Special Effects Adding Special Effects Special effects allow you to change the colour brightness contrast sharpness and transparency of any element or background in your frame This can help add dramatic effect to the scene or role play you are creating You can access the Special Effects Palette through the Layers Palette From the Composition Window click on the Layers Tab to open the Layers Palette oT om i Click on the blue tab at the bottom of the element or layer that you wish to add the Open Special special effect to This displays the Special Effects Palette Effects e Colour Click on your chosen colour in the colour wheel The element in the frame is displayed in the Colour Wheel new colour e Brightness Click on the red slider on the Brightness brightness bar and drag it to the right to make the element lighter or to the left to make the element Transparency darker e Transparency Click on the red slider on the Bae transparency bar and drag it to the right e Contrast Click on the red slider on the contrast bar and drag it to the right to increase the Sharpness contrast or to the left to reduce the contrast e Sharpness Click on the red slider on the Return to default sharpness bar and drag it to the left settings Special Effects Palette Removing Special Effects You can undo any special effects you have added to an element or background by clicking on the Default Settings button in the

To move a layer up and down in the layer stack of the Layers Palette click on the layer in the palette and keeping the mouse button pressed down slide the mouse up or down over the other layers in the stack In the Composition Window the selected layer moves in front of or behind other objects as you move through the different layers in the palette When the layer is at the desired position within the stack release the mouse button 2 Select the element within the Composition Window that you wish to move and press Ctrl and the left square bracket key to move the layer back or Ctrl and the right square bracket key to move the layer forward 3 You can also use The Manipulator see Section 3 Manipulating Characters in 3D Deleting Layers O All layers with the exception of backgrounds can be deleted by clicking on the small _ delete button on the layer in the Layers Palette Note that you can also use the Layers Palette to alter the colour contrast sharpness and transparency of any character prop or Delete Button background You can also link items in different layers so that you can move and scale them together These are detailed later in Section 4 Advanced Features Annotation Speech and Thought Bubbles Once all your characters and props are in position you may like to attach thought or speech bubbles to them To add a speech or thought bubble to a character or prop first click on the item in the Compo

You can switch off the printing of storyboards option from page 3 of the Options screen Click on the printing button to remove the orange dot from the centre thereby disabling the option Clicking once more will re enable the option Load and Save Saving QuickTime Movies If you do not want to be able to save Kar2ouche storyboards as QuickTime movies you can disable this option by opening page 3 of the Options screen and clicking on the Save Movie button to remove the orange dot from the centre of the button Clicking once more on the button will re enable the option Autosave Options By default Kar2ouche autosaves the current storyboard at regular intervals while you are using the software and also when you exit the program You can enable disable this option by opening page of the Options screen and clicking on the button to the left of storyboard Autosave You can specify a location to which the Autosave storyboard will be saved and you can specify different time intervals for which the autosave will occur Click on the file button on the right of the storyboard Autosave option to display the open browser window browse to the location of the file then click OK Change the number in minutes to the right of the frequency option to select your chosen times between autosaves Storyboard Load Save path By default Kar2ouche will open the My Storyboards folder on your computer when you Save or Load a storyboard If you wish t
7. buttons to browse to the item that you wish to lock and click on its image to lock it Locked items are marked with a red cross and are not visible when the palettes are displayed from the Composition Screen NB Locking a character background or prop will not remove it from existing storyboards To unlock a character click on the image in the window to remove the red cross from it Reser SUON If you wish to select the majority of elements in a palette it can be quicker to select all the elements by clicking on the Select All button Next de select one by one those elements you wish to keep in view by clicking on Select All each element To de select all the elements click on the Reset button Saving Locked Content You can save the locked characters props and backgrounds with your storyboard so that each time the storyboard is opened the user sees only the non locked palette elements To save locked characters with the storyboard go to page 2 of the Options screen Ensure that the Save Locked Content option is enabled it is enabled when there is an orange dot inside the circular button on the left If it is not you can enable it by clicking inside the circular button so that the orange dot appears Special Effects You can switch off the option for adding special effects and or for showing special effects already added to a frame This option is found on page 2 of the Options screen Click on the Edit Special Effects and or P

