ZANUSSI REFRIGERATOR ZQS 6124 INSTRUCTION BOOKLET 2222 683 38 A It is most important that this instruction book should be retained with the appliance for future reference Should the appliance be sold or transferred to another owner or should you move house and leave the appliance always ensure that the book is left with the appliance in order that the new owner can get to know the functioning of the appliance and the relevant safety information This information has been provided in the interest of safety You MUST read it carefully before installing or using the appliance Installation This appliance is heavy Care should be taken when moving it It is dangerous to alter the specifications or attempt to modify this product in any way Care must be taken to ensure that the appliance does not stand on the electrical supply cable Important if the supply cable is damaged it must be replaced by a special cable available from your local Service Force Centre Any electrical work required to install this appliance should be carried out by a qualified electrician or competent person Parts which heat up should not be exposed The back of the appliance should be close to a solid wall but leaving the required distance for ventilation as stated in the installation instructions The appliance should be left for 2 hours after installation before it is turned on in order to allow the refrigerant to settle Child Safety Th2. extreme temperature e g not next to a boiler or radiator or in a very cold room e g an outhouse If these temperatures are exceeded i e warmer or colder then the appliance may not operate correctly 12 For building in and door reversal instructions please refer to the relevant instructions on the following pages Important It must be possible to disconnect the appliance from the mains power supply the plug must therefore be easily accessible after installation Door reversal To reverse the opening direction of the door proceed as shown in the figures Attention AN iter completion of the door reversing operation check that the door gasket adheres to the cabinet If the ambient temperature is cold i e in Winter the gasket may not fit perfectly to the cabinet In that case wait for the natural fitting of the gasket or accelerate this process by heating up the part involved with a normal hairdryer on a low setting 13 Inner door reversal Electrical Connection WARNING THIS APPLIANCE MUST BE EARTHED The manufacturer declines any liability should this safety measure not be observed If the plug that is fitted to your appliance is not suitable for your socket outlet it must be cut off and the appropriate plug fitted Remove the fuse from the cut off plug The cut off plug should then be disposed of to
3. good working order of the appliance An accumulation of dust will affect the performance of the appliance and cause excessive electricity consumption The structure of the appliance permits cleaning of the rear zone close to the wall using a vacuum cleaner 1 Remove the plinth 1 then the ventilation grid 2 2 Carefully pull the air deflector out 3 checking that there is no water left from the defrosting Changing the light bulb Should the interior light fail to work first switch off the appliance and disconnect from the electricity supply then replace the bulb as follows 1 Unscrew the light cover and then pull it outward by pressing as shown in the figure Unscrew the bulb and replace it with a new 15 watt bulb available from your nearest Service Force centre 2 Replace the light cover by sliding it into its original position and replacing the screw When the appliance is not in use When the appliance is not in use for long periods disconnect from the electricity supply empty all foods and clean the appliance leaving the door ajar to prevent unpleasant smells Something not Working Before contacting your local Service Force Centre check the following points IMPORTANT If you call out an engineer to a fault listed below or to repair a fault caused by incorrect use or installation a charge will be made even if the appliance is under guarantee No power to appliance The light does not c
4. the bottle rack on the door The walls of the refrigerator are equipped with runners so that shelves can be positioned as desired For better use of space the front half shelves can lie over the rear ones see fig The door shelves To permit storage of food packages of various sizes the half tray can be adjusted in horizontal To do this proceed as figure For more thorough cleaning the top door shelf and the bottle shelf can be removed by pulling them in the director of the arrows then refitting them in position The amp xx star compartment This compartment is suitable for freezing fresh food for the storage of commercially frozen food and for ice cube making Freezing fresh food To freeze fresh foods it is not necessary to change the setting of the thermostat knob However for a quicker freezing operation turn the thermostat knob to the coldest setting but remember that in this condition the refrigerator compartment temperature might drop below 0 C If this occurs reset thermostat knob to a warmer setting Only freeze top quality fresh and thoroughly cleaned foodstuffs Do not allow fresh food to touch food which is already frozen During the freezing process ensure that the freezer compartment door remains closed Frozen food storage Storing ready frozen foods is quite straightforward The packs can be placed beside each other or on top of each other You are strongly advised to
5. 24 hours for the temperature to stablise before making further changes Important AN curing prolonged periods of abnormally hot weather if the thermostat is set on too high a number the cooling system may operate continuously and the fridge cooling plate may not defrost Turning the knob to a lower number will cause the automatic defrosting to resume If you wish to return to a lower temperature turn the thermostat knob to a higher number however you should turn the setting lower occasionally to allow automatic defrosting Fresh food refrigeration To obtain the best performance do not store warm food or evaporating liquids in the refrigerator do cover or wrap the food particularly if it has a strong flavour Do not cover the shelves with any protective material such as paper cardboard or plastic which could obstruct the air circulation To help you use your refrigerator correctly here are some more useful hints Raw meat beef pork lamb amp chicken or poultry wrap in polythene bags and place on top of the salad bin 4 Meat can only be stored safely in this way for one or two days at the most Fruit amp vegetables these should be thoroughly cleaned and placed in the bottom salad bin Butter amp cheese these should be placed in special airtight containers or wrapped in aluminium foil or polythene bags to exclude as much air as possible Milk bottles these should have a cap and should be stored in

8. e without washing them thoroughly in between Defrosting The refrigerator automatically defrosts every time the compressor stops The water is discharged via the pipe into a tray located below the appliance where it evaporates Important Ar avoid defrost water overflowing and dripping onto the food in the fridge periodically clean the water discharge hole F situated under the salad drawers Use the special cleaner provided P which you will find already inserted into the discharge hole The freezer compartment however will become progressively covered with frost This should be removed with the special plastic scraper provided whenever the thickness of the frost exceeds 4 mm During this operation it is not necessary to switch off the power supply or to remove the foodstuffs Never use sharp metal tools to scrape off frost from the evaporator as you could damage it Do not use a mechanical device or any artificial means to speed up the thawing process other than those recommended by the manufacturer However when the ice becomes very thick on the inner liner complete defrosting should be carried out as follows 1 pull out the plug from the wall socket or turn the thermostat knob to the O setting 2 remove any stored food wrap it in several layers of newspaper and put it in a cool place 3 leave the door open place a basin on the top shelf of the refrigerator compartment under the drain hole remov
