1. 3 Change the resistance of the pedals as desired As you pedal change the resis tance of the pedals by pressing the Increase and Decrease buttons There are ten resis tance levels Note After the buttons are pressed it will take a moment for the pedals to reach the selected resistance level RESIST 11 DI Monitor your progress with the display The upper half of the display will show the elapsed time the distance total revolutions you have pedaled and the resistance level of the pedals The display will change from one mode to the next every few seconds Note When a program is selected except for pulse pro gram 2 the display will show the time remaining in the program instead of the elapsed time The lower half of the display will show your pedal ing speed revolu tions per minute RPM and the approximate num ber of calories you have burned The display will change from one mode to the other every few seconds The lower half of the display will also show your heart rate when you use the handgrip pulse sensor see step 5 Measure your heart rate if desired If there are sheets of clear plastic on the metal contacts on the handgrip pulse sensor remove the plas tic Next hold the handgrip pulse sensor with your palms resting on the contacts When your pulse is detected the heart shaped indicator in the lower half of the display will flash each time your heart beats

3. or the elapsed time in pulse program 2 If you stop pedaling for a few seconds the program will pause and the time will flash in the display To restart the program simply resume pedaling Monitor your progress with the display See step 4 on page 12 Turn on the fan if desired See step 6 on page 12 When you are finished exercising the console will automatically turn off See step 7 on page 12 HOW TO USE A PRESET PROGRAM Preset programs 3 4 5 and 6 automatically change the resistance of the pedals and prompt you to increase or decrease your pedaling pace as they guide you through effective workouts The profiles printed on the left side of the display show how the resistance level and the target pace will change during the preset programs Follow the steps below to use a preset program 1 Turn on the console See step 1 on page 11 A Select a preset program To select preset program 3 4 5 or 6 press the Program button repeatedly until the number 3 4 5 or 6 appears along the left side of the display When a preset program is select ed the display will show how long the program will last are IU rer Ls CALOR E Begin pedaling to start the program Each preset program consists of several time periods of different lengths One resistance level and one target pace are programmed for each period At the end of each period of the program the resistance level will flash i
4. zone For maximum fat burning exercise with your heart rate near the middle number in your training zone Aerobic Exercise If your goal is to strengthen your cardiovascular system you must perform aerobic exercise which is activity that requires large amounts of oxygen for prolonged periods of time For aerobic exercise adjust the intensity of your exercise until your heart rate is near the highest number in your training zone WORKOUT GUIDELINES Warming up Start with 5 to 10 minutes of stretching and light exercise A warm up increases your body temperature heart rate and circulation in preparation for exercise Training Zone Exercise Exercise for 20 to 30 min utes with your heart rate in your training zone During the first few weeks of your exercise program do not keep your heart rate in your training zone for longer than 20 minutes Breathe regularly and deeply as you exercise never hold your breath Cooling down Finish with 5 to 10 minutes of stretching Stretching increases the flexibility of your muscles and helps to prevent post exercise problems EXERCISE FREQUENCY To maintain or improve your condition complete three workouts each week with at least one day of rest between workouts After a few months of regular exer cise you may complete up to five workouts each week if desired Remember the key to success is to make exercise a regular and enjoyable part of your everyday life PART LIST

6. and your heart rate will be shown 12 For the most accurate heart rate reading continue to hold the handgrip pulse sensor for about 30 seconds Note If you continue to hold the hand grip pulse sensor the display will show your heart rate for about 30 seconds The display will then show your heart rate along with the other modes If your heart rate is not shown make sure that your hands are positioned as described Avoid moving your hands excessively or squeezing the metal contacts too tightly For optimal performance periodically clean the metal contacts using a soft cloth never use alcohol abrasives or chemi cals Turn on the fan if desired To turn on the fan at low speed press the fan button To turn on the fan at high speed press the fan button a second time To turn off the fan press the fan button a third time Note If the fan is turned on but the pedals are not moved for thir ty seconds the fan will automatically turn off to conserve the batteries Rotate the thumb tab on the right side of the fan to adjust the angle of the fan When you are finished exercising the console will automatically turn off If the pedals are not moved for a few seconds the time will begin to flash and the console will pause If the pedals are not moved for a few minutes the console will turn off and the display will be reset HOW TO USE A PULSE PROGRAM Pulse program 1 is designed to keep your heart rate withi
7. ch of a button As you pedal the console will provide contin uous exercise feedback You can even measure your heart rate using the built in handgrip pulse sensor In addition the console features two pulse programs that change the resistance of the pedals and help you to maintain a steady pedaling pace to keep your heart rate near a target heart rate setting while you exer cise The console also offers four preset programs Each program automatically changes the resistance of the pedals and prompts you to increase or decrease your pedaling pace as it guides you through an effective workout To use the manual mode of the console see the instructions at the right To use a pulse program see page 13 To use a preset program see page 14 Before using the console make sure that batteries are installed see assembly step 5 on page 7 If there is a sheet of clear plastic on the display remove the plastic Display Decrease Button HOW TO USE THE MANUAL MODE 1 Turn on the console To turn on the console press the Increase button or begin pedaling The pace guide will light for a moment the console will then be ready for use A Select the manual mode When the power is turned on the manual mode will be selected If you have selected a program reselect the manual mode by pressing the Program button repeatedly until no program indi cators see the drawing above appear along the left side of the display

