3. bracket is mounted correctly before installing the alarm on the mounting bracket 1 To activate the alarm install the alarm on the mounting bracket Figure 3C and rotate the alarm clockwise as indicated on the alarm cover until the alarm snaps into place The alarm is now activated WARNING Alarm will not operate if it is not fixed on mounting plate 1 0308 7206 02 130414 e V1 qxd 2015 5 22 2 17 PM Installation 2 After installation activation test your alarm by depressing and holding down the Test button for a minimum of 1 second or until the alarm sounds This should sound the alarm The alarm will sound at a low level to avoid discomfort If the Test button is pressed for greater than 5 seconds the alarm will sound at the full 85 decibels and may cause some discomfort TAMPER RESIST FEATURE Smoke Alarm Tamper Resist Feature To make the smoke alarm tamper resistant a tamper resist feature has been provided To activate this feature you must break out the tamper resist posts on the mounting plate Figure 4A Use a small screwdriver Using this feature will deter children and others from removing the alarm from the mounting plate With the blocks removed the tamper resist feature will be activated when the alarm is installed on the mounting plate The tamper resist tab will have to be released in order to remove alarm from mounting plate Using a tool small screwdriver push the

ONCE A WEEK DURING USE 0308 7206 02 130414 e V1 qxd 2015 5 22 2 17 PM Installation To minimise nuisance alarms avoid these locations Do not install within 0 9m of the following The door to a kitchen or a bathroom that contains a tub or shower forced air supply ducts used for heating or cooling ceiling or whole house ventilating fans or other high air flow areas Areas where curtains or other objects will block the sensor Smoke must be able to reach the sensor to accurately detect conditions Install at least 30cm away from fluorescent lights Keep out of insect infested areas Avoid excessively dusty dirty or greasy areas Do not install in areas where the temperature is colder than 5 C or hotter than 45 C Do not install in areas where the relative humidity RH is greater than 85 f a kitchen alarm is desired it should have an alarm silencer feature or be a photoelectric type Do not place in the garage Avoid dead air spaces such as the peak of an A frame ceiling Dead Air at the top may prevent smoke from reaching the alarm in time to provide early warning Refer to Figure 2A and 2B N B Smoke alarms are not to be used with detector guards unless the combination alarm and guard has been evaluated and found suitable for that purpose CAUTION THIS UNIT IS SEALED INCLUDING THE BATTERY THE COVER IS NOT REMOVABLE 1 d When mounting Alignment a h
8. allway Mounting racket the A line should be parallel with the wall mounting the A line should be horizontal FIGURE 3A FIGURE 3B ae 17 PM 0308 7206 02 130414 e V1 qxd 2015 5 22 2 Installation 1 To ensure aesthetic alignment of the alarm with the hallway or wall the A line on the SS LL mounting bracket should o be parallel with the hallway when ceiling mounting or horizontal when wall mounting Install FIGURE 3C 2 After selecting the proper smoke alarm location as described in on Page 2 attach the mounting bracket to the ceiling as shown in Figure 2A For wall mounting see Figure 3A Place the mounting plate on the wall be sure the A line is horizontal parallel to the floor Use the Screws and cavity fixings provided to secure the mounting bracket use 3 16 drill bit for cavity fixings 3 This alarm has a battery permanently sealed inside the alarm No battery installation or maintenance is necessary Note Extensive cycling between high and low temperatures will significantly reduce battery life Long term exposure to high temperatures will degrade the battery over time Chubb recommends locating this alarm in a controlled temperature environment 20 30 C for optimum life ACTIVATING THE ALARM Once activated the battery will supply power to the alarm for the life of the alarm 10 years Ensure that the mounting
9. by rotating the alarm in the direction indicated by the arrows on the cover of the alarm NOTE TAMPER RESIST FEATURE in the INSTALLATION section explains how to remove alarm from base 1 11 0308 7206 02 130414 e V1 qxd 2015 5 22 2 17 PM Maintenance CLEANING YOUR ALARM YOUR ALARM SHOULD BE VACUUMED ONCE A MONTH If the tamper resist feature has been activated you will need to follow the instructions on Page 8 to remove your alarm for maintenance To clean your alarm remove it from the mounting bracket as outlined in the beginning of this section You can clean the interior of your alarm sensing chamber by using compressed air or a vacuum cleaner hose and blowing or vacuuming through the openings around the perimeter of the alarm The outside of the alarm can be wiped with a damp cloth After cleaning re install your alarm and test your alarm by using the test button If cleaning does not restore the alarm to normal operation the alarm should be replaced 12 0308 7206 02 130414 i V1 qxd 2015 5 22 2 17 PM Fire Safety WARNING Please read carefully and thoroughly Australian Standard AS 1670 6 states the purpose of installing smoke alarms is to provide early waming ofa potentially life threatening condition and provide the maximum possible exit time Smoke alarms have sensing limitations lonisation sensing alarms may detect invisible Tire particles associated with fast flaming fires soone