To switch off sound when the storyboard is played open page 2 of the Options screen then click on the Play Sounds button so that the orange dot in its centre disappears Clicking once more on this button switches the storyboard sounds back on Playback amp Printing Showing and Changing Transitions You can switch off the option that allows selection of different frame transitions and or stop Kar2ouche showing any transitions attached to a frame when the frame is played Both of these settings are found on page 2 of the Options Click on the edit frame transitions and or play frame transitions buttons to remove the orange dot from the centre of the button thereby disabling the option Clicking once more enables the option Start Full Screen Switching this option on means that whenever Kar2ouche is opened it will open in Full Screen mode rather than Windowed mode To switch off this feature click on the Start Full Screen option to remove the orange dot from the centre of the button thereby disabling the option Clicking once more enables the option again Toggle Full Screen At the top right hand side of the Kar2ouche interface are three buttons which allow you to switch between Full Screen mode and Windowed mode If you wish to disable this facility click on the orange dot in the centre of the button to the left of the Toggle Full Screen option Clicking once more enables this feature again Kar2ouche User Guide Page 41 Printing

Window use the Quick Palette click the Backgrounds Palette Tab once to display six backgrounds and click again to display twelve backgrounds A third click on the Backgrounds Tab returns to displaying just one background To change your chosen background at any time open the Backgrounds Palette and click on a new background Adding your own Custom Background You are not limited to using the backgrounds provided with each Content Title You can bring in your own scanned images or digital photographs Click on the orange open file button at the bottom of the Backgrounds Palette Navigate to the file you want to use as a background This must be in one of the following formats Open Tilg tga jpg bmp See Section 4 Advanced Features for more information Adding Characters To add a character click on the green Characters Tab to open the Characters Palette Each of the Kar2ouche Content Title has a variety of characters for you to choose from These are shown one at a time in the palette window Click on the Characters Palette Tab again to display four characters and again to display sixteen Click on the green arrows beneath the character to scroll through all the available characters Characters Tab Kar2ouche User Guide Page 9 When you have chosen the character you would like to add to your frame click on the image in the Palette Window and keeping the mouse pressed down drag the image into the Composition Window When
13. add or remove an individual frame to or from the selection press down the Control key PC users Apple key Mac Users whilst clicking on the frame s thumbnail Deselected frames are outlined in turquoise To copy the set of selected frames click on one of the selected frames drag it to the bead button where you want the copies to appear and release the button The copied frames will appear to the right of the red bead NB If you drag your selection onto the destination frame rather than its bead the selected frames will overwrite the equivalent number of subsequent frames in the storyboard Opening Frames To open any frame in the Composition Window click on the thumbnail of the frame in the Filmstrip at the top of the screen The selected frame will open up in the Composition Window and the thumbnail is outlined in red in the storyboard to indicate it is the currently selected frame Deleting Frames To delete a frame you can click on the thumbnail of the frame in the Filmstrip at the top of the screen and drag it to the waste bin attached to the bottom of the storyboard scroll bar When the closed hand is over the bin the bin lid opens Release the button to drop the frame into the bin Alternatively right click PC users Control click Mac users on the frame that you want to delete in the storyboard The copy paste delete pop up will appear Select delete and the frame will be removed from the storyboard You can also dele
14. boxes and Caption windows To enable this feature click on the circular button on the left of the Copy Paste images icon so that an orange button appears in the centre You can switch this option off again by clicking on the circular button a second time so that the orange dot disappears Text formatting You can change the size colour and style of the fonts used in Kar2ouche for all windows bubbles and tooltips when they are first created On page 3 of the Options screen the last three options are the Window font used in the Caption and Text Audio Windows Bubble font used in speech and thought bubbles and text boxes and Tooltip font The current fonts are shown in the white boxes on the right of each font type Click on the folder icon on the right of the font you wish to edit to display the font settings box Select a new font size style and colour You can also specify whether you want the text to be underlined or struck through A preview of the new settings is shown in the Sample Box Click OK when you are happy with the new settings to return to the Options list You are also able to change fonts size and colour of text using the Text Manipulator see Section 4 Advanced Features NB Changing the universal font in the Option Screen will not overwrite changes made with the Text Manipulator but will set the default for any new text entered Custom Background loading You can change the settings for adding custom backgroun