12. gularly Replace any worn parts immediately To clean the elliptical exerciser use a damp cloth and a small amount of mild soap Important To avoid damage to the console keep liquids away from the console and keep the console out of direct sunlight BATTERY REPLACEMENT If the console displays become dim the batteries should be replaced most console problems are the result of low batteries See assembly step 5 on page 7 for replacement instructions HANDGRIP PULSE SENSOR TROUBLESHOOTING Avoid moving your hands while using the handgrip pulse sensor Excessive movement may interfere with heart rate readings Do not hold the metal contacts too tightly doing so may interfere with heart rate readings For the most accurate heart rate reading hold the metal contacts for about 30 seconds For optimal performance of the handgrip pulse sen sor keep the metal contacts clean The contacts can be cleaned with a soft cloth never use alcohol abrasives or chemicals 15 EXERCISE GUIDELINES A WARNING Before beginning this or any exercise program consult your physician This is especially important for persons over the age of 35 or persons with pre existing health problems The pulse sensor is not a medical device Various factors may affect the accuracy of heart rate readings The pulse sensor is intended only as an exercise aid in determin ing heart rate trends in general These guidelines will help you to
13. hat the Nylon Locknuts are inside of the hexagonal holes Do not tighten the Button Bolts yet Assemble the Right Handlebar not shown and the other Handlebar Leg not shown in the same way 11 Apply a generous amount of the included grease to the Pivot Axle 81 and to the two M8 Washers 53 Next insert the Pivot Axle into the Upright 2 and center it Reapply grease to both ends of the Pivot Axle Slide a Handlebar Spacer 25 onto the short tube on the Left Handlebar 9 and rotate the Handlebar Spacer so the small arrow is pointing toward the floor Next slide the Left Handlebar onto the left end of the Pivot Axle 81 Finger tighten an M8 x 25mm Patch Screw 22 with an Na M8 Washer 53 and a Wave Washer 91 into the end of 7 A Grease the Pivot Axle Then press the small tabs on a Handlebar Cap 23 into the Handlebar Spacer Assemble the Right Handlebar 10 in the same way Make sure that both Wave Washers 91 are on the Pivot Axle 81 and then tighten both M8 x 25mm Patch Screws 22 at the same time 12 Apply a small amount of grease to an M10 x 59mm Bolt Set 27 and to the surfaces of the Leg Bushings 28 in the left Handlebar Leg 79 Attach the left Handlebar Leg to the Left Pedal Arm 14 with the Bolt Set Do not overtighten the Bolt Set the left Handlebar Leg must be able to pivot freely Attach the right Handlebar Leg 79 to the Right Pedal Arm 75 in the same way See step 3 Tigh
14. he Rear Stabilizer to the Frame with two M10 x 75mm Carriage Bolts 34 and two M10 Nylon Locknuts 29 See the inset drawing Remove the two M10 x 2 45mm Button Bolts 83 and the packing tubes from Packing Tube the front of the Frame 1 Remove the rubber band from the Lower Wire Harness 87 Discard the rubber N 87 Z band and the packing tubes lt Q dr 9 e aa Attach a Wheel 32 to the Front Stabilizer 3 with Packing fia ss one of the M10 x 45mm Button Bolts 33 you just removed and an M10 Nylon Locknut 29 Do not overtighten the Nylon Locknut the Wheel should turn freely Attach the other Wheel 32 to the Front Stabilizer 3 in the same way Slide an M10 Split Washer 94 onto each of the two M10 x 83mm Button Screws 63 Insert the Button Screws into the Front Stabilizer 3 Next slide the Mast 15 onto the Button Screws and against the Front Stabilizer Make sure that the Mast is oriented as shown Make sure that the wire harnesses do not get pinched and damaged during this ste While another person holds the Mast 15 and the 9 p Front Stabilizer 3 near the Frame 1 connect the Extension Wire Harness 95 to the Lower Wire Harness 87 Insert the connectors on the Wire Harnesses into the Mast While the other person lifts the front of the Frame 1 carefully pull the upper end of the Extension Wire Harness 95 to remove any slack While holding the upper end of the Extension Wire Ha

