enter I Q mode the System screen should be entered and the System mode selected this should be set to I Q player and then OK Chlimetric Modus3 The right scroll button should then be selected to move to the I Q Stream screen This gives access to the I Q streaming controls CELLMetric Modus3z 22 O Source Source of the stored I Q data O Filename Name of the stored Q data file O Sample rate The clock sample data this is user selectable with the rotary knob but is usually 2 048 Mbit s OF Bit Depth 8 or 16 bit samples O Headroom The headroom required to prevent RF clipping of the transmitted signal For DAB this is usually 16dB Modus 3 I Q Test Patterns The IQ mode allows simple predefined test patterns to be output These are activated by choosing the Pattern source and selecting a pattern type Currently a Carrier wave pattern type is available which consists of a full scale tone at the centre frequency Modus 3 1 Q file format The Modus I Q file format is a binary file with each 4 bytes representing one I Q pair which may be

13. ame of the band BandBottom BandTop These values in Hz define the range of the band If the frequency that Modus is currently tuned to falls within these limits Modus considers the frequency to be within the particular band ChannelFrom ChannelTo Modus is normally tuned to the centre of a channel these values indicate the extend of the channel below and above the actual tuned frequency in Hz lt Channel Name Ch21 Frequency 474000000 Offset 166666 gt This is the definition of an individual channel There may be as many channels within a band as necessary subject to Modus memory constraints 25 Name This text identifies the name of the channel Frequency This is the centre frequency of the channel in Hz Offset This is an optional attribute not normally needed It specifies an offset to be applied from the centre frequency In the case shown the channel will be displayed as Ch21 167kHz and the frequency will be 473 833334MHz CONFIG XML If a file called CONFIG XML is found on the Compact Flash when Modus3 is turned on it will be read and used to set the initial configuration of the unit Any parameters missing or badly formed will be set to their default values Strict adherence to XML standards is necessary so for example inverted commas around attribute values are always needed All Elements must be closed eg lt Configuration gt Note that everything in this file is case sensitive In genera
14. arameters This config XML file stored on the compact flash card or hard disk and is associated with an individual transport stream or I Q data file Its function is to preset the modulation parameters required to correctly play and modulate the associated data file The config XML files is parsed by the Modus 3 when the unit powers up or the compact flash card is inserted into the compact flash slot at the front of the Modus 3 or the file to be played is selected Appendix A contains the syntax for XML programming The simplest way to generate the file is to use the Modus 3 to generate it by setting the desired modulation parameters from the local Ul and then going to the Housekeeping Screen Save settings will write an XML file to the compact flash disk This can then be edited on a PC using a commercially available XML editor A Please Note that up to software release 1 11 6 only the XML Auto Configuration file on the Compact Flash card is parsed XML files stored on the hard disk will not be parsed at startup From Software Release 1 14 0 multiple XML cofig files can exist on both compact flash and hard disk and are associated with individual transport stream or I Q files O Setting the frequency raster of the modulator This data can be stored on the compact flash card and will be parsed at start up The frequency data on the compact flash card will override the frequency raster stored in the Modus 3 O Calibration data to linearise the dig