15. can copy characters props and other items from one frame to another in two different ways In the Composition Screen click on the frame in the storyboard which contains the element s you want to copy to another frame Click on the element you want to copy and drag it to the frame in the Filmstrip where you want the copy to appear The copy is exactly the same size as the original and appears in the same position relative to the frame The frame containing the copy is now the current frame You can copy as many items as you like in this manner Linked elements will be copied together Kar2ouche User Guide Page 26 2 Drag the element from the current frame then drop it onto a bead in the storyboard A new frame is inserted into the storyboard which is blank apart from the element you added to it Adding Transitions Between Frames You can add transitions between your frames to change the appearance when you play back your storyboards in the Presentation Screen For example frames can sweep in from the top bottom left or right of the screen or fade from one to the other You can use the same transition effects for all frames in your storyboard or vary them To view the Transitions menu open the Presentation Screen by clicking on the orange Presentation tab then click on the Transitions button The default setting is for the whole frame to change with no transition effect marked as a cut with a pair of scissors To change a particu

17. from To select a new pose click the Next and Previous arrows next to the Pose button on the Manipulator The selected item in the frame adopts each pose as you scroll through them As above the character or prop can also have its pose changed by positioning the cursor over the Pose button pressing the mouse button and keeping it pressed down while sliding the mouse to the left and right Release the mouse button when the character is in the chosen pose Layering You may wish to move an item in front of or behind other items or backgrounds in your frame You can change the layer order using the Manipulator Click on the element in the Composition Window you wish to move forward or backward and click on the up and down arrows on either side of the Manipulator s Layer button to move the selected layer back or forward See Section 4 Advanced Features for more detail on using layers Scaling To change the size of the selected item click on the blue Scale button and keep the button pressed down whilst rolling the mouse towards you to increase size or away from you to decrease size When you have scaled the item to the required size release the mouse button Closing Clicking on the Close button on the lower left hand branch can close the Manipulator Deleting You can delete a character or prop by dragging it into the waste bin Alternatively you can delete the selected item by using the Delete button on the lower right hand branch of
18. the Manipulator As mentioned before you are able to alter whether a prop or a character appears in front of or behind another element in the frame This is done using layers Each background character prop or other element you add to your frame is placed in a separate layer Kar2ouche automatically arranges layers so that items added last appear on top of in front of those added earlier Some backgrounds are made up Kar2ouche User Guide Page 11 of more than one layer this allows you to position characters behind parts of the background behind a table for example or partly hidden in the shadows Using the Layers Palette You can check and also change the layer order of the elements in your frame by using the Layers Palette Open the Layers Palette by clicking on the Layers Tab in the Composition Screen The Layers Palette shows the order of all the different elements you have put into your frame items at the top of the Layers Palette are further back in the frame than those at the bottom Layers Tab Different layers represent each element in the frame Character and Prop layers are pink and Background layers are green If you have many layers in your frame you will not be able to see them all at once and the arrows at the bottom of the layers tab will become green indicating you can use them to scroll through the layers There are three ways to move a particular layer back and forward within the Composition Window

20. user requirements Kar2ouche User Guide Page 37 5 OPTIONS There is a wide range of settings and configuration options within Kar2ouche software that can be tailored to suit the way in which you want to use Kar2ouche Many of the features that have been described previously can be switched on or off or modified to suit individual requirements Changes can be made on individual machines or over a whole network depending on installation For example if your computer does not have facilities for recording sound you may wish to disable Kar2ouche s sound recording controls It may be that you want to restrict the number of characters that are viewed at one time or change the font settings within the tool tips this can all be done within the Options Screen For a list of recommend network settings please visit the support section of our website www ImmersiveEducation com The Options Screen To display the Options Screen go to the Utilities Screen by clicking on the red Utilities Tab and click on the green Options button at the bottom left This provides three different pages of options that can be amended as required Access these pages by clicking on the three green Page Tabs underneath the padlock on the left side of the screen Unlock Storyboard Load Path Fi MyStorytosrds Switch option on or off Storyboard Save Path oe a Page Storyboard Autosave My Storyboaras ttis S Select new file Frequency Minutes srl p