16. n a set range during your workout Pulse program 2 is designed to keep your heart rate near a target heart rate setting that you select Follow the steps below to use a pulse program 1 Turn on the console See step 1 on page 11 2 Select a pulse program To select pulse program 1 or 2 press the Program button repeatedly until the number 1 or 2 appears along the left side of the display E Enter a target heart rate If pulse program 1 is selected the maximum target heart rate setting for the program will flash in the display see the drawing above Press the Increase and Decrease buttons to change the setting if desired see EXERCISE INTENSITY on page 16 If the maximum target heart rate setting is increased or decreased the intensity level of the entire program will increase or decrease If pulse program 2 is selected the target heart rate setting for the entire program will flash in the display Press the Increase and Decrease buttons to change the setting if desired see EXERCISE INTENSITY on page 16 El Hold the handgrip pulse sensor It is not necessary to hold the handgrip pulse sen sor continuously during a pulse program howev er you must hold the handgrip pulse sensor fre quently Each time you hold the handgrip pulse sensor keep your hands on the metal con tacts for at least 30 seconds Note When you are not holding the handgrip pulse sensor the let ters PLS will appear in the di

19. plan your exercise program For detailed exercise information obtain a reputable book or consult your physician Remember proper nutrition and adequate rest are essential for successful results EXERCISE INTENSITY Whether your goal is to burn fat or to strengthen your cardiovascular system exercising at the proper inten sity is the key to achieving results You can use your heart rate as a guide to find the proper intensity level The chart below shows recommended heart rates for fat burning and aerobic exercise 165 155 145 145 138 130 125 120 115 130 125 115 Y Y 118 110 103 105 95 90 Y 20 30 40 60 70 80 To find the proper intensity level find your age at the bottom of the chart ages are rounded off to the near est ten years The three numbers listed above your age define your training zone The lowest number is the heart rate for fat burning the middle number is the heart rate for maximum fat burning and the highest number is the heart rate for aerobic exercise 16 Burning Fat To burn fat effectively you must exer cise at a low intensity level for a sustained period of time During the first few minutes of exercise your body uses carbohydrate calories for energy Only after the first few minutes of exercise does your body begin to use stored fat calories for energy If your goal is to burn fat adjust the intensity of your exercise until your heart rate is near the lowest number in your training
20. rness attach the Mast 15 and the Front Stabilizer 3 to the Frame with the two M10 x 83mm Button Screws 63 Do not tighten the Button Screws yet Make sure that the Wire Harnesses 87 95 do not get pinched and damaged during this step 4 While another person holds the Upright 2 in the posi tion shown connect the Upper Wire Harness 86 to the Extension Wire Harness 95 Make sure the wire harnesses do not get pinched and damaged during this step Next insert the Upright 2 into the Mast 15 make sure that the Upright is oriented as shown Attach the Upright with two M8 x 72mm Button Bolts 67 two M8 Split Washers 83 and two M8 Nylon Locknuts 46 Make sure that the Wire Harnesses 86 95 do not get pinched and damaged during this step Do not tighten the Button Bolts yet Attach the Water Bottle Holder 72 to the Upright 2 with two M4 x 22mm Screws 76 Hexagonal Holes 5 The Console 5 requires four D batteries not includ ed alkaline batteries are recommended Press the tab on the battery door and remove the battery door Insert four batteries into the Console as shown Make sure that the batteries are oriented as shown by the markings on the battery door Reattach the bat tery door 6 While another person holds the Console 5 near the Upright 2 connect the wire harness on the Console to the Upper Wire Harness 86 Insert the excess wire harness down into the Upright Next attach
21. splay instead of your heart rate 13 Begin pedaling to start the program Pulse program 1 is 30 minutes long and is divid ed into several time periods of different lengths One target heart rate is programmed for each period Pulse program 2 is sixty minutes long you may choose to use only part of the pro gram The same target heart rate is programmed for the entire program During the program the console will regularly compare your heart rate to the target heart rate setting If your heart rate is too far below or above the target heart rate setting the resistance of the pedals will automatically increase or decrease to bring your heart rate closer to the target heart rate setting Note If the resistance level is too high or too low you can override it by pressing the Increase and Decrease buttons However when the console compares your heart rate to the tar get heart rate setting the resistance may auto matically change After the first minute of the program the pace guide will help you to maintain a steady pedaling pace When one of the two lower indicators lights increase your pace when one of the two upper indicators lights decrease your pace When the center indicator lights maintain your current pace Important The pace guide is intended only to provide a goal Make sure to pedal at a pace that is comfortable for you The display will show the time remaining in pulse program 1
