AV Allied Telesyn International CentreCOM Multiport Fanout Models AT 280 AT 480 User Manual STATEMENTS U S Federal Communication Warning This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class A digital device pursuant to Part 15 of FCC Rules These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference when the equipment is operated in a commercial environment This equipment gen erates uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and if not installed and used in accordance with this installation manual may cause harmful interference to radio communications Operation of this equip ment in a residential area is likely to cause harmful interference in which case the user will be required to correct the interference at his own expense Note Modifications or changes not expressly approved of by the manufacturer can void your right to operate this equipment Danger There are no user serviceable parts inside the CentreCOM Multiport Fanout Due to the dan ger of exposed high voltages Do not operate or apply power to the micro repeaters when the cover is removed This unit should be opened only by a trained and qualified technician Canadian Department of Communications This digital apparatus does not exceed the Class A limits for radio noise emissions from digital apparatus set out in the radio interference regulations of the Canadian Department of Communicatio
2. 15 pin female AUI connection located at the top of the fanouts CentreCOM AT 260 AT 280 s72 DUAL POAT w IEEE 602 3 TRAMSCEIVER TORLASES MAU PREPARATION SQE Test or Heartbeat The AT 280 and AT 480 fanouts do not generate the Signal Quality Error SQE Heartbeat Test signal If the a DTE to which the AT 280 or AT 480 is connected requires the SQE Heartbeat function then place the SQE Test switch located on the external transceiver to the ON position Heartbeat and Repeaters Many times Ethernet repeaters do not want the Heartbeat function and in fact may cause excessive collisions if Heartbeat is enabled It is recommended that the Heartbeat function is on the external transceiver is disabled whenever an AT 280 and AT 480 is connected to a repeater unit INSTALLATION 1 Installation of the AT 280 and AT 480 is as simple as connecting the AUI drop cable from the Ethernet transceiver into the female connector located at the top of the AT 280 or AT 480 fanout 2 Attach additional AUI cables to the male AUI connectors and run them to the workstation or DTE Only one AUI connection is necessary to power the AT 280 and AT 480 fanouts 3 Power ON the DTE and check that the power indicator on the AT 280 and AT 480 is lit 4 Now check that packets can be transmitted and received from the DTE to a host located on the network The IEEE 802 3 specification states that the maximum length of an AUI cable must not exceed 50 meters