21. words You can edit and format text in the Caption Window as you would in a word processor A small copy thumbnail of the frame is shown in the Filmstrip at the top of the screen Later you will learn how to add more frames to the storyboard and play them back in sequence If there is more than one thumbnail in the Filmstrip then the one you have open in the Composition Window will be outlined in red Undo and Redo nco At any stage you can select Undo or Redo from the buttons in the middle of the Composition Screen Redo You can also undo an action by pressing Ctrl and Z on the keyboard You can redo an action by pressing Ctrl and Y on the keyboard If you press Ctrl and Z and hold the keys down you can undo a whole series of actions in one go Hold down Ctrl and Y to re do a whole series of actions Adding a Background Each Kar2ouche Content Title contains a large selection of different backgrounds which you can select and add to your frame Some backgrounds present the same scene but from different camera angles and with different lighting conditions To select a background open the Backgrounds Palette by clicking on the blue Backgrounds Tab Use the green forward and back arrows to scroll through the available backgrounds When you have found a suitable background click on the image in the palette to insert the background into your frame If you would like to see more than one background displayed at a time in the Palette
22. you can turn this into a storyboard by creating a new blank frame or copying an existing one You can also move edit and delete any of your frames Adding New Frames Within each of the different screens except the Activity Screen you will see that there is a Filmstrip running along the top of the screen This shows thumbnails of all the frames that you have created within your storyboard To add new frames you need to have this Filmstrip in view The best place to do this is from the Composition Screen Filmstrip Red Bead Adding a New Blank Frame frame in your storyboard You can choose to insert the new frame in front of the existing New frame by clicking the bead button to the left of the frame or after it by clicking the bead button Frame to the right of the frame e To insert another frame in your storyboard click on the red bead button next to the existing Your new blank frame is inserted in the storyboard and is displayed in the Composition Window ready for you to compose your new scene Kar2ouche User Guide Page 14 Making a Copy of an Existing Frame or Frames There are two ways to copy an existing frame which you can then edit as you please l Select the frame or frames that you want to copy as above Keep the mouse button pressed and drag the cursor to the red bead button where you want to insert the copy and release the button A copy of the frame is inserted in the storyboard Any text in

Tips Clearing the Contents of a Frame Click on the thumbnail of the frame you want to clear in the Filmstrip to open it in the Composition Window Then click on the Clear button at the side of the Composition Window The cleared frame will remain open in the Composition Window NB This will not clear any sound previously added to the frame Frame Creating and Adding Your Own Backgrounds You can add your own backgrounds to your frames Kar2ouche will accept digital photos or graphics files as long as they have one of the following file extensions tga jpg or bmp Although Kar2ouche will scale the images to fit the Composition Window it is recommended that images are scaled to 640 x 480 before loading into Kar2ouche To add your own background open the Backgrounds Palette and click on the Open File button at the bottom A Windows dialogue box is displayed Browse to the file that you wish to use as your background and click Open The selected file is opened in the Palette Window Click on the image in the Palette Window to transfer it to the Composition Window Open Custom Background NB When you save a storyboard to which you have added your own background the background is not saved as part of the storyboard unless you select the option to save custom files when you save the storyboard as either a Kar2ouche file k2 or a QuickTime movie mov see Saving Storyboards If you do not select this option and the storyb

31. ave your storyboard You can save as a Kar2ouche file or a QuickTime movie both are described below Saving as a Kar2ouche K2 File If you choose to save your storyboard as a Kar2ouche file K2 the file saved will be very small since you are only storing the positional information of the graphics and not all the graphics files themselves Therefore these files can easily be emailed saved on to a central server or even stored onto a floppy disc Kar2ouche User Guide Page 21 To save your work first click on the K2 Save button to display the Save as dialogue box and use the browser to navigate to the folder in which you wish to save your work Type in a file name for your work Including custom files will automatically be selected These are your own backgrounds or sounds that you may have added into your storyboard If you do not wish to include these with your Kar2ouche file click in the check box next to contain custom files and click the Save button Having the box checked will increase the size of the file created To learn how to include your own backgrounds see Section 4 Advanced Features Creating and Adding Your Own Backgrounds The K2 Save button NB Kar2ouche supports long file names so you are not restricted to just eight characters All files will automatically be suffixed with k2 Saving as a QuickTime Movie Saving your storyboard as a QuickTime movie enables you to present your storyboar
