Epson COLOR 850 WW J Operating NUM h The EPSON Status Monitor 2 window displays 4 22 Using the Printer Software for Windows Printer icon The color of the printer icon indicates the current printer status Green Ready Yellow Some kind of maintenance isnecessary Red Emorhasoccurred Dimmed Communication problem between Status Monitor 2 and printer Printer Name 4 The name of the EPSON printer connected directly to your computer appears in this column Note You can add or delete printers from the list To save computer memory delete printers you do not need to monitor This does not remove the printer driver from your computer Choose Add Printeror Delete Printer on the Settings menu Q You can rearrange the order of the printers in the list Click the Printer Name Status or Job Count title bar to change the order of the printers Status Brief messages appear here regarding the current status of the printer Windows Using the Printer Software for Windows 4 23 Job Count Shows the number of jobs waiting to print Note To get more information choose Job Status on the Printer menu or click the Job Status amp button on the tool bar To get more detailed information on the status of a particular printer open the Printer Status window by double clicking the printer name Note You can control the contents of the Status Monitor 2 window us

Replacing an Ink Cartridge e444 ter 8 2 Printing with an empty color ink cartridge 8 8 Cleaning th Primer ce AS 8 9 Transporting the Printer ia ea ae be oe ds 8 10 Maintenance Maintenance and Transportation 8 1 Replacing an Ink Cartridge The printer s indicator lights will inform you when it is time to obtain a replacement ink cartridge and when it is time to replace an empty cartridge Note If you need to replace an ink cartridge when the 6 black or amp color ink out light is off see Ink Cartridge Problems on page 9 37 EPSON recommends the use of genuine EPSON ink cartridges Other products not manufactured by EPSON may cause damage to your printer not covered by EPSON s warranties When the 6 ink out light is Q flashing obtain a replacement black ink cartridge S020108 a on replace the empty black ink cartridge When the amp ink out light is flashing obtain a replacement color ink cartridge S020089 a on replace the empty color ink cartridge Note When the color ink cartridge is empty the printer can continue to work using only black ink To print with black ink only see Printing with an empty color ink cartridge on page 8 8 Caution O Once you open the ink cartridge clamp the ink cartridge becomes unusable and cannot be reinstalled even if ink remains O Leave the old cartridge installed in the printer until you are ready to replace it wit
7. 5 20 Using the Printer Software for Macintosh Watermark Selecting this function enables you to print a watermark in the background of your printed documents or images Select the watermark you want to print from the Watermark list then select its position size color and intensity The position and size of the watermark can be changed by dragging it with your mouse in the preview window on the left You can also add or delete PICT files as custom watermarks to the Watermark list Follow the steps below to add custom wartermarks 1 Click the Add Delete button to the right of the Watermark list The following dialog box appears EPSON SC 850 5 07E Save Watermark List Name A Delete 2 Click Add Select the image file you want to add and click Open Picture 1 Eject Picture 2 es Picture4 Bl Picture 5 Picture 6 Macintosh Picture 7 Using the Printer Software for Macintosh 5 21 3 Enter a name for the watermark and click Save EPSON C 850 5 07E Watermark List Name Your custom watermark will appear in the Watermark list Print Layout You can print two or four pages on a sheet of paper by selecting 2 Pagesor 4 Pagesin the Print Layout box You can also choose to print a frame around each page on the sheet of paper Print Order You can determine the order in which you print multiple copies of your document Collated prin

Q Do not move the print heads by hand otherwise you may damage the printer Q Under normal circumstances ink will not come out of the cartridges If ink does get on your skin wash it off with soap and water If it gets in your eyes flush them immediately with water Q Keep ink cartridges out of the reach of children 2 Safety Instructions Q Do not dismantle the ink cartridges or try to refill them This could damage the print heads O Once you install an ink cartridge do not open the clamp or remove the cartridge except to replace it The cartridge may become unusable otherwise QU Install the ink cartridge immediately after you remove it from its package Leaving the cartridge unpacked for a long time before use may reduce print quality Q Donot use an ink cartridge beyond the date printed on the cartridge carton For best results use up the ink cartridges within six months of installing them Q Do not shake an ink cartridge this can cause leakage Q Always turn the printer off using the O power button When this button is pressed the power light flashes briefly Do not unplug the printer or turn off the power to the outlet until the O power light is off O Before transporting the printer make sure the print heads are in the home far right position and the ink cartridges are in place ENERGY STAR Compliance x As an ENERGY STAR Partner EPSON has Groggy determined that this product meets

19. o ooo o A 13 Using the Printer with DOS A 1 Installing the Printer Software for DOS Programs Most DOS software programs include software for EPSON ESC P 2 printers They require you to select the printer name from a list to install the printer software You need to select the correct printer to take advantage of your printer s advanced built in scalable fonts and graphics handling If your printer is not included in the list contact your software manufacturer to obtain updated software If the manufacturer does not have an updatedprinter driver for your printer pick the first printer available in the list below When printing black only LQ 870 1170 LQ 570 1070 SQ 870 1070 LQ 850 LQ 500 When printing black and color EPSON Stylus PRO EPSON Stylus COLOR 500 EPSON Stylus COLOR II LQ 860 LQ 2550 Note The drivers for the printers listed above do not provide all EPSON STYLUS COLOR 850 features such as 720 dpi printing 1440 dpi printing and MicroWeave DOS software varies greatly See the printing section of your software manual for information on accessing the printer driver settings A 2 Using the Printer with DOS Changing the Print Settings You can change many print settings such as print direction and loading position Because these settings take effect each time you turn on the printer they are also called default settings The factory default settings are designed to meet
