8. cessary mechanical strain CAUTION Do not connect FIJI to the parallel port while the computer is switched on Such an installation can put FIJI in an undefined state result damage to FIJI or the parallel port Do not by mistake connect your FIJI to any other connector available on the PC PC s parallel ports always are Sub D 25 female connectors Step 3 Insert FIJI s keyboard plug into the computer s keyboard connector Use the MiniDIN DIN converter if necessary Step 4 Insert your keyboard s connector if any into FIJI s keyboard jack Use the DIN gt MiniDIN converter if necessary Step 5 Connect the transputer link Step 6 Switch on the system Now you are ready to install the software CAUTION Do not power up your system without having FIJI connected to the computer s keyboard connector This could result in damage to FIJI or your parallel port FIJI Manual Ingenieurbiiro Ingo Mohnen Version 3 0 page 7 M 4 2 Software Installation Procedures There are a few steps to be taken before you start using FIJI The following steps explain the software installation in case you use FIJI with INMOS Toolset It is assumed that your Toolset is installed correctly on your harddisk For a general and detailed description see the Toolset documentation The following files and subdirectories are to be found on your supplemental disk cbk cbkport asm cbk2link c cbkcport c cbkutil c cbkint h doc c
9. ere to find FIJI and which link speed is to be used Default settings are LPT1 20 Mbps If you use 2nd generation Toolset other configurations are selectable by using a command line option in the following way sl LPT_NO LINKSPEED ADAPTEROPTION DOS can handle a maximum of three parallel ports gt LPT_NO 1 2 3 FIJI Manual Ingenieurbiiro Ingo Mohnen Version 3 0 page 11 M Commonly used link speeds are 10 or 20 Mbps LINKSPEED 10 20 There is one option to unconditionally reset FIJI before use ADAPTEROPTION r R Example To start the toolset compiler with FIJI at LPT2 using a link speed of 10 Mbps without resetting FIJI execute the following command icc sl 2 10 If you use 3rd generation Toolset this configuration is part of the connection data base file fiji dat Refer to the comments given there To start the toolset server type iserver sl fiji Ensure the correct hard and software installation and start operation At least the Error LED and the Busy LED should be active for a short moment If nothing happens and FIJI refuses operation at all don t worry the next chapter helps you to find the bug Ingenieurbiiro Ingo Mohnen FIJI Manual page 12 Version 3 0 M Although FIJI usually works fine after installation there might be certain circumstances which prevent FIJI from operating properly The following checklist is provided to help you in overcoming some of the known prob

11. lems This guide however is not intended to be a repair manual If you encounter problems other than those described here please contact your dealer 6 Troubleshooting Error message Link hardware already in use All LEDs are inactive FIJI installed at the correct parallel port Power supply connected Modified iserver used What to do Execute the program testacc exe from your supplemental disk This program reports the parallel ports found in your system and looks for an installed FIJI If FIJI is located a simple test is performed and the LEDs light up as described within the program Otherwise FIJI or your parallel port might be damaged or incompatible with each other Try another parallel port if possible or call for technical support Those users familiar with hardware may check a parallel port according to chapter 8 Error message unable to write byte to the boot link At least the Busy LED flashes FIJI is connected correctly to your parallel port but communication to your transputer network failed Physical connection damaged or incompatible Refer to chapter 10 Link speeds match FIJI Manual Ingenieurbiiro Ingo Mohnen Version 3 0 page 13 M What to do Attach the test connector to your FIJI s link cable and execute the program testtran exe from your supplemental disk This program automatically locates your FIJI and performs an extended test including a link data path test The LED