32. back length of the frame will be displayed in seconds next to the cursor You can see the playback length of a frame in seconds at any time by left clicking on the right end of the appropriate thumbnail image in the Timeline Viewing the Timeline Use the blue and yellow horizontal scroll bar to view the entire selection of frames in the Timeline and Filmstrip if there are more than will fit on the screen Alternatively you can use the wheel on your computer mouse to scroll through the frames SSS The total time of the visible Timeline is displayed in the small Time Box at the ee ee timh 1490 extreme right of the Blue and Yellow Scroll bar it is set initially to 100 seconds However you can change this value by sliding the small blue and Scroll Bar and Time Box j yellow double headed arrow at the right hand end of the scroll bar This is useful if for example you need to zoom in on a very short sound clip or if you need to zoom out to display more thumbnails If the total duration of your storyboard is less than 100 seconds just Kar2ouche User Guide Page 31 click on the horizontal scroll bar to make your storyboard fill the space available Click on the Time Box to return to a 00 second display Alternatively select a frame on the Timeline hold down the Shift key PC users Apple key Mac users and scroll using the wheel of your mouse to zoom in on the selected frame Creating a Bespoke Publication De
33. d on any machine that has QuickTime installed It does not require Kar2ouche to be installed This provides excellent opportunities for students to play back work they have created away from the school network or to upload storyboards to a website However the QuickTime file saved will be considerably larger than a Kar2ouche file K2 since all the graphics and soundfiles are also incorporated within the file A copy of QuickTime is provided on the Kar2ouche CD ROM To save your work as a QuickTime movie select the QuickTime movie save button to display the Save as dialogue box and use the browser to navigate to the folder in which you wish to save your work Type in a file name for your storyboard Save as QuickTime Movie You have the option to check two boxes shown below the file name One enables you to select Save as half size video 320 x 240 which will save the QuickTime movie more quickly and as a slightly smaller file but will mean that the playback quality is not quite as good and is in a smaller area The other check box allows you to edit the QuickTime movie if you open it up within Kar2ouche again and will be automatically checked If you want to select or deselect either of these options click in the appropriate check boxes and click the Save button Files will be saved with a mov file extension Using Autosave Kar2ouche has an autosave facility that automatically saves the current storyboard at set intervals w
34. different Content Title to the one that is currently open The Content Title will automatically open along with the new storyboard Congratulations You have now finished The Basics section of the Kar2ouche user guide The next section will take you through the more advanced features of Kar2ouche and will lead you through creating more advanced storyboards animations and publications Kar2ouche User Guide Page 23 4 ADVANCED FEATURES This section guides you through Kar2ouche s more advanced features These range from adding special effects and creating your own publications to using the multi track audio system and sequencing frames Before you begin working through this section we strongly recommend that you have worked through the Basics section above Formatting and Editing Text The Text Manipulator Text within the Composition Text Audio and Presentation screens can be formatted and edited using the Text Manipulator To format text highlight the text you wish to format using the mouse and right click PC users Control click Mac users to open the Text Manipulator This enables you to change the font the font size the style bold italics underlined and the colour of the selected text All formatting changes made to the text will be shown within the Font Window at the top of the Text Manipulator When the Text Manipulator is closed these changes will be applied to the highlighted text 7 Scroll through
35. ds from within page of the Options screen You can switch off the option for background loading by clicking inside the circular Background Loading button so that the orange dot in the centre of the button disappears Re enable the facility by clicking on the circular button a second time so that the orange dot reappears If you do choose to add custom backgrounds it is good practice to keep all your custom backgrounds in one folder so that they can be located easily You can set this as the default folder that Kar2ouche opens automatically each time you add a custom background to a frame This saves having to browse the folder each time To set a new default folder click on the orange folder icon on the right of the Background Loading option to open the Browse for Folder Window Browse to the location of the folder in which your custom backgrounds are saved and click OK The selected folder is listed as the default folder within the Background Loading option Custom Text loading You can disable enable the facility to add custom text from other txt files To change the text loading settings open page of the Options screen You can switch off the option for text loading by clicking inside the circular Text Loading button so that the orange dot in the centre of the button disappears Within the text and audio screen the Text Loading button is greyed out to show that this facility is currently disabled Re enable the facility by clicking on the circ