10. nsed the unit sounds a loud 85db pulsating alarm until the air is cleared If there is any question as to the cause of the alarm it should be assumed that the alarm is due to an actual fire and the dwelling should be evacuated immediately HUSH CONTROL NOTE Hush control and Test button are a single button The HUSH feature has the capability of temporarily desensitising the alarm circuit for approximately 10 minutes This feature is to be used only when a known alarm condition such as smoke from cooking activates the alarm The smoke alarm is desensitised by pushing the HUSH button on the smoke alarm cover The alarm will silence immediately and the LED will flash every 10 seconds to signal that the alarm is in Hush mode The smoke alarm will automatically reset after approximately 10 minutes The HUSH feature can be used repeatedly until the air has been cleared of the condition causing the alarm Pushing the Test Reset button on the alarm will end the temporarily desensitised period 1 0308 7206 02 130414 e V1 qxd 2015 5 22 2 17 PM Operation NOTE DENSE SMOKE WILL OVERRIDE THE HUSH CONTROL FEATURE CAUTION BEFORE USING THE ALARM HUSH FEATURE IDENTIFY THE SOURCE OF THE SMOKE AND BE CERTAIN A SAFE CONDITION EXISTS FLASHING LED LIGHT This smoke alarm is equipped with a flashing red indicator light with the following modes of operation The LED will flash every every 60 70 seconds in the s

14. r than photoelectric alarms Photoelectric sensing alarms may detect visible fire particles associated with slow smouldering fires sooner han ionisation alarms Home fires develop in different ways and are often unpredictable For maximum protection both ionisation and photoelectric alarms should be installed A battery powered alarm must have a battery of the specified type in good condition and installed properly AC powered alarms without battery backup will not operate if the AC power has been Cut off such as by an electrical fire or an open fuse Smoke alarms must be tested regularly to make sure the bateries and the alarm circuits are in good operating condition Smoke alarms cannot provide an alarm if smoke does not reach the alarm Therefore smoke alarms may not sense fires starting in chimneys walls on roofs on the other side of a closed door or on a different floor If the alarm is located outside the bedroom or on a different floor it may not wake up a sound sleeper The use of alcohol or drugs may also impair one s ability to hear the smoke alarm For maximum protection a smoke alarm should be installed in each sleeping area on every level of a home Although smoke alarms can help save lives by providing an early warning of a fire they are not a substitute for an insurance policy Home owners landlords and tenants should have adequate insurance to protect their lives and property There are
15. seful in areas prone to nuisance alarms For more information refer to OPERATION AND TESTING section If the alarm does sound check for fires first If a fire is discovered get out and call the fire service If no fire is present check to see if one of the reasons listed on the Installation section To minimise nuisance alarms avoid these locations may have caused the alarm MAINTENANCE BATTERY ACTIVATION AND DEACTIVATION NOTE One Lithium lon battery permanently sealed inside the alarm powers this unit no battery installation or replacement is necessary for the life of the alarm WARNING DO NOT ATTEMPT TO OPEN THE ALARM FOR ANY REASON To activate the alarm attach the alarm to the mounting bracket by rotating in the direction of the arrows on the cover see ACTIVATING THE ALARM in the INSTALLATION section This alarm has a low battery monitor circuit which will cause the alarm to chirp every 60 seconds with a red LED flash every 30 seconds for a minimum of 30 days at the end of the life of the alarm to indicate that the alarm needs replacement Prior to the low battery chirp the LED will flash twice every 30 seconds for a period of 30 days The purpose of this is to alert the user that the alarm will be entering low battery and allows the alarm to be changed at a time of convenience to the user i e chirping can be avoided during unsociable hours To deactivate the alarm remove the alarm from the mounting bracket