36. e Go to text Text and Audio Alternatively you can scroll through the text using the scroll bar on the right hand side of the text box NB At any stage you can click on the top of the scroll bar to the right of the text box to reload the contents The Key Word Search You can search for a word contained within any part of the text by using the Key Word Search at the top of the text window Type in the word in the box and click on the Search icon to jump to where the word first appears in the text Alternatively press the Enter key on your keyboard Click the Search button again to find the next occurrence of the word and so on Key Word search Editing Text in the Caption Window If appropriate to your frame text can be taken from the Text Audio Window and moved into the Caption Window at the bottom left of the screen This is the same Caption Window that can be viewed from the Composition Screen Text can be moved to the Caption Window by highlighting it in the Text Audio Window and dragging it to the Caption Window You can edit and format text in the Caption Window in the same way as in a word processor Formatting text using the Text Manipulator is described in the next section Section 4 Advanced Features There are a number of ways to edit the text e To copy and paste text in the Caption Window select the section of text to be copied position the cursor on the selected text right click the mouse button PC users
37. e in the Presentation Window click on the stop or pause buttons Return to presentation window Stop To stop or pause playback while in the full screen mode you can access the Playback controls without going back in to the Presentation Window To do this right click PC users Control click Mac users anywhere in the screen and the controls will appear Pause Play Next Frame Previous Frame If you wish to play your storyboard continuously click on the Cycle button before playing your storyboard Kar2ouche User Guide Page 19 Creating Publications and Printing your Storyboard You can turn frames and storyboards into printed publications This feature can be used widely in the classroom for creating posters comic strips and newspaper articles The Printing Screen can be accessed from the yellow Print Tab at the bottom right of the screen From here you will see a variety of different templates to choose from to print out your storyboard These can involve simply deciding how many frames you wish to appear on each page and printing them Alternatively you can use a more open ended publishing option that allows you to choose a blank template and cut your frames into a variety of different shapes positioning them on the page in any size and shape you wish Printing Screen In this section you will see how to print your frame using a standard template See Section 4 Advanced Features for information on creating
38. e pointer of the bubble will move with it If you wish to reposition the pointer of a bubble or attach the bubble to a different character or prop position the cursor over its tip so that the cursor changes to an open hand then click and drag the pointer to a new position NB You are not limited to only adding text into bubbles you can add characters and props in the same way as before and scale them to fit using the Manipulator You can also change the owner of a bubble by linking it to a different character s layer see Section 4 Advanced Features Text Boxes You can also add text boxes to your frame to label the scene or an element in the frame To add a text box click on the text box button between the Speech and Thought bubble buttons A text box appears in the frame with a flashing cursor Simply type the text you want to appear in the box You can resize the text box and move it around in the frame in exactly the same way as for speech and thought bubbles Text Box Moving Text There are a number of ways in which you can copy paste and cut text from within the text areas of your frame e You can copy text from any bubble text box or from the Caption Window to another location by clicking and dragging highlighted text to the desired position e Select any text from within the Caption Window in the Composition Screen and drag it onto the Text Box icon This will create a new text box with the selected text in p
39. e tool tip e Length from start click on the Sound Bar to display the start time of the soundfile in seconds from the beginning of the storyboard e Duration click on the green dot to display the duration in seconds of the sound clip To add a second sound clip to a frame simply drag it from the Text Audio Window to a free track on the Timeline It is not possible to place a sound clip in a track if there is not enough space for the Sound Bar for example if a following frame has a sound clip in the same track However you can work round this by extending the playback time of the frame see Adjusting the Timing below To move a Sound Bar along the audio track or between audio tracks in the Timeline click and drag it to the new location Attaching Multiple Soundfiles to the Timeline You can attach multiple audio clips from the Text Audio Window to the Timeline as one connected series of soundfiles To do this first make sure you have the Timeline showing by clicking on the Show Controls icon in the Text Audio screen Select the text surrounding the audiofiles in the Text Audio Window then drag the top audio icon from the selection onto one of the available audio tracks on the Timeline above All the selected sound files will be copied to the Timeline in a string of Sound Bars These files will be grouped together and behave as one sound bar To deselect one of these soundfiles from the group press the Shift key and click on the Sound

46. imilarly the position of the Sound Bar on the Timeline relates to the time at which the sound clip starts playing This means you can change the timing of different sound clips simply by sliding them along the Timeline with the mouse For example e If you position one Sound Bar so that it starts after another finishes you will hear the first sound clip play back shortly followed by the next e f one Sound Bar lies vertically above another the two sound clips will play simultaneously e If a Sound Bar extends beyond the end of the frame thumbnail the associated sound clip will continue playing when the next frame is displayed If you are playing back sound for a single thumbnail the clip will be truncated Sound Bars that extend beyond the end of the last frame will be truncated when the frame finishes When you add a single sound clip to a frame by dragging it from the Text Audio Window as described in Section 3 The Basics Attaching an Audiofile to the Frame the playback time of the frame is automatically adjusted to the length of the sound clip However when you drag a sound clip onto the Timeline the frame playback time does not change Adjusting the Timing of Frames You may need a longer playback time for some frames than for others depending on the audio This can be done easily by adjusting the playback time for individual frames by dragging them horizontally by the right edge of their thumbnail images During this process the play

52. lay Special Effects buttons to remove the orange dot from the centre of the button thereby disabling the option Clicking on the button once more enables the option Kar2ouche User Guide Page 40 Audio Options Sound Loading and Recording If you want to disable Kar2ouche s sound recording facility open page of the Options Screen then click on the Sound Recording button so that the orange dot in the centre disappears Clicking once more on this button switches the sound recording facility back on If you choose to add custom sounds to your storyboard it is good practice to keep all your custom sounds in one folder so that they can be located easily You can set this as the default folder that Kar2ouche opens automatically each time you add a custom sound to a frame This saves you browsing to the folder each time To set a new default folder click on the orange folder icon on the right of the sound recording option to open the Browse for Folder Window Browse to the location of the folder in which your custom sounds are saved and click OK Edit Sounds You can switch off the option to add multi track audio to your storyboard by opening page 2 of the Options screen and clicking on the Edit Sounds button so that the orange dot in its centre disappears Whilst this option is disabled the Multi Track Audio button on the Text Audio screen is greyed out clicking on it does not display the Multi Track Audio Controls Play Sounds

65. ough the shapes using the green arrows When you have selected a shape you wish to use click on it to make it on the frame in the Print Formatting Box The shape cutter To resize the shape You can also resize the shape by dragging the edge of the shape to make it smaller or larger In order to keep the shape exactly the same and not become distorted whilst doing this i e to maintain aspect ratio hold down the Control key as you resize the shape To cut the shape from your frame Move the cursor to the top of the shape until you get the open hand symbol Click and drag the shape to move it around until it covers the section that you wish to move to your template Open hand symbol When you have the correct size and shape for your image you can move it into your template To do this click on the centre of the image Whilst holding down the mouse key you will see the closed hand symbol appear This symbol indicates that you are now able to move your image in to the blank template by clicking and dragging it to the desired location Formatting Text in the Text Input box Any text that has previously been written under your frame in the Caption Window will automatically appear beneath in the Text Input part of the Print Formatting Box At this stage the text cannot be changed but it can be added to your template as a text box To do this click on the centre of the text selection Whilst holding down the mouse key you will see the cl

75. ular button a second time so that the orange dot reappears Kar2ouche User Guide Page 39 As with adding custom backgrounds you can specify the folder that Kar2ouche automatically opens when you click on the Add Custom Text button by clicking on the orange folder icon on the right of the Text Loading option This opens the Browse for Folder Window browse to the location of the folder in which your custom texts are saved and click OK Title Loading Content Titles can be changed from within the Utilities screen If you wish to switch off the ability to do this open Page 2 of the Options Screen and click on the orange dot inside the circular button on the left of the Title Loading option Title Titles can now not be changed from within the one you are currently running To enable this function again click on the orange dot inside the circular button to switch it on again Locking Palette Elements You can lock or switch off characters props or backgrounds from any Content Title so that they do not appear within the palettes in the Composition Screen This will limit the user s selection to only those elements chosen for them to use at a particular time Open page 2 of the Options Screen and click on one of the three Palette Selection Buttons to open the palette in which you wish to lock an element or elements Elements in the selected palette are shown in the window on the right hand side of the screen Use the green up and down arrow
